It's packaged with Beyond the Sword as well, and well worth playing. You should try it sometime.
First of all, it's a game, not a historical re-enactment, and many "unrealistic" choices are made for the sake of game balance. Second, the Industrialism tech does not cause pollution; the factories and power plants enabled by Assembly Line and Plastics will, and if you think about it, that makes sense. (Though I think Hydro Plants' pollution levels should be reduced or eliminated.)Just something I've always wondered: why does industrializing have the net effect of decreasing population (due to sickness)? I've always learned that industrialism boosted agricultural production and provided food for more people. If anything, industrialism should be giving +1 food to every farm and not biology.

And when I talk about industrialism, I was referring to the process of "industrializing" by building factories and power plants, not the tech. Sorry about the confusion.
Talk to the James Bay Cree about that. The dams Quebec built in the 70's flooded traditional territory and led to serious mercury poisoning.(Though I think Hydro Plants' pollution levels should be reduced or eliminated.)
I didn't find an explanation of the UN diplo victory vote count mechanics.
Is it world population percentage-number of votes related?
and, if it is, what kind of a world population do you need for victory (50%, 66%...)?
Thanks
