Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Unsure if you have tried this already, but there is an edit button in those screens. There you can change the width of columns or re-arrange them, or even make entirely new screens. I'm not sure if they are saved across games, but think they should be within the save.
Yes, they're written to the mod config files so they do get saved across games.

I'm not sure precisely what you want to do. The two things that sound to me like what you are asking are:

1. remove a unit from a selected group of units, so the rest remain selected but the unit in question is deselected
Answer: shift click the unit (this causes it to be the only one selected), then click the icon to separate grouped units (this will separate only the selected unit from the group), finally click any of the other units in the group to select the group again.

2. Have a unit do nothing that turn: Answer - press the space bar or click the skip icon

If you are asking something else, please add some detail to clarify your question.

No it has nothing to do with the groups of units I just wanted to ask if there's a way to de-select them (or just one). I know how to make a group and the question is just how to de-select them at will. (To be precise - to make Your green "end turn" button go red without giving an unit (or a group) an order - just deselect - sorry I do not want to be rude - I really just don't know ... maybe there is no way to do that :O. It's a stupid detail but after playing so much time it has started to bug me so I ask ;)

Space key or click "skip turn" ???

I agree with Seraiel ^^. That was my answer #2. I do that all the time when I want to remember where I put a specific unit but don't plan to do use it immediately.

Sorry to be a bother ;) I just wondered. It's more umm.. how the engine works than anything. ;) Usually when I accidently select an unit in the city (or directly 1 tile south of the city :O - instead of clicking at a city bar - which is the case when I guard my sea resources for example) i give it the same command (sentry or wait or fortify). It's just an detail. I guess there's no way around it.

Hello
In my latest game I was getting notifications that "one of my passenger planes have crashed in neighboring civ lands" but this event had no special choices associated with it - nothing has happened as result. Then it happened again few turns later and then again.
Whats that all about?

It's because the other Civ gets to choose how They will respond. Thay can let You unrestricted access (+3 diplo) , They can grant You access (+1 diplo) or thay can just ignore it (no change i think) hmm.. I think - You will get this event soon enough Yourself - I think this is the most common random event after the discovery of flight. I get it all the time (either myself to choose ...or the AI) make note if They grant You access to Your plane/blimp - it could give You a clue wheter AI is against You or trying to make friends with You ;)

ahh I see. Considering all 3 of the civs involved are my vassals with Furious relation towards me, I am pretty sure whats on their mind ;)
They should have treated me better during the bow and pike era - perhaps then their riflemen could have avoided getting crushed by my tanks ;)

No one likes tanks particularly if everyone else isn't in the modern eras.

How do you simulate turns? Ie, let AI take over for a certain amount of turns?

I don't think that's possible without mods. I think BULL might enable it.

I think it's also Shift + number to recall groups. I also think Shift + 4 doesn't work.

Thanks!

I've done some more playtesting. I have found that 1 (or any number key) to recall groups sometimes works, sometimes does not.
I have found that the longer I've played, the more likely it is that they won't.

With the mods loaded the game is generally a bit less stable; for example, I cannot return to main menu after I've played for a while, it crashes the game for me.

I have found it; there's a buton to edit, yes, but there's also one to save the configuration which I'd missed earlier.

I got another couple of quick questions.

I have today completed my first legit Immortal game to a win!
I've won a decent bunch of Immortal games before, but not like this one; not without any do-overs / reloads.
This one was 100% clean.

I'd like to do a writeup on it.

Do you guys have any tips on how to do those?

Is putting all screenshots in spoilers a good idea?
How about resizing them? (I got a 22" widescreen monitor if that makes a difference)
Where do you guys upload them?

Where would I start a topic (or in which topic should I post it?)
Anything else you can think of is welcome!

Read the log, remember your actions, and hopefully you've saved every turn. Writeups also seem to be more popular, the more detail is shown. If you want, click on my Signature and read Replay #9. It's only a few pages long, but there you see, how you should organize your writeup.

Run CIV with 1280 * 1024 resolution, if you go full-hd, most people would have to scroll, which is very unpleasend. Don't forget to run CIV in window-mode when you make the screens. Full screen would stretch them and than they again look ugly. And: You only need spoilers, if you want people to shadow you.

Choose the Stragies and Tips forums for posting your thread. I upload my pictures on Photobucket btw., very god site.

I'm very glad I asked, and glad that you responded.

I completely forgot about the log (!);
Good point on shadowing/spoilers - do you think people would shadow? I still have the 4000 BC save in my autosave folder;
And another good point on screenshot sizes.
From what I see, they get saved as 1024x768 in my screenshots folder and they don't seem to be stretched.

Thank you very much, Seraiel!

If you post it in the Strategy & Tips forum with the 4000 BC save, many people who frequent that forum will be happy to shadow and discuss.

Hi,

i have coastal city on my main continent and a resource within that cities borders but on a tiny island 1 tile away. I improved it but i can't connect it to my trade network. Anyone knows how to deal with it?

For overseas trade routes you need a city or a fort. If the resource is on a one tile island you have to either build a fort on top of it or settle a city on top of it. No other option.

I keep forgetting, does the fort need a road or is just the fort good enough?

Thx, it happens to me so rarely and when it does I usually have multiple sources so I prefer to just work the improvement, that I forget whether I had to road it or not if I go the fort option.
