Small question:

I just had one of my cities start a revolution against me, in favour of a foreign civ (the city will join that civ in 3 turns). How do I stop this from happening?

Do I place a bunch of units in this city or is that too late now? Any other options?

Build up your culture in this city. Build a theater, library, university, monastery, anything that produces culture. This is especially important for cities which are next a culturally strong rival. If your rival gets more influence n a city than you do, then there is a chance for a revolt.

Garrisons reduce the chance that the revolt actually succeeds (if it doesn't, then the city will produce nothing for a couple of turns, but will not flip to your rival), but they have no impact on the chance that a revolt will happen. This chance is governed by the amount of culture that you and your rivals have accumulated in the city.

I know you can edit the name of your leader and your nation but i was wondering if there is a way too change the names of all the leaders and nations that will be played in a game?

How do you get rid of the single-player pop-ups that say that a new technology has been researched, or that you've built your first Melee unit, etc? Basically I want my SP game to act like an MP game.

I find it annoying when an AI player contacts you for whatever reason, and you cannot access any of the advisors or the world map. It would be nice to be able to put the character screen in the background for a second while you check on some other things such as relations or where they are on the map. Is there a way to do this?

In some cases, the advisor buttons in the upper right will work during another dialogue. When you close the advisor then you'll be back to the dialogue. I'm not certain about this particular situation, but I think that, at least, the foreign advisor is available.

Go to the options screen and check "Minimize Popups".

(Sid's Tips actually don't have anything to do with it.)

Me again

It says ere in the Official Strategy Guide (bought it on Sulla's advice :mischief: ) that: 'Around the time that Broadway becomes available, some luxuries start going obsolete.' Which luxuries are being referred to, exactly?

Thanks :)

How profitable are trade routes? For example, how valuable is Free Market and are airports worth the pollution if you don't need to airlift?

I don’t think there are any. I could be wrong, but the in game civilopedia doesn’t have anything in it about obsolescing resources.

Civ4 when through many versions in beta, it might have been removed in the final release version; but it might have been in the version the game guide’s writer received.

These effects are listed under the individual technologies.

Fur is obsoleted by Plastics.
Ivory is obsoleted by Industrialism.
Whale is obsoleted by Combustion.

They can be very profitable, particularly if you have good relations (open borders) with big, far away empires, and/or if you have a lot of coastal cities (with harbours). If the circumstances are right it's not uncommon that trade routes make up a third or more of your total commerce. An extra trade route everwhere is huge in this case.

Thanks Taurendil,

I just noticed there's a new patch, anyone know what's in it?

Also, I'm curious if the top players are settling on any particular civs or leader attributes (creative, aggressive, etc) as being the strongest.

Does anybody know how permanant alliances work on the single player mode? I have 90 turns remaining and i wanted to make a permanant alliance with the rivaling civ, how do i go about doing that? If she wins I win type of thing? Do we have to be the same religion? We have a mutual protection pact and we have been friends throughout the game. I have reseached facism which says it enables permanant alliances, how do i set that up? I gave her facism basically to ensure we both knew it and that didnt work. any ideas?
