Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

EDIT: :( The Musketman is a terrible unit!! A bland, 9 :strength: unit with no effects. The Macemen is better! What the blank did 2K have in mind when they designed this!?

The musketman also does not have a counter and even though it appears substandard it is powerful because it eliminates other unit bonuses. The maceman for instance +50% strength against melee units is useless against musketmen. It also opens the pinch promotion.

Just another quick question, I'm nearing the end of a current game and I'm aiming for a space race victory. I've destroyed both Elizabeth and Wang Kon and so I don't want to war anymore yet everyone else keeps asking me to go to war with them. Is there anything I can do to deter them from asking me? I'm trying to be as friendly as possible to everyone to avoid another war. I've already dropped from friendly to cautious with Sitting Bull because I have to constantly say no.

Bribing them to peace with techs is the obvious solution, especially since their constant warring should have provided you with a solid tech lead.

Send them a polite message requesting that they refrain from bothering you while you're in the middle of attempting to leave that godforsaken planet. And deliver it at the pointy end of an ICBM. They're pretty quiet after that.

I think they are good with cannons if you have a tech lead.

Hi, it's me again. When I own one of the religious buildings that generates revenue, does the gold go directly into my coffers or does it come "through" whichever city owns the shrine? So, if I build the improvements that add a certain percentage to the revenue generated by a city, will I be increasing by that percentage all the revenue I'm generating from the religion that is based in that city?

The shrine city of a certain religion will get 1 base gold for every city in the world that has that religion. All of that gold is subject to the gold multipliers in that shrine city. That's why it's a good reason to build the Wall Street national wonder in the shrine city of a well spread religion.

If a civilisation builds the Spiral Minaret (or similarly the University of Sankore), then each building of the state religion of that civilisation will start producing 2 base gold (1 before BTS). This gold is generated locally and subject to the gold multipliers present in the cities which hold such religious buildings.

Hey there, i'm going to upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as i get the following question answered: what file(s) do i need to backup to keep my "Hall of Fame" (BTS)?

AFAIK the Hall of Fame is just all the files from {My Documents}/My Games/Beyond the Sword/Replays. Not sure if there's some sort of manifest but at least I've deleted individual Hall of Fame entries simply by deleting the corresponding file.

No foolin'? Well then, note to self.

Yeah - if you are the first to Alphabet you can take advantage of that, as then you're in a position to trade techs with everyone but they can't trade with each other.

Is there a "Go-To City" menu screen like in Civ2?

I'm not sure what you mean by a 'Go-To-City' menu. The city list (F1) in Civ4 allows you to enter different cities from the list and you'd access that city directly exactly the same as the normal view when you'd double click a city from the main map. If you click the c button when the city is selected, then you just centre the map on the city but you won't access the city.

It's pretty clear: Alphabet is required to offer tech exchanges, but Ai's which already got Alphabet can ask you ;)

Not really. If either party has alphabet, then both can offer technology exchanges with the other party.

That's the thing. He DIDN'T have it and wanted it FROM me.

Just as you can see the AI's techs when they have Alphabet and you don't, and ask for it, the reverse is also true.
