Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I have 319 & was wondering if their is any replacements for the flags to their true depiction?

Thanks

With advanced (accelerated) start, what are the blue or red rings at the start supposed to indicate? Is it to do with where you can build your city?

With advanced start you can begin the game with multiple cities. The red ring indicates a suggested location for your first city (capital). The blue rings indicate a suggested location for other cities.

Civilopedia has a breakdown of the unit categories , and in case of doubt regarding of if a unit will be targeted by a certain promo, always a good place to check things ;)

Thanks for that. I have played it at that start for about two years and could never find anything written about it (which probably means I was looking in the wrong place). I thought it had something to do with the city siting but equating red with danger, I thought that the red circle was a spot to not site a city. Given that it always looked to be in a great spot, this seemed absurd.

Hiya

Got CIV IV yesterday and can tell I'm gonne love it
Have spent a couple hours trying to find out how to turn cheats on
have found out i need to change cheats 0 to cheats chipotle in the config file
however there is no cheats 0 in my config file
any help / info appreciated
thanks

Try not to cheat, otherwise you can't measure your own improvement ;)
Playing on the easiest level (settler?) is kind-of like cheating anyway.
As soon as you master it, go up a difficulty level.
Also, read up on a few guides posted on this forum...

Thanx, but I've been playing CIV for near twenty years (just not CIV 4) and my fav way to play is to cheat at the beginning (to add a scout) and then not cheat anymore

have now found the world editor thingie will let me add a scout so it's all good

thanx for the link will have a good look :)

Is there an option that lets me view the battles of other civilizations and not my own only? Kind of like show enemy/friendly movement but i want to be able to see the battles and combat that other civilization's units have. I dont see any options in the game to allow this so im guessing i will have to modify something if its even possible at all. Thanks

There is no option for that. You would have to do some modding. However, if the land where the war is going on belongs to a civ that you have open borders with and you are not at war with the other civ, you can send one of your units to accompany the army of one of the civs. Then you will see the battles, although not in great detail, if you have the show enemy and friendly movement options active. Since you are not at war with either of them, your unit will not ever be involved, just observing. If you don't have open borders, you can do the same thing with a spy, although there is some risk that your spy will eventually get caught and earn you a -1 for diplomacy.

Yeah what im looking for is the little battle animation that units have where they fire at each other, i mostly need it because it helps when it centers on them and tells me what battles are going on and where, especially when a team mate or ally is in need of help. Is there any way to modify it so it shows this? There must be a mod out there for this but i have looked and found nothing :(

In the stories and tales threads for Civ 4 people name units, such as "The First Rifle Brigade" Or whatever. How do you do that?

Can someone explain what power plants do? Plus, is there a reason to build more than one in a city (i.e. a coal plant if I have nuclear)?

They provide power in the city they're built in. Factories use power to increase their production output from +25% to +75%.

Various power plants have their own advantages and disadvantages, all clearly noted in the civilopedia. You need only one to get the advantages of power in that city.
