Quick Questions and Answers

Did they remove the Avoid Growth option and the Unit List screen? That second one in particular seems senseless to remove but I can't find either; I don't have to use it that often but when I use it I REALLY need it. Maybe I'm just blind and can't see them?

Unit list is basically replaced by "Military Overview", found in the microscopic + sign in the bottom right interface, left of the orbital view toggle. Clicking units in there will select them on the map (but not move the map to them until you leave the screen and click on them again).

On the city screen, clicking in any of the 5 items under "focus" will automatically adjust the worked tiles accordingly, and you can always unemploy citizens, but there doesn't seem to be a way to get your city to throw away any food it isn't eating immediately.

How can I tell my relative ranking in various categories please? For example in population, or tech.
Or military strength.

There does not seem to be an equivalent of the old "demographics" screen.

You mentioned before that you do have a windows partition; can you download the free demo?

No, I don't have Windows, actually. I don't really have any interest in using it.

Thank you I thought Firaxis was going to release the music as a stand alone as well?

This is the easiest way to currently access the music:
Currently the best way to access the music files is via the path C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth\assets\Sounds\Streamed\Music. They are ogg files, which can be played by VLC (which will also convert them to MP3 if you want). There's no word yet on whether they will be made more accessible, in MP3 form.
However, if you're more technologically inclined and want the proper soundtrack, follow this method:
Strangely, the MP3 files have been packed in Resources\dx11\ (something like OtherData).fpk

They have file names like xx song title.mp3, and they also have been properly tagged.

You can unpack them using the tool Dragon Unpacker, since BE's fpk file format is not greatly different from Civ5's.

I wonder if the game actually plays those MP3 files or the OGG giles.
+1000000 cuc!

found it at Resources\common\MiscData.fpk used Dragon UnPacker got it into iTunes and on my phone for some easy listening while I finish out my work day!

Attached is the actual config file. I don't see a whole lot that will help you, TBH, and it could very well be different on the Mac version. We just don't know what Aspyr is doing with OpenGL and how your Mini will react when the CPU has to handle 90% of the graphics processing. You can bet it won't be better than in Windows, where the HD3000 is at least nominally supported.

Thanks! I'll take a look. (It's a MacBook Pro, FWIW, not a Mini.)

Is it only possible to build a single expedition with an explorer? Can they be recharged? It seems like I'll have a bunch of extra explorers lying around if they can only build one.

Walk them back to your city and they recharge. I think you have to mouse over the expeditions part of them to find that.

In addition, there are choices that are made later that increase the number of expeditions they can have (I forget which one, it was one of the "first time building this building" things).

Is the only way to move a satellite to delete the unit? I received a solar collector from a pod, launched it for some free money but now I have a miasma remover and I have a bunch of miasma around but my solar collector has like 40 turns left.

Just started first game (just to see if it would run on my laptop)

After landing, I can see there are 5 geothermals on the map.

Did they change this? I thought you had to research a tech to have them appear on the map (e.g. like titanium)

Did you pick Tectonic Scanner as a seeding option? That will allow you to see them right away.

Affinities question. I keep making decisions in quests and doing other actions which have the +Harmony next to them but the game doesn't seem to show any effect of this anywhere. Are these decisions really affecting anything or just an inconsequential lore feature?

I noticed there's a tiny bar underneath each of the affinity icons in the top left corner, which indicates how many more 'points' you need to put in a specific affinity to get to its next level.
Certain techs and the more involved quests give you an entire level immediately, but smaller ones just give you a bit of progress towards the next level. I think.

Can anyone list out the entire sequence of actions required for each victory? I know the first ones:

Domination:
Conquer everyone else's capital (I know this is the only quest in this victory)

Contact:
Locate the Signal
???

Transcendence:
Research Nanotechnology, Transgenics and Swarm Robotics
??? (probably build Mind Flower, but then how many transcendence points are required for victory?)

Emancipation:
Build Lasercom Satellite
??? (build emancipation gate? But then what, how many troops required for victory?)

Promised Land:
Build Lasercom Satellite
??? (build exodus gate? But then, how often do units come through the portal?)

Okay. So I've held back on buying it. Anyone who has the game, is it worth purchasing right now? Or should I wait until it gets better?
