Is this something I have to install extra? Have I missed anything else? If I haven't provided enough information I can look at my mod list in game tonight.
The first 2 options will install Vox Populi, which is the full package. The default option includes EUI (Enhanced User Interface) and the 2nd does not. Some folks like EUI and some don't, preferring to install other UI mods instead (such as whoward's many picknmix UI mods). Your choice. The 3rd and 4th options are limited installations that leave out some of the gameplay and balance addons included in Vox Populi. You'd only use these if you were going with alternative balance mods, or want more of a vanilla experience along with bugfixes and AI improvements.
There's some discussion concerning an alternative, custom UI overhaul for Vox Populi, so you may be referring to that thread. I don't think that's off the ground yet, so you aren't missing anything. EUI presents a number of difficulties from both a usability and a modding perspective, thus the interest in an alternative. Nonetheless, it does incorporate a wealth of information and functionality that is lacking in vanilla. I'd experiment with both options to see what suits you.
edit: like vyyt says, there are alternative mods that address individual UI components. Mainly whoward's stuff and MM's city screen. Some gameplay mods also have their own UI elements (e.g. JFD's mods) which don't play nicely with EUI, even if they're otherwise compatiple with VP.
