Quiet, Almost too quiet

You realize the media don't have to report these incidents. So there could be significantly more, and the trend could be political bias on the part of the reporter. It's even possible that there could be under-reporting when there is enough other news of substance to fill the quota. Does the quiet period correspond with a time when there is a lot more significant news?

Well the newspaper certainly have not had any blank pages in the last few weeks. I track a couple of websites that claim to keep an eye on these events. Certainly my efforts are imperfect.

Man, such a thread would have been considered unacceptable a couple of years ago. Now it's barely in bad taste.
Only a matter of time until people start making bets on time, location and bodycount.

Murder-suicide in Virginia last week.

Last year to date there were 23 events meeting the requirement. There can be little doubt that the pace has slowed in 2014. (Of course the number of these massacres has been going down for several years. I mean to say so far 2014 is in line with that larger trend.)

So talking about this national disgrace is in bad taste? I suppose cultured people once refused to talk about slavery or whatever "elephant in the middle of the room."

Hey, I said barely in bad taste. I didn't mean talking about it in general, but using a cheesy movie stock phrase that telegraphs something is bound to happen strikes me as quite jaded and cynical.

Reports coming in of four killed in and near Bucyrus, Ohio. These killings are not included as they were not by gunfire. Further, the timeline is not clear, there may have been a "cooling down" period.

I know the feeling. I started this as part of my list-making compulsion. But, it does provide an antidote to a lot of things said out there. These killings are not weekly occurrences. They seem to happen "only" about every ten days or so. Further, we can see a decline over the years. In addition, we have not seen even one gang-related shooting that meets the requirement.

Mostly this is people killing friends and family.

Gang violence doesn't get this flashy. This thread is about the thunder. Gangland violence kills one, two, one, like steady drops of rain. One storm sends suburbanites to the weather channel. The other keeps the ground wet.
