R:I. My personal spin-off

R:I ver 3.71b, modded with the - after my opinion - most important of my changes (techs, buildings, terrain, improvements, civilizations (all nations playable by both human and AIs, Orthodoxy enabled), Units (naval units as the most important, Archers allowed before archery (together with Militias) and changes to the Buildinfos.xlm file).

1st testgame started - looks promising.

I'm really looking forward to learn how the game shapes up here at the start, with the very first techs coming in quick succession - how will the AI handle this opportunity?!

Birdman, please tell us in more detail what changes you have made. Could you attach the modified files, as well as the maps you create? It looks interesting.

Details will be added/corrected bit by bit in the #-posts I made on page 1 and pages 7 and 8.

I haven't tried to upload a scenario to my spinn-off thread yet - but I might as well try....... If I succeeds, I'll make a comment about it.

Current map is now uploaded to post #12 and - with some luck - it can be downloaded to your own 'puter. Guess you know where to place it in.

Looks like the Barbarians have had some fun.....

Spoiler Cityruins :

Besides the cityruins I also found 4 Barbarian cities. As I havn't gone through the whole map in details, there might be more ruins and small Barbarian cities here-and-there......

Else - the game seems to behave quite well.

Very dangerous. Have you changed the spawn values for the barbarians?

Yes and no.

Yes as I have prevented the Barbarians to settle a city. If they "want one", they have to conquer one.

No as the number of Barbarians is a direct result of the chosen handicap I play with (Monarch) and the mapsize. This line in the file ....\GameInfo\CIV4GameInfo.xml (section Handicap Monarch) is decisive for the max. number of Barbarians - the more free space, the more Barbarians will appear over time: <iUnownedTilesPerBarbarianUnit>40</iUnownedTilesPerBarbarianUnit>

Did you change the income from tiles? Or did you change the income from resources to make them more 'valuable' ?

I have only made a few changes in this the new version - but in the old one based on RI 3.6 I had a lot. I'm sure I will add "a number" of changes to this too. But! I'm not going to document all these changes, because I don't think they are that important to others. Only what I find important will be mentioned.

And BTW: I did find a very important "Sin_of_Omission in my scenario. I have not placed some of the most important resources (copper, iron, coal and sulphur) near any of the "designed" spots for cities. Ok - there was one Iron 2 tiles away and 1 copper 4 tiles away from a city (the one I choosed as my 2nd city). And 4 tiles to the nearest copper-resource....... that doesn't "work" as this means that France do not have a chance to survive the Medieval Era as a nation. And since all nations in my Scenario must have a real chance, then.... Now the scenario has changed and the game has restarted.

I haven't uploaded the new one yet, but I will during the day.

In my 1st game I focused on the economy - but I had to "pay" dearly with a slow expansion - way too many battles with those pesky Barbarians. And too many of them too.

That's why this time I had expanded as much and as quickly as possible. But my finances do not "like" that (as I knew it wouldn't). The result can be seen quite clearly as I only have 5% on science.

That's one of the things I love about this game - every advantage is offset by (at least) one downside..... It is difficult - and it should be so.

where can I download your changes?
I haven't uploaded my changes anywhere and I can't really imagine that I ever will.

Because all what I am doing is "only" to make some personal adjustments to the official version of Realism Invictus, so I get my personal "wishes" fulfilled. Besides, not everything I do is as "elegant" as more experienced people can do it.

And now to the game I was playing.

It ended - as expected - a few days ago, when I upgraded to the newest release v. 3.72.

A new game with even more of my changes will start within next week. I'm going to update some of my #-posts on page 7 with my latest changes. Among other things new buildings for early ironworking, weaponsmiths, lumberyard and some bonuses related to those buildings.

Ohh well - maybe it took a few weeks more than expected. But now ready for my 1st test-game based on RI ver. 3.72.

Ohhhh - clay.

Do I miss that? Have to consider.........
