R&L01 - Monarch Space Race

Things are going well team. I just wish I could claim a hand in the success. :)

If anyone could use a swap let me know as I'm suffering from C3C withdrawl. My other SG's are moving at a slow pace (one player in two games was up and got a virus :( that stagnated things for a few days) and I can't bring myself to start a solo game.

RowandLive posted a turnset at about 4:30 my time (-1.5hrs) for SGOTM04 so he may be playing his turns for this right now.

Edit: What not even a comment about the new and improved Borg Cube?

@ jb1964: If you need a C3C turn set, there's an open game where the goal is high approval rating as President of the US. I was the last one to play and tried to set up for a dow on Rome if the next president thinks it will help their approval rating. The only goal is high approval rating, otherwise there's not a cohesive strategy.

Hail to the Chief

1525 – 0
Reset prefs.
Sumeria would give Myst + 150g (whole treasury) for writing – no.

IBT: We build the Colossus! Bgalley adjacent to Flying Wing.
Seoul > settler in 3.

1500 – 1
Dan rests, Ann roads, Bee moves on road, Al S

IBT: Flying Wing survives flawlessly. BH come out of village to W.

1475 – 2
Flying Wing 2S, Al W -0 kills BW, Dan SW-S, Bee S
Change Pyongyang to spear in 1 due to slow growth.

IBT: Pyy spear > spear in 5, Wonsan worker > warrior in 10

1450 – 3
Ceil W to cattle, Al W, Flying Wing 2S, Dodge forts in Pyy, Dan to Pyy, Bee roads

IBT: Seoul settler > spear in 2
Another BG shows up across island

1425 – 4
settler S, Ann S, Dan W, Flying Wing SW-S, Al S, Ceil mines

IBT: another BH

1400 – 5
Flying Wing SW & sees another BG S so moves W to end in ocean, Al NE, settler E-S, Ann SW-S, Dan W

IBT: Seoul spear > rax in 4, Flying Wing survives!

1375 – 6
Ann & Bee SW, settler S, Dan N, Flying Wing 2W & sees more extensive Sumerian border!!!, Al NE,
Sumeria will sell worker for 103g or 5gpt + 13g & they have 144g – deal for 5gpt+13g.
Since Sumeria only has 4 cities, we must have 2 light blue opponents.
MM spending back up for writing in 9 for -6gpt @ 90%. 10% to happiness.
Parry, spear, forts in Seoul. One (Sumer slave) S.

IBT: Another BH! Flying Wing lost without meeting neightbor!

1350 – 7
Dan W, One E-S-SE, Ann & Bee road, settler SE, Al forts

IBT: Pyy spear > archer in 5

1325 – 8
One roads, settler founds Pusan > warrior in 10, Spin rests
Change Seoul to settler in 1 with growth in 1 – shouldn’t revolt.

IBT: Seoul settler > rax in 5. Sumerians begin Pyramids in Ur.

1300 – 9
settler NW, Ann & Bee mine, One SE, Bob -2 kills a BW

IBT: Sumerians begin Oracle in Kish! Oh boy! Toys for us to take away!

1275 – 10
Bob rests, settler NW, One mines, Ceil roads

Notes to next player (Detlef):
- the Barbs to the W aren’t an immediate threat, but growing. Need to cut their numbers using Bob, Dan & archer due in Pyy in 3 (+ Spin spear if needed).
- upcoming spear names: guard, thrust, pwang!!!
- Settler headed either 3NW for safety or 2NW-1N for canal.
- need another curragh to check neighbors to W
- Seoul has growth in 4 & rax in 4, but will revolt if spending not adjusted. Trying to keep writing to min, so perhaps pop a citizen to scientist to help the cause in 3 turns.
- Pyy needs a temple to get 3BG up & running.

Thanks, Misfit! I'll have to give it a good look tonight.

Since Sumeria only has 4 cities, we must have 2 light blue opponents.

I usually play with the "Color Blind" help turned on. It helps to tell the 2 similar civs apart.

Otherwise looks like good progress. We need to make sure we keep our worker count up so that our citizens are always working improved tiles. Agree that we need another ship or 2 to meet more civs, but the Bgalleys seem to be as bad here as in a GOTM.

I do too, but I never saw any units or cities. If I had, I would have contacted.

This would be in keeping with the archipelago. So far, most of the land masses seem to be close together, but the opponents on our end of the planet aren't bunched. Good for us!

Play slow. I'm up in three SG's and I don't want another skip. Really it's only about 2.1 (got to hunt down a settler at sea) but it still takes time.

My turns:

1250BC: Wonsan builds warrior, next temple (perhaps as prebuild)
changed Pusan to spearman

1225: nothing

1200: Pyongyang builds bowman, next barracks
found Namp'o and start with barracks

1175: Seoul builds barracks, next settler

1150: trade with Sumer: mysticism <-> writing

1125: nothing

1100: nothing

1075: Pusan builds spearman, next barracks

1050: Seoul builds settler, next bowman

1025: nothing

I see that the stack of barbs is gone in the E. Nice job Detlef! I'm not sure what you had in mind for placing Namp'o, since it can't access the fish, but perhaps we can get them with the next city. I know the volcano is a matter of when, not if, but a canal city there would have been nice. We're researching CoL now, correct?

Ahh, i forgot the republic free tech thing. I've gone directly to philo. The next player should change it.
I was hemmed by the vulcano. I have never tried, what happend to citys which lies at the range of an activ vulcano. We can use the fish if we build a city on the forest tile at the coast.

How far into researching PHIL are we?

If its only a turn we should change it. If we have already been several turns than stay on PHIL and grab one of the more expensive techs, usually Currency or Construction. Try not to grab a deadend tech or something we think we can trade for soon (AI will reserch MapM).

6-7 turns.

Sometimes the volcanic fallout hits tiles to one side or the other simply leaving them polluted. So just because you're at the base of a volcano doesn't mean your city is certainly doomed WHEN the volcano spews. However, if the city is in the volcano's path of destruction it's destroyed utterly.

So if you're going to plant a city below a volcano please name it Pompei.

got it. I will see how much more research we have on philosophy. If we're more than 25% there, we need to stay with it, or will probably not be the first to it if we change now.

[edit]

I just opened the save and checked and wew hav 4 turns to go on philo and have already researched CoL :D  . Therefore I will take republic as the free tech and revolt during my turnset. Will post later tonight after finishing work and playing :)

That's right I set it to CoL back on my turnset. I forgot that. Than no problems at all.
