Random Deity Troublemaking

:lol:

Guess I might have been wrong about your turns being deisive, bed_head :).

Nver mind, onwards and upwards...let' hope you do get a cliffhanger next round.

These weren't decisive either.

Pre-flight – Sorry, but I think having our capitol on wealth when we are at war is a bad idea. Switch it to a rifle. Syracuse is building a courthouse and loses one shield and four gold to corruption. Change it to a rifle. Our lack of defenders really is like painting a target on our chest. You have to figure that Sumeria has tanks. If one tank is dropped off, we’re toast. Our spy confirms that Sumeria has 21 tanks.

We can execute a careful steal next turn.

IBT – Antium: st ex =>cathedral (we’re short on happies there)
Pisae: cathedral=>guerilla
Russia completes the UN

1355 – No vote. Spend 2490G and steal Electronics from Sumeria.

IBT – Good thing we didn’t pull Portugal into the war. Sumeria signs them in against us. We lose our saltpeter supply
Pompeii: rifle=>guerilla

1360

Wall street completes
Veii starts guerilla
Cumae: arty=>arty
Ravenna: st ex=>guerilla
Caesaraugusta: bank=>library (for culture)
Jerusalem: harbor=>aqueduct

1365

IBT - Mongolia and Sumeria sign a peace treaty, breaking our MA. . We lose our supply of incense and oil. Of course that causes Berlin to riot. I scoll ahead and fix it. BTW, Russia signs Mongolia into a MA against the Byzantines. I’m impressed Temujin.
Pompeii: guerilla=>guerilla

1370 – I spend 116G trying to plant a spy in Portugal, but fail. I figure my luck has to change sometime so I spend 93G and get a spy in Moscow. Looking at Russia’s army, I realize just how stupid that was. If I had failed, we wouldn’t survive the remaining turns I have to play.

IBT – Portugal signs the Byzantines into an embargo against us.
Syracuse: guerilla=> barracks :smoke: I should have checked to see if we had one there during the pre-flight. Any other cities like that? No.
Pisae: guerilla=>guerilla
Lugdunum: Cop Shop=>guerilla
1375 – In something I should have done last turn, I dial up Mongolia and see what it will take for them to break their peace treaty. They just want Ivory. I ask for incense and oil and throw in 9 gpt.

IBT – Sumeria must have gotten a carrier, because we are getting bombing runs on Berlin.
Pompeii, Veii: guer=>guer
Cumae: arty=>arty
The Russians start SETI.

1380 –

IBT – Some of Berlin’s citizens are killed
Casearaugusta: library=>St EX

1385 –
IBT – Pompeii: guerilla=>guerilla
Lutetia: market=>library (culture)
Ravenna : guer=>guer

1390 – Spend 2592G on a steal from Sumeria and we get Steel.

IBT – Mongols and Portuguese sign a treaty. Berlin’s temple is destroyed. Temujin wants to talk. He wants an embargo against the Byzantines. Well we would be losing a great deal of commerce, would you be willing to make that up? 1gpt? No thanks.
Cathy wants to cancel our silks for gpt deal. She’ll renew it for silks. Done. Then Cathy moves a mini stack next to Cumae. :hmm:
Berlin: Cop Shop=>barracks
Veii: guerilla=>hydro plant
Cumae: arty=>arty
Syracuse: barracks=>guer
Pisae: guer=>guer

1395 -

IBT – Pompeii: guer=>guer
Lugdunum: guer=>library (culture)

1400

After Action – Now that we have Wall Street, try and keep our cash on hand above 1000G. We now have at least one defender that is defense 6 or better in every city. I doubt we could withstand a serious attack anywhere.

Save: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/RDT,1400AD.SAV

1400AD: We can fire many specialists. Switch some builds to hydro plant.

I try an immediate steal on Sumeria and take Combustion.

I disband 3 spearmen as they offer no value and cost unit support.

IBT we are bombarded and lose some pop and a harbor.

(1)1405AD: Russia and Portugal make peace.

IBT we lose a temple, Sumeria transport is sunk by Russia. :)

(2)1410AD: IBT only one bomber.

(3)1415AD: two bombardment.

IBT Sumeria completes Mahattan.

(4)1420AD: Jerusalem drops to pop 1.

(5)1425AD: we have enough gold to have another steal (and keep above 1000g), so we take Flight. We desperately need some AA units.

I upgrade 3 musketmen. Pompeii starts airport and will be a bomber factory.

IBT Portugal lands an infantry. Sumeria and Portugal signs MPP. Portugal declares on Mongols. Lots of Mongol units move toward the Portugal landing infantry. :) Portugal declares on Russia, and the Portugal infantry is killed.

Caesaragusta flipped. It's a ring-2 city. :( We lose one ivory. I buy it from Russia for 25gpt+9g. I join our settler for now.

(6)1430AD: some Sumerian landing is taken care of by our neighbors. Russian units sit on our pollution so we cannot clean up! They should read the "no RoP abuse" rule!

(7)1435AD: I starve Palmyra a bit to get library one turn earlier - we need some culture.

(8)1440AD: I cancel MA with Russia to stop paying money. Fail to plant spy on Portugal. Fail to steal from Sumeria and lose our spy.

(9)1445AD:

(10)1450AD:

We should wait for 5 turns before trying to plant spy again.

I actually suggest we make peace with Sumeria when MA expires, make a gpt deal, and try plant/steal again. So make sure we have enough money for one or two steals. We can also bombard Faro which triggers its MPP with Sumeria.

The flipping really kills us. However we should keep Russia/Mongols at war with Sumeria and just steal into space launch I guess.

I forgot to respond to what Bugsy said about Pompeii on wealth. You almost gave me reasoning in your log, as Russia will still roll right over us if they so desired. Anything Sumeria lands can be dealt with through artillery and Russia, so building some rifles to raise unit support seemed dumb to me. Of course, I should have disbanded the spears as microbe did, but in SGs I am generally tenative to do anything that could be construed as wasteful.

microbe said:
Wealth is absolutely wasteful! With so many outdated units, why not disband them and build better ones to replace?

That too is wasteful in its own way. I really didn't see the point of having very many units at all, other than to make the Russians possibly think twice about attacking us. What we have, or even could build, is not enough to deter an attack should it come. So it it seems much more valuable to keep the Russians tied up with Sumeria, disband everything outdated, and get our military down to what our cities can support. But doing all that disbanding wasn't a decision that I needed to make, while I had to set Pompeii to something, and my preference was obviously not to build units.

Hey that's what makes an SG interesting. We all play it slightly different. I didn't mean to criticize you JD. Sorry.

IBT:
sumerians start SETI

IBT 1465 (3):
mongols and sumeria sign peace :(
we lose oil and incense
port land near jerusalem, mongols move tons of units toward them before russians kill the 2 cav
berlin riots, move forward to prevent more lost productivity
st. petersburg builds SETI

1470 AD (4):
make peace with sumer for 200g
send 'em dyes for spice, rubber & 10 g

IBT:
trade embargo byz/port ends
russians build SS cockpit & docking bay

1475 AD (5):
prepare bombers for faro (realize some turns later ther is one in berlin)

IBT:
ports and mongols sign peace

1480 AD (6):
get MP and MT from sumer for 230 gpt each
try to plant spy and fail -> war with sumer
get incense from mongols for 28 gpt
disband some trebs, 2 MI, guerilla and arty for commercial dock in syracuse

IBT (1495-1500 AD):
mongols destroy byz

notes:
we have 6701 gold. suggest we try to pay sumer again for peace (they don't talk now) and get another tech for gpt. plant spy afterward. didn't risk steals from mogolia and russia and don't think we should. we would need a lot of units to prevent cities from flipping.

had some crushes when changing specialists. do you know something about that?

I have to say, disbanding modern units makes absolutely no sense to me. I can see the trebs, although I prefer to upgrade them, but the arty and the guerilla just makes no sense.

i wanted to save the legions to reduce flip risk. a treb costs 150 g to upgrade, although we have the money now, thats more then we can afford. disbanding the 2 modern units saved more then 10 turns of the dock, money seems more important to me then units we can rebuild.

very busy at the moment but will look to read through the last couple of turns and play tonight

Random Deity Troublemaking, inherited turn 1500AD

I don't expect I'll be getting another turn in this one...

Inherited turn, something I've not seen mentioned: Sumeria has over 95,000 culture. This is the graph:

RDT1500Culture_thumb.jpg

Does Sumeria have twice the Russian culture? You decide, I can't tell....it's very close, as far as I can make out Russia's culture is just over half Sumeria's, but it's too tight to be sure. Doesn't look good.

We are at war with Sumeria and Portugal, ditto Russia. Mongols are at peace...we can't have that! There is a significant risk that they might join Sumeria against ourselves and Russia, so we have to drag them back into the fray...it costs 21gpt but is worth it, IMHO, even though it does prevent us making temporary peace with Sumeria. Also sign free rop.

I make peace with Portugal, sending them electronics and taking the little they can muster, fascism, 23g + 2gpt.

Renegotiate lux deal with Russia, picking up an extra 360g.

Try to plant spy on Sumeria (138) but fail.

Our prospects are bleak, we have a minor chance of a space run, and that is the only hope we have to cling to...to the bitter end! :hammer:

Early: Russians add engine to ship, Portugal declares war on Mongols on the first interturn. Sumeria's culture increases by 423 points..so if they do have double Russian culture, they will win in 13 turns :eek:

Keep trying to plant spy in Sumeria once a turn but fail each time. In 1510 Sumeria lands a force next to Jerusalem, but the Mongols clear them out...goodjob too since there is no way we could have got rid of them :lol: Portugal and Russia make peace for 5 seconds then MPP re-triggers :rolleyes: Russia adds casing to ship.

I'm devoid of ideas to prevent a Sumerian cultural victory...we don't have a snowball's chance of razing any of their cities, and there is just no way to stop a cultural victory that has so much momentum. The only thing we can hope for is that Russian culture is more than half Sumeria's.

Middle: finally succeed in planting a spy in 1525. Try a safe steal for 3000g +...it fails. Yuk. Fortunately the spy escapes. Straightaway try a careful steal...succeeds! We take Fission and predictably have no uranium. Ship Fission + 36gpt to Mongols for Rocketry...we have no aluminium either :/

Russia adds Thrusters and is halfway to a launch. Something about a rock and a hard place springs to mind.

Late: try a careful steal from Sumeria in 1545, just my luck that it fails and the spy is caught. An immediate re-plant is unsuccessful, so we currently have no spy in Sumeria. To add insult to injury Portugal allies with Sumeria against us :p.

Sumeria has 99530 culture, so we'll know within 3 turns whether they have double Russian culture. Our space chances are meagre but not impossible...we'll have to scratch and bite to get the neccassary techs, somehow get hold of aluminium, uranium, rubber and oil, and build all 10 parts before Russia. Sounds like a job for the Deity Troublemakers :lol:

Go JD :thumbsup:
