There are very few places in the US with a competitive internet market.

Don't most people have a choice between their monopolistic cable provider and their equally monopolistic telephone provider?

I do have a choice between both of those!

Unfortunately they both offer exactly the same service/products.

Up here we have the choice of those two or a bunch of smaller ones that use the infrastructure of those two so they all end up at about the same price and the same level of service. Oh, and if there is a problem with the infrastructure, customers of the smaller companies get their lines fixed after the big two's customers have been fixed and the maintenance crews have had time for a coffee breaks, vehicle maintenance, and a movie or two.

Absolutely not, and the mere suggestion of such is anti-business.

You're not one of those damn dirty communists are you?
I cannot understand how a complete* monopoly on telecommunications can be resisted as ‘communist’.

*except for radio

look, if you have more than two telecomms, one of them might decide to compete by lowering prices. It takes away from their god-given right to profit, and we can't be havin' that. :cowboy:

Oh no, the model for 'phone companies follows the GHWB-era diktat of first paying off all state-owned companies' debts by issuing bonds and then selling them off to private capital.

So we can be havin' that. :deal:

rant: I think takhi is taking me seriously

A rant: Getting utterly irrelevant search results that often omit entire words as the top results. It always seems to be the big corporate sites, too.

I hate it when that happens to me. The solution - using quotation marks around the must-have word - is no guarantee either, apparently. At least for some of my problems.

I've occasionally had some luck with verbatim (it's hidden under tools) but it still sometimes fails as well.

You have a lot to learn, young grasshopper.
go ahead and rave that somebody called you young

I've spent a long time trying to find a book that I read in junior high school, with the slight problem in that I have no title or author. I've searched everywhere I can think of, and I can't find anything at all. I'm starting to question if it even existed at all. (And since everyone seems to link me there, I've already tried the suggestions on this page.)

What's the story in the book Aimee? What's the plot? Maybe someone here can help.

It involves a teenager who accidentally runs over another teenager with a car. I've found multiple books with similar plotline but none are what I was looking for. Went through a bunch of sites, Goodreads, LibraryThing, WorldCat, so forth, nothing.
