Well that sucks. Hot chocolate is supposed to be a cuddly as it gets.
Oooooh. (I may have to try this now in the spirit of SCIENCE)

To save you the experiment...are you familiar with that over eager couldn't wait for the pizza to cool and now there's molten cheese stuck to the roof of my mouth feeling? Never let it be said that I would stand in the way of science, but it's similar enough that you can probably skip it.

I have Parkinson's Disease (young-onset) with corresponding resting and action tremours. It's generally controlled with medication but remains just enough to make things like trying to hold a mug full of hot liquid a bit risky.

I use travel mugs even when I'm not in a car. I've had tremor issues since I was a kid.

Of which one would you like to cure them first if you had the choice?

Their homelessness. It's the more pressing need. One can only start addressing the ways in which a culture's gender standards might be destructive after more urgent needs are met. But . . .

I think the best intervention for homeless men is housing. I don't think that's got much to do with gender.

So, one of the guys she interviewed genders his experience of homelessness by saying "I felt like a little girl could push me over." Maybe don't put the shelter next to a girls judo studio, is what it strikes me Dej is arguing (from the quotes that have been provided in the two hostile summaries; I'm looking into whether I can get the text itself).

If homeless men experience their homelessness, at least in part, in terms of their masculinity, have that in mind when you reach out to them.

I suspect that Airaksinen and Blatchford are distorting Dej's message.

aimee, I suggest you follow Tim's covert advice and let it cool down a bit before attempting drinking next time.

Who's the victim gonna be?

Give them a place to live.
You and Dej share that aim, brennan. Additionally, she wants to make sure internalized ideas about what it means to be a man don't interfere with their availing themselves of the place you are offering them.

(Near as I can make out, reading her piecemeal through hostile paraphrase.)

State bureaucracy, grrr. I have to obtain a certificate but I first have to book an appointment and appointments can only be made online and they can only be made during the state office's opening hours.

Just feel lucky you don't need the certificate to book the appointment.

Actually, it's part of the process needed to get my degree. My university has a copy of my secondary education degree but they refuse to integrate the database with that of the people actually in charge of giving me the @#~$%&! degree so I have to ask for a (physical) certificate that they have the copy of my secondary education degree and then take it, personally, to the other office who will then allow me to apply for a degree.

It is just as stupid as it sounds.

...and charging a fee at each step?

A nominal fee of, apparently, three pesos. The exchange rate throughout all this year until a month or so ago was 20-1 in favour of the U.S. dollar, and now it's 40-1, so… well, it's peanuts.

Had what I thought was a nice dinner date tonight...

Until she just took off after going to the bathroom and leaving me with the bill.
:( I am astonished that someone would actually do that. At least you you found out early what kind of person she is. Small investment, profound knowledge.

In addition to travel mugs, you could use kids sippy cups.

I did try one of those lidded coffee cups but had trouble drinking from it. I might try a different one.

For cold drinks, I do have one of those lidded mugs with a plastic straw sticking out the top. It's nice because it's really hard to spill. The straws are a pain to clean though. I read to use a pipecleaner but when I tried all the fuzzy stuff got caught on the inside.
