Random Rants 0x52: [Obligatory rant about title]

Sounds like Autumn depression. Check your D3 levels and other vitamins. After that check your life goals.
It's kind of a year-round thing, I'm just noticing it more and more. I have no life goals anymore since there's no real point. Instead, I'm just killing time.

That sounds like you are stuck. Every soul has a basic need to get further in evolution.

No, they water is fine. It’s a certain brand but also no the oil used at Chinese’s restaurants in America are the same as other, depending, could be olive or canola. Soy sauce is different.
They wouldn't be using castor oil would they? Or a blend of that and another oil? Castor oil gives you the runs from what I've read.
Rant: I hItave lost my interest in virtually everything, and it shows. I can't learn new skills or improve old ones because I'm too bored to press on with it. I don't want to continue old hobbies or take up new ones. Almost everything has become a chore that I only do reluctantly. I eat, sleep, work, and walk the dog, and very little else, and I can't be bothered to do anything else. What's the point?
I'm sorry dude, this sucks.

Yeah it’s a wicked blend only the main ingredient is soybean.

I'm so glad that there were floppy discs before and I kept them so I can use them to watch Sun for eclipses. And try to see Mercury today. Used binoculars with 1x (too bright) and 2x (little too dark but resolution was fine as much I could get it) floppy disk filter. Not enough. After seeing pictures online - wasn't surprised, I might be able to notice 2x wider dot on surface. But still - floppy discs are amazing for this (if don't have real telescope with filters and other stuff...).

I'm sorry to read that, Phrossack, although I think there's the slight silver lining that now that you can articulate what it is you can begin to find a solution.

If I understand it correctly, you watch the eclipse through a disk? I.e. the whole disk, not parts of it e.g. just the plastic case?

The disk itself...spinny part on the inside, film covered with magnetic material...is a material with uniform limited transparency, so a filter. It's pretty dark, so perhaps a sufficient filter for sun viewing...with a camera, not your eyes. Bust open the disk, stick a piece over the lens of your camera, take a picture of the sun and see if you can find Mercury. If it is too bright, stick on another layer.

Does that work with binoculars? I've found a brand-new box with 10 disks that might finally see some use this way.

I suspected so because normal binoculars + sun = blindness, but maybe they were dark enough.

There is risk to get direct sunlight that is magnified (and can be damaging) so - No (officially)
But I did it with binoculars and direct watching (never repeat at home, kids). But with very cautious approach, testing skies (clouds) away from Sun slowly and making sure there is no chance for direct sunlight to get into eye. Two layers of disk gave pretty red and dark Sun.

It is believed that Galileo's own observations of the Sun through his telescope were what led to his sight problems in later life.

Key words, "later in life." I looked at the sun and wasn't blinded immediately is not an endorsement.

^Yes indeed, but for experiments with photometers the tip about old diskettes will, I think, prove highly useful.

Well, yes, the photometer's camera can record, too.

Rant:

Does that mean that your rant is that you have nothing to rant about?

Rant: I forgot my rant!
