It's adorable.

That's how everything got into Florida!
Reming me to never visit Florida.
Some folks thought Asian lionfish would look good in their aquariums. After the lionfish ate everything in their tank they dumped them into the ocean. Now, lionfish are rampaging across the Caribbean's coral reefs like the Mongolian Golden Horde, with no natural predators and plenty of prey. They sure do look pretty, though...

p.s. For humans, aside from threatening the local ecology, those spines that stick out will sting the [bleeping] [bleep] out of you, and they're aggressive.

I'm starting to think that Florida is where US dumps the crazy and dangerous people who can't be part of the normal society.

Apparently East African giant snails are becoming a problem in parts of Florida. Some of them carry a parasitic worm that can burrow through human skin and cause symptoms similar to meningitis. They're still snails, though, so most of us should be able to outrun them.

I remember seeing snails like that in Trinidad. Largest bugs I've ever seen in my life.

Not pleased at all with the raise I got. I'm still severely underpaid as a graphic designer compared to the regional averages. After all the tears and sweat I poured into producing and designing high-quality stuff for them that they'd normally have to contract outside for.

It at least lead me into considering a serious career change to become an electrician. I somehow found myself on an electrical apprenticeship page and was stunned at how much a first year apprentice could be making! Like seriously someone fresh out of high school could literally make the same amount of money on his first day than it took me 10 years to make as a graphic designer with a bachelors.

If you are underpaid relative to national or regional averages, is jumping ship for another company an option? I hear free-lancing is a lot of work, but you might be able to swing some more cash that way.

I just don't think I'd feel comfortable with free-lancing though. I've also tried looking for a new graphic design job but competition is high and the design I do is pretty specialized for engineering. I'm still looking for a new job but it just seems being an electrician could be a cool way to make more money.

Besides, I want to go to Australia someday and it seems electricians are in high demand there. Not to mention even if I became a senior graphic designer, a journeyman electrician would still be paid more and I want a house and kids and a new used car.

See you there. Plus all the Aussie CFCers.

Free-lancing is a high stress gig, from what I can tell of my friends who do it.

Sounds like you have a serious career decision ahead of ya. Jumping, in any case, may be the right decision for you if you can't get what you want from where you are.

I've been doing some intense researching these past two weeks and it seems like an extremely tempting decision. I've already started looking into becoming an electrical constructor and talked with Seattle City Light as well as planning to talk with my uncle who retired from there. They don't have any apprenticeships now but they did point me to a program they have called BEAM (Basic Electrical and Applied Mathematics) that'll help brush up prospective apprentices on the math and electrical theory involved and be prepared for any apprenticeships that do pop-up.

Hell yeah! I'll be there, for the first half of the year.

Well not literally next year. Just a reference to what Jewish folk say; "Next year in Jerusalum."

But I intended to make it happen in a couple years though, make no mistake!

Damn, I never knew any Jews.

You've just figured that out? Why do you think Florida is on a peninsula- it's the closest thing the US had to an island for most of it's history.
And that must be why you keep the Alaskans on the other side of Canada and part of New York on an island.
