Random Rants Two

So much homework, analysis on movie for CT, map for SS, neighborhood list of places for SS, postcard of neighborhood for SS, vocab for English, lab report on mold, study for science tests, etc.

So many computer games, World of Warcraft, Warcraft 3, Guild Wars, Runescape, Ragnarok Online, Devil May Cry 3, etc.

I can't play them all!

Stupid random drunk people sitting on the shelves outside the corner store while their children run wild all around the corner and into the street.

I could smell alcohol for a quarter of the block...and they're long blocks.

Ugh....

Yankee, you really must, for your sanity, abandon the urban environment and pack yourself and girlfriend up for a move to the rural backwoods. Or at the least the suburbs.

Who needs sanity? :crazyeye:

But as soon as I'm able, I'm heading over to the Twin Cities area for a little bit, where she is. That should relieve some of the craziness that happens along Nostrand Avenue here. Oddly enough, I really don't care about your random drunk idiot on the streets in Manhattan unless they're acting aggressively, which is fairly rare. Must be something about the outer boroughs that changes things, either because there's less to do in this area, or because, as said, there's a higher chance of little ones being around. Or it could be just because I'm living on a busier street with plenty of apartment buildings so that if even 1 or 2% are acting weirdly, chances are I'll be right near them. I live in a pretty good area, overall, and I don't encounter this kind of stupidity if I were to walk down one of the many side streets and quiet avenues. On balance, I'd say it's less Brooklyn and more the type of place I happen to be living in at this time. Meh, it should change in a year, hopefully.

Though things were much quieter in my old neighborhood. Too expensive to think about it and too far away from Manhattan.

Then we'll see where my hopefully adequate salary takes me!

Usually I don't care about the random drunks, but when there are five children running around like that, that's when it gets to me. I must be turning weirder in my old age.

I'd be enjoying it a lot more if I had the means to live closer to the city. Of course, given that I'm just finishing college now, I'm living in the cheap seats.

But there are some unique frustrations with city life (I'm looking at you, MTA!) and some unique conveniences. I'm a city person...that might never change, but hopefully my ability to choose what I can do and where I'll be will grow.

But I will say that I had good impressions of life in Greensboro, NC. Maybe it's that type of suburbia that will draw me in.

Detroit transportation used to be adequate. Then the cheapo city decided to cut some buses and now the routes are all slow and overcrowded.

It's filthy, it's like, no one even gets in trouble littering anymore, you couldn't possibly tell the difference.

Every idiot on the road wants to drive down the street in their cheapo car, blasting their sound systems, so that when you get to a stoplight with all the cars it sounds like the orchestra from hell. Don't let someone drive down your street, the bass vibrates your house so much that your windows might break.

Everyone and their mother has to have a dog, just the other week two little girls were walking with some pit bulls and those dogs attacked some other guy's dog. And they all bark incessantly at each other all the time, you'd think they'd develop a sense of familiarity sometime...

Everyone in public wants to talk so loudly and obnoxiously into their cell phones or with the person they're with THEN look at you like you're a stalker for taking notice of them.

There are more Coney islands and Liquor stores than police stations. And this is no lie. Police take up to hours to respond. I have two friends who claim they've been bugrlarized and called the police and NO ONE came. EVER.

Maybe it's just where I live but I have developed a pretty negative connotation of urban life. I'd give two arms and a leg to get out of here..

Yeah, NYC is many times better than Detroit and it puts my rants here to shame (most of the time anyway, there are some real legit ones rather than chance annoyances). So come here and we can both scare the tourists!

 I hate the rural life.

I think I'd hate rural also. I might do okay with suburban...for a time, anyway.

I need to be able to yell random theories about the Four Horsemen on Broadway 24/7!

I wouldn't exactly go rural. I could deal much better with suburban life. I'd think the best thing would be to LIVE outside the city but close enough to go in whenever you want. So you get all the benefit with none of the hassle. That's the kind of setup I'd like.

I have to admit the FedEx(UPS?) thing you posted would have ticked me off beyond all the late buses in the world.

USPS and FedEx. Actually, the USPS has been leaving packages in the hallway even more, but luckily I've gotten them all. Including two antique maps that must have been waiting there for ten hours until I came back from classes.

The carrier from the USPS making these deliveries actually puts more effort into running away as soon as he leaves the package than he does in knocking or even making sure the thing is by the doorstep. Last time, he knocked, I fully opened the door in three seconds, and he was already in the elevator.

Happens with the regular mail carriers when they have to get a signature also. They'll go up to a door (not just mine), knock, then run away.

It's a shame. I finally got good USPS service, then I had to move and I'm back into a black hole worse than I've ever had before. Mostly because I'm in a building, where a left package is in a hallway and not merely on a doorstep away from the sidewalk on a landing.

UPS service here is fantastic, though. Whenever possible, I'll pay for the UPS service.

Why is it I finally manage to become romantically involved with a wonderful person only to have her become so incredibly busy all the way up to the end of the year?

I understand her position and respect her need for space but it still does irk me a bit.

Oh well, in the intervening period I can gather up money from a job and get straight As.

Same here. I love big cities, I love all the activity. Rural is sooooo dull and boring.

Chicago, Sydney, Toronto.

QFT.

but suburbs of TO are just as good as the city itself (well at least until you get to like Aurora or Ajax. Those are kinda crap.)

Rural life...

I would actually shoot myself.

@Yankee Don't worry, I know how you feel.

I hate the god damn subway in New York, gotta take it to school every day. It's packed like tinned sardines, especially the 6 train. And the subway station where I go home, that platform smells like someone pissed, and IT'S ALWAYS THERE.

Move to the suburbs in Queens Yankee. :D

Also, I have to go today to a lunch hosted by one of my classmates. Its not that I don't like the host, but I just don't like riding the subway. -.-

It's not too bad. I live in a village with nothing in it except a pub and a church (no shops). Since I've lived there all my life, I don't know anything else, although if you'd experienced city life as well and liked it, then you'd find it very dull.

Personally, I don't like cities. They're dirty and cramped and noisy and some of them smell of fish.
