Up ridiculously early so I can go and fail my law exam.
Just got home from the exam. Probably didn't fail, I mean I at least answered everything. Still managed to mess up a case name, but got the facts and year right so maybe they won't penalise me too much on that one. Had some fun with one question where I ridiculed a ruling about whether confessions are admissible as evidence where they were obtained through "oppressive conditions". Basically they shouldn't be admissible, but in one case (DPP v Pringle, McCann, O'Shea [1981]) it was ruled that the conditions were not opressive because the defendants were fishermen and would be used to such tough conditions by virtue of the fact they were "hardy men-of-the-world". They actually ruled that in the case. So basically tough people like fishermen can be treated poorly because they're used to it, they actually used the phrase "hardy men-of-the-world" too. I was thinking about making up the fact Chief Justice Finlay was really into Deadliest Catch and was quoted as saying "fishermen are badass" in his ruling for maybe some humour points but I'm not sure how much of a sense of humour they have in the examinations office.
