I never have had a problem getting into my underwear.

I do. A lot of boxers have stretch bands for the waist but then the thighs are stiff fabric. :(

I finally found a brand that has stretchy thighs as well. :D And then they stopped making them.

Now I found another brand. So all's well. For now.

(eye surgery coming up soon, so I really can't manage much writing now, at least on pages with a white background).

You might like FocusWriter. It has customizable themes that can be easier on the eyes.

Hm. I see they want money upfront, no opportunity to try it for free. What I need ideally is a dark background, and a variety of fonts and the ability to make them large enough to see (my eyes are really bad right now; that surgery can't come soon enough).

No, you can set the donation amount to $0.00 in the dropdown.

The themes are very customizable:

I have FocusWriter but I haven't used it. The themes are... interesting, I suppose, but I always find myself going back to the features of Word.

I also face the issue that when I do change how the writing window looks, it annoys me and doesn't look "right" so I just change it back within 5 minutes.

I mostly like FocusWriter because you can set goals, such as 500 words a day or 15 minutes of writing. There's also a "daily progress" which shows how much you write on specific days.

My usual monospaced font of choice for writing purposes is Courier Prime. When I'm editing code and stuff I'm more likely to use Inconsolata.

I switch between Verdana and Constantia for writing. I did like Imperator quite a lot but the kerning is something awful for a lot of its characters, making it impractical.

For editing, I do either Verdana or Times New Roman.

How do you stand looking at monospaced fonts? They make my brain check out almost immediately.

I find them a bit easier to read than proportional fonts, actually.

Mono-spaced fonts make me think I'm using Word Perfect 5.1 again and that was over 20 years ago now!

I actually have a FocusWriter theme based on WordPerfect!

Unfortunately, the site that I got most of my themes from went defunct a few years ago. I can zip up the original unedited ones and send them if you want to look through.

Thanks for the kind thought, but that's not a positive recommendation from me. Give me Arial 11 pt any day instead. :)

You deserve congratulations just for the courage alone, Omega124.
I can fit in my old pants again.
Hey, I went through that a couple years ago. :high5:
After NaNoWriMo ended in November, I decided to keep going on my story. I set a goal of 30,000 words from December 1 to January 31 (the equivalent of doing two back-to-back Camp NaNoWriMo events where the required word count is smaller).

I've just completed that goal... with a word count of 35,602.

This doesn't count as a NaNoWriMo win since it's not part of an official event. It counts as a personal win, however, since I wasn't sure that I could manage to keep writing every day after just finishing one of the most stressful Novembers ever.

The story itself is far from done, though. I'm going to keep on, but without the stress of a daily word count minimum (eye surgery coming up soon, so I really can't manage much writing now, at least on pages with a white background).
Personal wins also count.

You use Open Office, right? As do I. :D

The very last icon changes the bg color, say to black. Two icons back, changes the font color, say to white. Near the left side, you can change the size of the font. I often use 16. To make viewing even easier, bold everything. :yeah:

I had a hard time finding them and realized that it only works if I "select all" to begin with, but yay, it worked!

My font is a lot larger than 16.

I'm going to continue as long as I can, but things are bad to the point where I had to ask someone to read my mail to me this afternoon.

I discovered video game history channels on Youtube and I can't get enough. It's so interesting learning about all these different consoles and games. I'm on a binge about Nintendo, from the Famicon disk drive to the 64DD. I had a subscription to Nintendo Power and I knew about and really wanted a 64DD back then. There's so many different controllers and weird game concepts that have been tried over time that are all so sweet even if they're terrible. And Sega! They really swung for the fences with the technologies they put in some of their systems even if they made major business blunders.

If you can get one, a magnifying sheet might help a bit.

Is this an eyesight problem?
