You're not supposed to pull one of them out of there.

The Brady Bunch seems a lot less chirpy when you think six children experienced the sudden death of a parent.

Thinking I might get involved in a political campaign for the first time. The voter base for a party here has halved, so the margin for leadership votes is much narrower and more impactful now. Our premier is stepping down so whoever wins the leadership race will take over, and I'm not jazzed about the current frontrunner. He talks nice but his actual results show empty, broken promises. His competition seems inexperienced, but maybe it's worth a gamble. It'd just cost $10 to become a member and then vote.

If you can spare that $10 and think it would make a difference... some of the people in my FB groups were saying they'd be willing to get a UCP membership to vote for the candidate most likely to be defeated by the NDP next May. The problem with that is that they'd still be giving money to a party of sociopathic fascists and at this point it's impossible to tell if the frontrunner will stay the frontrunner (Danielle Smith is like a female Trump, except not as wealthy) and some of the other candidates (equally as sociopathic in their own despicable ways) have banded together to stop her. I wouldn't waste my money on that, but I'm also not going to take out an NDP membership. I have never belonged to any political party since I don't want to give tacit support if they want to do something I disapprove of.

From the opening sentences I thought you'd actively campaign for someone :D

That's what it sounded like to me as well...

The good thing with having a diary is that you can instantly go 5, 10 or more years back, reading what you were doing then.
I was just observing the situation 7,5 years ago, roughly half a year before the publication of a book of mine.

Hmm... that would be the book for which you sent me the image of the front cover and I finally learned how to spell your name in Greek? I still have that PM, btw. :)

It probably won't. Honestly, the person I'm going to vote for has no chance of winning, and I'm not sure she would do a good job anyway. She uses a lot of copout language and is associated with the David Suzuki Institute. However, I have a pretty good idea what the chosen successor will do, so gambling on an unknown is a nice idea.

I did not end up applying to volunteer. I don't want to spend time during my two weeks with my girlfriend doing free work for a politician.

Any particular reason why he is roughly 10 times larger than her? :P

Hmmm. I have thought of a title for the next iteration of this thread.

Oh, I do believe that this is a challenge.
Heh, you caught me just as I'm re-reading a Harry Potter story in which a very ambitious Hermione is sorted into Slytherin and has made off with the Philosopher's Stone (she didn't realize what it was at first, thinking that it was merely a prize for solving an obstacle course), sends it to her Gringotts account manager for safekeeping (along with some money she made from selling Muggle makeup to her Slytherin housemates), and says "You know what to do with it."

She never guessed that the Goblins would know what the Stone was, shrug, and begin buying up lead and turning it into gold and adding it to her vault. Before too long, Hermione discovers that she's well on the way to becoming a millionaire and the story hasn't even reached the point where Sirius Black escapes from Azkaban...

So if Hermione can manage that, I can manage to snag naming rights over a serial thread.

I know that you've done it in the past, but it remains to be seen whether you can repeat the feat.

How does Hermione being rich make any difference to the story?

She needs money because she intends to found the House of Granger. To play politics for real means you need to be able to finance your projects.

The story is 407 chapters and counting, and I occasionally go back and re-read it (most chapters are fairly short) to remind myself of everything that happened before with certain plotlines.

One cool thing with this story is Hermione's parents... her dad is into Dungeons & Dragons, so he thinks it's great that Hermione gets to live in a castle and explore. He even sends her a dungeon exploration kit complete with rope and grappling hook, torches, and a set of lockpicks, never imagining that she'd end up using it to find the Philosopher's Stone. Not that she'd ever tell her parents just how much danger she's been in that year.

I know that you've done it in the past, but it remains to be seen whether you can repeat the feat.
I've not only done this thread, but have had a hat trick of serial threads going on at once. And one of them even contained the "f-word" in the title (the Canadian version of it).

I'd be curious as to a "leaderboard" of serial starters.. but some of the spammer ones have reached ridiculous numbers over the years. Its the low number ones that are exciting. Damned frustrated to not get the Turners News of the Weird recently.

It's just the Random ones I care about.
