If I didn't know the dates better, I'd've thought that was something by Lawrence Durrell.

Unsure why I thought of this, but when I was a kid, a rode a rollercoaster where I wasn't latched in. This was one where your feet dangle. All air underneath the seat. About 400 feet of it. I coulda fell out, but I did not.

It's unusual, but I was actually content, not frightened. I figured ok, this might be it, nothing I can do about it now, no use worrying.

I had a similar moment almost getting hit by a semi. I wasn't even the driver of the car. Spun out on ice, guy braked just in time. Similar feeling.

There is a nervousness to it, but not terror. I get frightened by a poor quality of life. Bad social experiences, dealing with people pleasantly. Those terrify me genuinely. Imminent potential death apparently does not.

I suppose it is due to a symbolic element, ie it is purely identified as "pending death". Of course in reality anyone in that situation may well end up living, but severely diminished - and that wouldn't typically be taken so calmly as it's not symbolic :)
I had a few similar experiences, in the past. Eg when I was 9 or 10, I thought a car was about to kill me (again, in reality if it had continued that way, I likely wouldn't die but be in hell).
There was a much more impressive case, when (again around the same age) I lost my step while hiking and was rapidly falling back - for a second I thought that I would die. Then a tree stopped my fall, as I landed on it with my back.
Had I continued to fall, however, death wasn't certain and serious/permanent body damage was far likelier.

We can’t switch to the metric system, how would anyone know what weight of bowling ball to use?

Translate the current weight into grams/kilograms (I have no clue how much a bowling ball weighs, since I've never even held one), and get on with the game.

Don't you people use weight-measuring devices?

^Clearly the Empire is about to fall.

The Romans are just as worthy of the stereotypes applied to barbarians.

It's not like the Romans didn't try a morale attack from time to time, and the Germanics fought in a shieldwall pretty often. Nevertheless, the Romans have a reputation for civilized styles, when in reality, as often as not the Germans were the ones wondering why the crazy short guys were so reckless with their lives.

Mass crucifixion isn't that much different then hanging your slain enemies upside down from the trees, either.

Romans usually outnumbered their enemies too. Extremely so, especially overall.

Empires claim the work of conquered peoples as thier own. It's kinda the defining feature.

I don't think so. I think on Truth, he's just Donald Trump.

capital letters might make a difference. And the image (flag superimposed over face) is from Truth not X.
