Three Rubber and five Coal are connected.

Change Steel in 9 to Scientific Methods in 7, but do not change the slider at this point in the turn.

Now to the action.

We have 8 fully healed eCavs in Kazan. They win 7 times and retreat once but nobody special appears (17 of 21, 0 of 13e).

Three Viking ships venture forth from Malmö, but they should die soon.
Two AH Arkies are 1W-1SW of Kazan.
Two Portuguesse Bombardes are 1S-1SE of Kazan.
Two stacks of 13 Dutch units each are just outside our borders due S of Karakorum.
~~~
We are also not at war with Britian and her five cities. We find the ruler of Britian and explain we find the Ministry of Silly Walks very offensive, we despise dead parrots and we think that lumberjacks are wimps. Then we declare war, while they try to find the Holy Hand Gernade of Anitoch.
Two SOTLs and one Privateer dismast two Viking Galleasses and one Ruler (?). In the process we gain a new privateer (31 of 36).
We find Göteborg (17) in the Viking fog.
Two eCavs win, one retreats and we lose a vCav before the four defenders are no more, gaining us 1 gold (35 of 42, 0 of 19e).
Spot and sink a Viking Galleass outside of Malmö (36 of 43).
Spy an Arqubusier protecting a Viking settler on a mountain across the border. Lose two Cavs and a Hussar to grab that settler, but now it cannot slink off and hide from us in some Scandanavian rowboat (37 of 47).
Kazan's eCavs get no applause as they sweep away the Arkies and Bombardes that threatened the city (41 of 51, 0 of 23e).
From Karakorum, 3 eCav pummel Dutch Pikes 2S of the city, but gain no more glory (44 of 54, 0 of 26e).
The other Dutch stack is in a forest so we leave it alone for now.
Two new supply shipments appear. An earlier one arrives in Rome.
SciMethods in 3, +505 gpt, 43876 gold.
We did not meet anyone new this turn and we are war with everyone we have met.
Thirteen Dutch units 1E-1NE fo Kazan, mostly Pikes and Maces.
Three Persian Cannons 2S of Karakorum.
Dutch Trebuchet 2SE of Karakorum.
Six vCav win 5/retreat once and Stockholm is ours, along with 16 gold (61 of 67)
We now control The Great Lighthouse.
Scientic Methods makes The Great Lighthouse obsolete.
Lose 4 vCav, two more retreat and only one wins as we fail to take Malmö from the Vikings (62 of 74).
At Kazan, 5 eCavs perish 5 Persians (67 of 79, 0 of 31 e).
From Karakorum, 4 eCavs take out the Trebuchet, Knight and two Pikes, but nothing special for them (71 of 83, 0 of 35e).
We lose 2 vCav as we dogpile on the Dutch SoD but 3 vCavs promote (82 of 95).
The remaining Portuguesse Knight is outgunned by a vCav (83 of 96).
Three Persian cannons are spiked inside Mongol borders (86 of 99).
Famous Pirate Roberts sails from Venice, looking for loot and plunder and easy pickings.
Sneak some Cav across the Mongol border but no city is revealed. Move 28 vCav from Kazan eastwards into the forest across the border. Kazan has enough units left that it won't flip.
SOTL poaches a Mayan Galleon (87 of 100).
Lawyer takes out an AH Knight and finds an AH Great Artist (88 of 101).
However, Hovd is between the Great Artist and friendly territory.
At Malmö, last known Viking city, eCav falls to vMusket (90 of 106).
eCav faces down weakened eMusket (91 of 107, 0 of 36e).
eHussar guts redlined vMusket (92 of 108, 0 of 37e).
Malmö is ours, along with 37 gold.
Good Tidings of Great Joy
1806_VikingsGoneTweaked.jpg
And the Vikings are gone.
Down south, 2 eCavs put a PanzerBlitz on the two AH Knights, which doesn't benefit either one of them (94 of 112, 0 of 39e).
We find Almalik (14), Mongolia, defended by a vRifle. Ugh, not good.
Four Rifles defended the city, we lost 3 vCav in 10 attacks, but city becomes ours (98 of 122).
We happily pocket 4051 gold from the city.
And the Hanseatic League is now ours, too.
Mongol Marine Infantry outside Almalik is tough. It retreats the first vCav, kills the second and falls to the third, which in turn promotes to Elite (99 of 125).
vRifle inside Mongol borders retreats two vCav but crumbles when the third one arrives (100 of 128).
Lose a vCav to Persian Arquebusier and Sabre Fighter inside Mongolia, looking for their next city (102 of 131).
Clear out Portuguesse Galleon at Bologna (103 of 132).
Exploring Privateer finds China and someone else.
We met Inca on the IBT.
Drop science to 30%, Scientific Methods in 1, +1727 gpt, 49152 gold.
We talk to Inca. Eight gold. Fourteen cities. Too bad.
We tell Inca that their feet stinka. Which leads to war, as we expected.
We talk to China. They know SciMethods, The Corporation and Industrialization. They have 201896 gold and 16 cities. Too bad they are so far away. But we declare war anyway.
[IBT]
And the save is attached.
wow, China sure has a lot of money :eek:
Anyway, great thing is that nobody finished Arm's Race and we are getting close. I am sure we can still insert one tech before completing it.
Kazan Area
Spoiler :
1806_KazanArea.jpg
This was the fun spot of these turns. Lots of targets and plenty of weapons. Mostly we have just stayed in the city and let our Elites do as much fighting as they can. We've recently began to move out, capturing Almalik last turn and looking for more cities. If we focus on Mongolia's eastern cities and let Austria-Hungary nibble on the western ones, we should meet in the middle. And bump into Persia and Netherlands along the way, too.
We had only one serious threat and that was when the Dutch sent 26 units our way. The next biggest threat was one Persian stack of 5 and a bunch of onesies and twosies.
Around Almalik we have at least 40 and maybe 50 Cavalry.
Great Artist
Spoiler :
1806_GreatArtist.jpg
We were lucky enough to gain a Great Artist. Now we have to get him home. If he stays in the mountains he should be okay.
Random Stuff
Many units are on auto move from the prior turnset. They are mostly Calvary and MusketMen, heading from NW to SE. They seem to be headed for Piraeus and then they can be moved by hand towards Karakorum and Kazan.
The coastal road from Athens to Ulaanbaatar is at times hard to see with this terrain. Please note that the hills 1NW and 1SW of Sparta are not roaded. We have some workers nearby that can fix that, but until then be careful.
I have some units on automove from Karakorum to Almalik; my bad, I thought they had more movement. They were going to Almalik to help quiet the upset natives of the city.
Vikings are dead.
We picked up two great wonders, The Great Lighthouse and Hanseatic League. The extra movement granted by The Great Lighthouse expires when Scientific Methods are known, so its affects were fleeting. The Hanseatic League is another matter. It's affects do not expire. It looks like it adds one commerce to every tile worked in the city where it is built. It also adds a Kontor in each city on its continent, which adds 50% to tax output.
Scientific Method comes in this IBT and Steel should follow it. Steel lets us build Workers.
Remember, Battlefield Medicine, being built in Rome, is a prebuild for Arms Race, which becomes available with SciMethods. Germany and America are already building this wonder, in Berlin and Washington, so we may not get it.
Steam Power lets workers get things done quicker, but I could not always see that in action.
Both of our settlers are fortfied 1SE of Rome.
I had horrible luck with Elites. We have plenty of them. But in 39 Elite victories we had 0 MGLs. Zippo. Nada. Less than one. :cry:
We met China and Inca and declared war on them. At some point in the past we met Poland and Britian and had not declared war. That has been fixed.
China has over 200K in gold. I thought we were doing good with 49K.
Kazan, Karakorum and several Viking cities have only taxmen in them. They have been on a starvation diet the last few turns. For the former Viking cities that can probably end rather soon, but Kazan and Karakorum need to starve until the Mongols are dead.
It is hard to realize you have met a new nation, unless you check F4 or CAII. The colors are similar with this many and you tend to be focus on combat.
Over 200k, that seems odd. Leaders are a streaky thing. My last two sets combined for 1, while I had 9 in the prior two sets.
If it wasn't for the hours of fun we (me, my wife and others) had playing their Civilization I'm not sure I would have tried a computer version. This game on the PC just doesn't interest my wife any at all. And I'm not sure if that is a bad thing or not. At least we don't fight over the game disc!
We still have Civ and Advanced Civ, as well as Merchant of Venus, but now we play a lot of Settlers of Catan when we have game nights.
Happy Seasons greetings to all.
Hey, you're son's a mod. :D
M60A3TTS, any updates?
On the last turn now but too late to finish and post up the info. We did win the arms race. As strange as it sounds, I have about 20 cav less than when I started, but that was mainly due to the attrition of desert and sea warfare. At the same time I've been building a lot of production improvements, i.e. steam power and light industry so there haven't been a slew of units coming off the assembly lines.
However we do have 273 new workers. :D
1807AD (1)
With cav:
Kill
Persian immortal, arque
3 Hungarian knights, 2 arques, longsword, cat ship
Mongol 2 rifles, firelancer, marine inf
Dutch pike, knight
Portugese arque
Lose
1 cav of 299 in stock, so not bad
IBT- Lose 2 cav to Mongols
1808AD (2)
Lose 6 cav, kill 5 Mongol rifles and capital of Tabriz taken. Drop 2 more Mongol rifles after that.
Kill Mongol rifle at Hovd
Upgrade 105 muskets to rifles for 3150 gold.
Steam engines are in production for all cities except Rome that generate 20+ spt. Short rush a few cities so that all will complete in 1-2 turns.
IBT-
Chinese zeppelin attacks our privateer
Lose 4 cav
Atlanta, USA finishes Blue Riband
Get that rare bug where ships think they’re land units. 3 galleass’ attack Anjar but redline.
1809AD (3)
Lose 2 cav but kill 3-4 Mongol rifles. Collect about 5k gold and Dalanzadgad is ours.
Oooh, ship discovers London defended by spearman. The Land that Time Forgot…
IBT- Lose a couple more units on the front line.
1810AD (4)
Cavalry kill 3 Mongol rifles without loss. Finally a favorable RNG. Hovd falls
IBT- Lose 3 cav. Steel> Compound steam engine. Our people want to build the Industrial Core Center. We win the Arms Race get Compound Steam Engine. Then take industrialization. Switch high production cities to railyard and rush a bunch of projects so we can start up some workers. Corporation in 4.
1811AD (5)
Rome has its first railed tile.
IBT- Naval bombardment
1812AD (6)
Change my mind about railyards and short rush hospitals for light industry that give better production. We are now at 34 workers.
IBT- Aztecs building Wall Street
1813AD (7)
Finally get an MGL, Trajan after losing a couple more cav. Now 79 workers.
IBT- Lose a couple more cav
1814AD (8)
Railing continues. Attack several Persian, Dutch and Hungarian units across the desert. Now 119 workers.
IBT- Corp> Chemical industry in 4.
1815AD (9)
Kill a pair of pikes and Groningen falls. Now 167 workers. A work force has roaded its way through the western mountain range and cav is sent through.
IBT- Lose 1 boat and 4 cav on the IBT as the Persian cav mix it up with us.
1816AD (10)
MGL Trajan arrives in Verona. He can build the industrial core center once he gets to Rome and it finishes railyard. Kill 4 pikes in Amsterdam and the Dutch capital goes down. Now 206 workers plus captured ones gives us adequate railing ability. Move cavalry stacks up through the western mountains and done.
Post turn.
I did skimp some on the turn log, listing each casualty after a while, but all the important stuff is below.
We now have a rail line from Rome past Moscow. With the workers there and within a turn of the rail line we should be connected to Verona then with the ability to do at least 11 tiles per turn. That should mean in about 4 turns we’ll be all the way to the front lines.
The rail line
Spoiler :
RometoMoscow.jpg
50469 gold in the bank, losing 205 per turn on account of all the new workers. And a lot more are in the pipeline, so any time we want to stop, we can.
3 turns to Chemical Industry, then we can build a Zeppelin fleet to scout out all the fog to our front and do some bombardment.
We have 11 cities at 40 or more spt and more coming for cav/ and soon zeppelins every 2 turns. I made use of short rushes for production enhancements just to get them done. But as you can see even spending the gold on that, still plenty of loot even after rushing extra workers which are cheap.
In terms of tech, I’d go back and do nationalism>fascism next. That gives workers 150% efficiency and the National Work Service is another cheap 25% productivity boost. Although some may consider it overkill at this point, and slight pop loss if we do. Still the worker boost would be real nice. Running through techs now every 4 turns with ease, although we are still behind the Chinese, as evidenced by the fact we were hit by their zeppelin on turn 2 IBT. Since we can’t trade techs, there is no telling how far along they are except by the units that appear, or the wonders under construction.
There is a large 44 cav stack at Groningen. Another big stack has full movement at Tabriz. Finally a stack in the mountains southwest of Hovd. Persia w/16 cities, Dutch w/4 cities and Austria-Hungary w/20 cities is to the front. Military progress was scaled back on purpose to give us the opportunity to get city builds done and the worker force generated.
The front line
Spoiler :
TheFront.jpg
There are a lot of unguarded workers deep in our territory building that rail line. I’ve seen no evidence that the AI spends its time going deep with stealth units. The ones closer to the front lines are covered. Next up can cover those in back if you want, I didn’t see the need. It takes a while to bring the workers up to the rail line which has made them a tad inefficient, but we do need the line to the front. Then rail the core of course for even more production.
The power graph shows us having leveled off this set, but that’s just the calm before the storm.
wow, that's a lot of workers, I think considering the gpt we pay, maybe that's sufficient for now.
Great job on getting Arm's Race and getting us a little back in the tech race. Once we cleared our continent, we have to go after China. Now with rails we should be able to make faster progress.
I wouldn't change to fascism, but go for lancias and early tanks before anything else.
As for governments, besides that population loss we get from any change, we would have to rebuild all barracks to be able to have regular units again.
Doesn't really seem too enticing. The culture issue is another thing, only worker productivity and units support seem to be a plus.
Looking good. I would agree we probably do not want to manage very many more workers than we have now, let alone pay for them. We will need those ealry tanks for sure. We also need a lot of ships.
