IBT: Hittite MDI easily kills a Pike. Greeks are getting serious, land 2 Knights on a forest at Iron Island…..this might be a problem.
Ulundi Trebuchet=>Mace.

Turn 1, 1010 AD: Lose Horse to a redlined Hittite Mace, kill another Mace but Sword exposed. Lose 1 Mace, win with another and a Horse, defeating the Knights. At this rate, we are losing. Without leaders, this is getting rougher.

IBT: Maces slaughter Pikes……every damn time. Lose another Pike to a Hittite Mace. Hittites can’t be destroyed now, they land a Settler on a 1-tile island.

Turn 2, 1020 AD: Retreat all units in Hittite lands.
Finally get rid of the Greek nits on Iron island.

IBT: Hittite Mace, Crusader and Longbow step up to Hattusas.
Lots of boats moving.
Bapedi Pikeman=>Horseman.
Hlobane Mace=>Mace.
New Bapedi Harbor=>Galley.

Turn 3, 1030 AD: Lose a Mace, kill the Hittite Stack.

IBT: Greek Galley easily sinks ours.
Egypt lands an Archer on Iron Island.
Utica Trebuchet=> Mace.
Intombe Galley=>Galley.
Mpondo Redux Galley=>Trebuchet.

Turn 4, 1040 AD: Redline the Egyptian Archer, attack him with an eHorse, and we finally have a leader! I think we need an army in Hittite lands most. Create a 1 unit Mace army, load him on a Galley.

IBT: Hittites gathering another stack.
Boats mill around.
Zimbabwe Mace=>Mace.
Mpondo Trebuchet=> Trebuchet.

Turn 5, 1050 AD: Get our new army halfway across our main island.

IBT: 4 Hittite Maces step up to attack Hattusas.
Ulundi Mace=> Pikeman.

Turn 6, 1060 AD: Ping 4 Maces 5 times. vMace wins, -2hp.
eSword wins -3hp. eSword wins -3hp. Leave the last to retreat so I don’t leave anyone exposed. Send army, 2 Maces and a trebuchet over to Hittite Lands.

IBT: Greek Galleys seem interested in our north.
1 Hittite Mace steps up to Hattusas.
Isandlhwana riots.
Isles End Walls=>Impi.

Turn 7, 1070 AD: Fill up 1st Maces, move them toward Ugarit, guarded by a Musket. Redline the Mace near Hattusas

IBT: Greek Galleys advance….this means trouble if they land up north.
Hlobane Mace=>Mace.
Tugela riots.

Turn 8, 1080 AD: Army loses 5 hp killing a lousy rMusket.
Try to pig Greek Galleys, miss.

IBT: Oh crap, a Caravel lands 2 ACs and a Knight at Zunguin.
Intombe Galley=>Mace.
Umfolozi Settler=>Settler

Turn 9, 1090 AD: All I can do is move some Impis and try to defend.
Redline and kill a Longbow at Hattusas.

IBT: We survived! Knight loses, AC wins, AC loses.
2 Maces step up to Hattusas.
Invention researched, next is Gunpowder?
Zimbabwe Mace=>Aqueduct
Ulundi Pikeman=>Mace.

Turn 10, 1100 AD: The 2hp AC retreats off an Archer, dies to a Horseman.

Preturn- We’re at zero science losing 3 gold a turn. That kind of math won't work, even though with all the scientists, invention isn't that far away. I think the issue is that getting to Mil Trad would take about as long for us to self-research as capturing the GLib. It is a challenge to figure out what to do with this game. I suggested the importance of reinforcing the island with our iron source, but that hasn’t happened. Our mace army has zero artillery support.

I am going to merge some workers. We can’t afford twenty of them for the return we get on some improved tiles. Intombe was building a MI without a rax. :shake: Get rid of the aqueduct build in Zimbabwe and start treb. Go single scientist and pour on the taxmen to get some gold.

IBT- Greek caravel sinks galley off Bapedi, but gets redlined in the process.

1110AD- Galley sinks the redlined Greek caravel. Sword kills red Hittite mace. Two more maces are killed by mace army and solo mace. Elite sword kills a 4th Hittite mace. All scientists go to taxmen.

1120AD- nothing

1140AD- Killed a Korean LB landed at Swazi. MI army kills crusader. Greeks start Magellans.

1150AD- Mace kills Hittite crusader. Founded town of Wanabe on Hittite lands.

IBT- Greeks land cavalry outside Hattusha.

1170AD- Bump off a crusader at Wanabe. Army kills a Hittite mace there as well.

1190AD- Lose a sword, but kill 2 Greek knights and two Hittite MI. Greeks land 2 cav at Ibabanago and start Bachs.

1200AD- Kill another Hittite MI at Hattusha. Kill Greek cav and knight, and 2 Hittite MI near Wanabe. At Imbabango wound one Greek cav. Hlobane starts HE as I just realized it was not started once we got the first army. Gunpowder in 40 and done.

Post turn: Primarily for TheOverseer714, we fundamentally disagree on the Glib strategy. I believe we can and should take it and not spend our gold on self-research. We are going to need that gold for research and possible upgrades later.

Right now what we need is patience, and that may seem crazy in light that the Greeks have cav. But we have to get our homeland forces and iron island up to snuff first. We are very vulnerable at the moment to any sort of mounted landing near the southern tundra towns. The count of MI and trebs are getting up there bit by bit, and I think we need another 10 turns of military buildup which should get us over the hump. I brought a couple units over to Hittite land, but that was it. The army and other units are holding their own pretty well.

Ibabango has those two Greek cav to deal with in the next turn or so. I left a few units with movement for ThERat. I think the casualty count was about 18-2. so we did ok in that department.

Oh, I agree that we need the GLib, I just hate not researching while we fall farther behind. The GLib will fix some of our problems, but we still have such lousy income that fielding a decent army is difficult. I wonder if our one army should make a beeline for the GLib city, and take it ASAP, rather than slowly take city by city. The GLib is the key to victory, so just because I was doing research didn't mean I didn't want it captured by us. I know I should have started the HE sooner, but our losses meant we needed replacement units. I see our MGL luck is still awful, hopefully that improves soon, as we'll need Cavalry armies to win this.

agree with the Glib plan.

Got it

I played 5 turns so far as time's a bit tight this week. The game is tough, our army is next to the Glib city but the Greeks are landing cavalry all over the place and might soon take us out...I think the start is simply too miserable to be feasible

Pre-Turn
take out a Greek Cav with a mace

IT we lose a pike

1. 1210AD
take out a spear at Alaya Huyuk

IT more Cavs are landed on our iron Island, this could potentially get dicey

2. 1220AD
trying to keep our act together, bombard the wounded Cav and pull catapults in position for the next batch of 2 cavs + knight
take out another spear and we won Alaca Huyuk

defeat 3 Hittite units and our army steps next to Hattusas

IT Greek units advance as expected

3. 1230AD
bombard and take out both cavalry
take out a third red cav but need to leave a healthy knight alone

rest army as it is not fully healed

IT we lose an exposed mace to the knight and Greek land 2 cavs in Hittite land

4. 1240AD
take out the knight, wound the Cavs and take them out as well
pillage around the capital

IT Now the Greeks land a cav in our south where we have nothing to defend

5. 1250AD
start to attack the capital, we need the Glib if we want to survive
take out 2 muskets

yellow the cav and barely take it out

6. 1255AD
no landings this time, we can heal the army and consolidate a bit

7. 1260AD
our units support is going higher again and we will get into trouble
defeat 3 Hittite units in the field

8. 1265AD
defeat 2 landed units, again no leader
defeat 2 muskets in Hattusas

IT 2 Greek cavs land again and we lose a mace

9. 1270AD
bombard the cavs but not very successful, they might attack
take out a LB but no leader

IT both cavs run away but 2 more land on our homeland
man man

10. 1275AD
retreat 2 cavs and take out one, take out another unit, defeat 2 muskets in Hattusas

WE need to try to take capture the capital and then maybe make a stunning comeback somehow. Pillaging the enemy countries is a good idea, we need to get the Glib first though.

<Lurker> Great game, you guys. A nice struggle from a very difficult terrain start. I'll be watching to see if you can hold out from the Greek nightmare.

Preturn: Looks pretty good

IBT: We lose a Sword to a 1 hp Cav. Another Cav landing.

1280 AD: Kill 1 hp Cav. Bombard and kill other Cav - We gain another leader!

1285 AD: Kill some units; going after Hittite town behind our lines as it is getting annoying for us.

IBT: Nasty landing near New Isandhlwana comes too soon - the road isn't finished.

1290 AD: New Isandhlwana abandoned.

1295 AD: Capture Emar the Hittite city behind us. Can now use both Armies for GLib.
Kill 2 more Muskets in Hattusas, Kill both landed Greek Cav near New Isandhlwana.

1300 AD: Capture Hattusas - army is red however!!!! Have to sacrifice a E* Sword to kill a MDI near it. Also get a 3rd Army!!!

IBT: Gain Literature, Republic, Monotheism, Theology, Chivalry, Printing Press, Education, Banking, Astronomy, Chemistry, Navigation, Metallurgy, Mil Trad. We should build the Mil Acad and Pentagon. Cav Landing on mainland. 2 Greek Cav and Archer landing on Iron island. We get a Crusader.

We have Saltpeter not connected.

1305 AD: Kill Cav on main island. Only Greeks have Physics. Other Civs only have Music Theory above us.

IBT: Greeks are building Newtons. I guess they just got Physics.

1310 AD: Kill 2 Cav and Archer. Send settler to resettle abandoned town. I am building Infrastructure because I think we need it.

IBT: We complete the Heroic Epic.

1315 AD: Hittites have another Lux we can go for. Also looking for their Saltpeter to cut it. Some unit disbands to speed key projects and reduce our high unit costs.

IBT: Two more Cav from the Greeks.

1320 AD: Another Greek incursion destroyed.

IBT: Quiet

1325 AD: Exploring Hittite territory. Source of Saltpeter remains a mystery.
Connect our Saltpeter. Capitol can start first Cav after Market completes.

Notes:
We really need Infrastructure and not more units at the moment. Let the Armies deal with the Hittites while we finish aquaducts, Markets and probably Libraries.

I kept 1 army at 2 units for now, but a third could be added. I don't think we need the Pentagon because 4 units makes the Army stuck for a very long time.

We will want a domination win as there is a size 1 island.

The third Lux on the Hittite island will give us +2 happy with Markets, which will really help.

I think we can win this game. The 3 Armies and approaching Industrial means we can be strong in time. The Hittites also can be taken out now.

I kept Hattusas for the Crusaders rather than the GLib which we have used. We need barracks there though.

Feel free to bring the Armies together for city attacks. I was partially exploring in the hopes of cutting the Saltpeter. I also didn't quite mean to send all the Cats and Trebs with the army they are with. Some should be on defense. A mismove on my part.

See my post in Owns SG.

TheOverseer714, best wishes for a full recovery. Must be a very difficult thing to go through.
Hope to hear a positive update in the near future.

Got it.

I am sorry to hear this and hope you get a speedy recovery, TheOverseer714. Civilization is a great game, but there are things more important than that.

Will you guys build libraries and do more research, or forget about libraries, and just buy more armies?

1325AD- Preturn ok, but I’m taking the settler to the other continent.

IBT- MI at Hattusas gets knocked off by LB

1330AD- Kill LB at Hattusas. Kill 2 muskets and Tyrana falls. A bit late to bring this up, but I am playing with the no-raze patch. Kill musket at Aleppo, but too much damage to risk attacking next musket.

IBT- Egypt lands an MI at Tyranna

1335AD- Kill the MI at Tyranna

IBT- Quiet

1340AD- Cats knock an HP off 2 muskets. Army takes Harran

IBT- Lose a forted crusader to a Hittite MI due to carelessness.

1345AD- Crusader kills the MI.

IBT- Quiet

1350AD- Adana falls to MI army

IBT- A galley sinks an attacking Greek frigate. That galley skipper is an admiral now!

1355AD- Sell off market and raze and replace Adana.

IBT- Hattusas flips. Well it was bound to happen… Greece lands 2 cav at Ngome

1360AD- 2 MI armies kill 2 muskets and a LB and capture Tarsus. Kill 1 Greek cav but lose an elite archer. Cav has 2hp. Sacrifice the last crusader, but can’t take Hattusas back.

IBT- Greek cav kill an Impi by Ngome. 2 Egyptian MI land at Tarsus

1365AD- Kill the last Greek cav and the two MI at Tarsus

IBT- Quiet

1370AD- The armies have to heal now. We get our first cav.

IBT- Wondermania. Greek city of Delphi completes Magellan’s. Thebes finishes Bach’s. Seoul finishes Netwons. Egypt drops off an MI at Rebirth

1375AD- Move two armies next to Hattusas. Kill the Egyptian MI at Rebirth. Drop off a fresh settler at Hattusha. Physics in 1 and done.

Post turn- The game is manageable, but to a point Greebley made earlier, yes we kind of do need more troops. Three armies are great as they can conquer any Hittite city, but they can’t respond to every coastal landing and cultural flip at the same time. I think about half a dozen cav should do it over in Hittiteville. They should be able to act as a fire brigade or two. Then the armies are free to do their thing. Forest chopping continues in the homeland.
