RBC13H - Middle Ages - Angry Abbasids (Demigod)

I've got it.

It sounds like my marching orders are to:

1. Get defenders to our new Turkish Cities
2. Upgrade spears to Pikes
3. Set up to launch an attack against the Byzantines.

I will try an develop a campaign strategy and set up Kabuki. Any inputs are welcome. I will spend some time studying the situation and investigate some cities.

Pre-flight – 1227 AD – The Byzantines have too many cities to just do a conquest. I think I will first figure out where the kings are located and then The kings start out in Ancyra, Constantinople, and Athens. I’ll start my city investigations there. I investigate Ancyra for 132G and here it is:
Ancyra_Investigation.jpg

There is one king. Here is the Athens investigation costing 79G showing the other king:
Athens_Investigation.jpg

I won’t investigate Constatinople. I’m sure Theodora is there.

I can sell Polearms to Theodora for 141 GPT and Intelligence Operations. Of course the CFC forum is down so I can’t post to the team.

Team!! Do we want to lock ourselves into a 20 turn deal making a ton of money? I will wait about four hours to get feedback.

Pre-flight (con’t) – MM Jerusalem to get Byz Med five turns quicker.

from Yoshi Do you think we can win without taking on the Byzantine? Or are we at risk from their attacks? If the answers are Yes and No go ahead, if you can bankrupt the Byzantine so much the better.

I don’t think we can win without taking on the Byzantines. However, if we keep an eye on the Byzantine point total, and they start to move ahead within the 20 turns we can start a limited war with the Fatimids. In order to strike a knock out blow on the Byzantines, we really need some transports. It will take about that long to get a fleet up, and the extra money will help with galley upgrades and build rushes.

So here is the plan: Execute the trade. Build military, build navy. Monitor Byz VP total.

Change Medina to a Curragh. Execute trade with Theodora. Polearms for Intel, WM, 7g & 141 GPT. That gives our economy a very nice bump. We push science to 100%. Theology in 9 at 144 gpt. I figure Theology then Seafaring.

Hurry Medina’s curragh for 48G.

Aaaah! We don’t have a harbor. That will be the next build.
IBT – Ghuzz: Temple=> Town Hall
Medina: Curragh=> Curragh (we can’t build a harbor yet.)
Tyre: Monastery=>Intel Agency
Sidon: Manor => Spy
New Acre: Town Hall=> Spy
Franks are building Knights Templar

1. 1230 AD – Much maneuvering. Found Kabuki Basra. Byzantines’ VP 12310.

IBT – Theodora demands 71G and TM from us. Sure…this time.
Iznik riots as resistance ends.

2. 1233 AD – More Maneuvering. Rush the curragh for 68G. I’m trying to get some units from our northern half to our southern half.

IBT : Norway wants to talk. Early Siegecraft for your WM. You funny guy! :lol:
It is looking like we may be sneak attacked by Theodora. Theodora also demands that we leave.
Baghdad, Alexandria: Monastery=> AW
Sidon: Spy=> AW
Hatin: Library=> Pike
Medina: Curragh=> curragh
New Damascus: Manor=> AW
New Mosul: Temple=> AW

3. 1236 AD – Science down 10%. I think things are going to get hot very quickly. I change Tyre to a AW. I also rush a few small projects in productive towns so I can start on military.

IBT – The Fatimids have three settler pairs in our lands. Castile wants to talk. Medieval Combat for WM. You funny lady. Byzantines move about two dozen units into our lands.
Tyre: AW=> AW
Antioch, Basra, Aleppo, Gaza: Manor=> AW
Rubber Basra: Library=> Cat

SITREP:
RBC13H_-_Sneak_Attack.jpg

4. 1239 AD – We WILL be attacked next turn. There is no way those 21 Cataphracts are just out for a ride in the country. So let’s take the intiative here and start a dogpile.

First, I demand that Theodora removes her troops. Sure enough she declares war. Dial up the Bulgars. We don’t have an embassy with them. Spend 71G establishing an embassy. While I’m at it I spend 99G for an embassy with the Maygars.

Here are those two screenshots:

Bulgar:
RBC13H_-_Bulgar_Embassy.jpg

Maygar:
RBC13H_-_Maygar_Embassy.jpg

4. 1239 AD (con’t) Bring the Bulgars into a MA for Dyes.
For spices and Dyes, I bring the Maygars into the War.
And since there are a bunch of Kievan Rus units walking around in former Turkish lands, I dial up Alexander’s grandson. For Spices and Dyes I bring the Kievan Rus into the War.

Use an Assassin to kill the spear escorting a settler.

@ Prilep: 13/13 Protectors of Heaven kill a 3/3 Pike then a 2/2 Pike without loss
4/4 AW kills 2/2 Pike (-1hp) The city falls.

@ Antioch: 4/4 Assassin kills 4/4 Cataphract.
Move The Chosen Ones into the city
4/4 AW killed by 4/4 Cataphract (redlined)

Upgrade a warrior in Tyre for 90G. And two more in Hatin.

Tyre will survive next turn. Antioch will be touch and go. Hopefully our allies can draw some of these units northwest. I draft a pike in Antioch so that we now have six defenders. There are five healthy units and one redlined units within striking distance of the city. We are now at 20080 VP and the Byzantines are at 12420.

Drop science to 70% to keep the budget positive.

War happiness allows us to fire all specialists. Hurry an AW in Sidon.

IBT – Sweden demands spices. If I didn’t have my hands full of Byzantines, I’d tell the punk to stuff it, but I give in. At Hatin we kill five attackers but the city falls.

@ Tyre, we go 1 for 2.
The Germans destroyed the Franks.
Sidon: AW=> AW
New Hatin: TH=> Pike

5. 1242 AD - @ Bolu: 14/14 Army of Allah kills 4/4 Pike (-4 hp) then kills another (-5hp) I move it out of Byz territory onto another mountain to heal.

Upgrade three spears.

Use an assassin to knock off another Byz settler pair.

I’m going to pass this game on here. Turns are really starting to take a long time.

After Action Report: The situation at Tyre is desperate. There are 15 units in the surrounding hills. We have three defenders. We can probably get a few more defenders there, but I will leave that call with the next player. I have several units fortified in nearby towns.

Our northern force is almost to the front. It may not be in time to save Tyre.

VPS: US – 20240 Byz – 13830

Well? If you like to prolong the suspence...you've managed to succeed! :p
(This round must have really wiped him out!)

It is the warm summer of 1242 AD and the Abbasids are under attack from the Queen of Darkness: Theodora the Heretic. The warriors of Allah have crushed the foolish Turks, but in return for growing so powerful the vicious Theodora betrayed us and Hatin has already fallen. It is in these dark times that a young man, son of a brilliant if weak sheepherder comes to the fore. He fought bravely with the armies in the East and is given command of the defence of the empire after the previous general slinks off to Cordova as a common trader to escape the wrath of those with families in Hatin.

Kabuki the III is not an experienced man, but he is clever and he understood the path upon which his father set the country and so he analyses the situation and makes plans. First he looks at the flaws of the previous generals:

1. The unit mix that was established by the historical rulers of the Abbasids was one meant for aggressive counterattacks, and not defence. There is no reason having an Assassin guard the walls of a city, it is not his role. Thus it seems like units have been misused and lost for this reason.

2. We are horribly overextended. We wrap around the Byzantine, giving them interior lines of communication, something that is only partially compensated for with our units’ greater speed. We were designed for limited wars with small amounts of captures and we have no way to hold our Eastern flank against a concerted attack.

3. The previous general left no units with movement. Thus I was entirely reliant on a plan that was not recognized… and some of those units were left in very exposed positions and it would cost us dearly.

4. With no Turks anywhere resisters can be happily starved, rather than be allowed to mess up our drafting system.

5. Our economy is in the dumps, and I don’t know where it went. And I’ll need Theology to make it work again. Hopefully I can scrape by without the ability to rush anything for a while.

The Northern Invasion:

RBC13H_-_1242AD_-_Under_Attack.JPG

Thus Kabuki the third calls up the reserves and clear out all the defenders in the East. If we are to have nay chance we need to concentrate our local forces. All temples in Turkey are switched to Spies, our only cheap defender.

Wake up units all over the place – All assassins and Ansars are sent to the front, it doesn’t matter of they are MPs or whatever, if they are not in a position to counter attack they are in the wrong place.

At this point the beach vendor (it’s a lovely clothing optional beach five minutes from my dorm) comes over and I have the opportunity to pick up a beer. Excellent, I am enjoying the beach, the weather, the beer and a thorny mental puzzle. Life is truly good some days.

I start the draft. It is the only way we are going to have a chance, damn the riots and tax men we are going to need. Any city that can afford the production loss is gets a draftee or two. Sidon, Tyre, Acre, Gaza and Jerusalem all draft two pikes (this does raise the time taken on Byzantine Medicine by two turns, but we won’t be fighting in enemy territory any time soon). New Mosul, Aleppo, Antioch and Alexandria all draft one. New Antioch is changed to Ansar from Aqueduct and New Baghdad is changed from Library to Pike. Baghdad is on starvation diet to keep production up while still allowing it to be happy. Oh, and war unhappiness from the Byzantine kicked in with the fall of Hatin…

Start the long process of shuffling units to the front. Because of the shuffling two pikes up in Baghdad and I can get it back to Ansar in one turn and no starving, whoohoo!

Kabuki, having set up a proper economy for defence… mmm… right, no economy, just units and prayers decides it is time to show the stinking infidels what the Abbasids are made of.

TIME TO ATTACK! None of this sitting around waiting for them to crush us, hurt them first.

An Assassin from New Damascus is sent out to take care of the Cataphract furthest south in our lands. It does so and is covered with a spear. A Veteran Ansar clashes with an injured veteran Cataphract, looses two and is covered with a conscripted pike. An Assassin tries to kill a Cataphract and fails, after injuring it severely. The Chosen Ones destroy two heavily injured Cataphracts (elite and veteran), but in the process looses 6 or 7.

In total there are 32 units attacking us, of which one is a spear and one is a Medieval Infantry.

It was getting chilly at the beach after about an hour or so, so I head home where I can focus more on the diplomacy etc. I take a break and find the proper music… some Warren Zevon will do nicely (Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner is always a good choice). And once the play list is fixed I get back to it.

First I go over the diplomacy:
Trade a couple of contacts to the Poles for WM and 14g (yes we are that desperate).
Medieval Combat to Sweden for Fur and 50g
Give Chivalry to the Magyar so that they can fight better.
Spice to the Bulgars for 5gpt and 70g

Back to combat:
Near Antalya a Veteran Ansar defeats a veteran Spear, loosing 1, and captures a catapult.

Near Tyre:
V. Ansar from New Baghdad vs. V. Cataphract on mountain – W/-1
V. Ansar vs. V. Cataphract – W/-3 => New Damascus
V. Ansar vs. V. Cataphract – Retreats Cat

I then rush a Pike in Tyre.

Theology in 5 @ -5gpt w/34g

I say my prayers… a lot of them.

IBT:
Burgundy declares war on us (ran into an assassin) – whatever.

The Byzantine throw what they have at our defences and we get the following results:
We redline 3, Kill 3 and get one promotion… that is the good news.
We loose 3 conscript pikes, 1 assassin, 1 crusader and 6 Ansar. (4 of those could have been avoided if the stack of Ansars next to New Damascus had been one square further S or SE). We also loose Tyre, I had no hopes of holding, but we did ok in the defence.

England complete Knights Templar (We switch to Palace for Notre Dame)

Turn 1 – 1245AD

The worst shock assault was over, the news was grim, but there was good news: All of the Ansar from the back lines will reach the front to hit overextended Byzantine units. Conscripted defenders will also bolster the weak front-line defences, we just pray that they will make it in time.

Production:
Baghdad: Ansar -> Ansar
Prilep Riots (It is a Byzantine city after all).
New Antioch: Ansar -> Ansar
New Baghdad: Pike -> Pike

Our counters:
New Antioch – The Protectors defeat two cataphracts loosing 3. Three Ansar win, but are wounded.
Near Kabuki Basra – An assassin defeats a Burgundy sword. We also pillage a key road tile in Byzantine lands.
Antioch – An Ansar Warrior defeats a cataphract.

Draft two pikemen in Basra and one in New Damascus which has the unfortunate distinction of being one of our two cities which can be hit without first stopping inside our borders (the other is New Baghdad).

IBT – The Byzantine shift their cataphracts to the west (toward Antioch), and they show up with an infantry SOD in the East.

Turn 2 – 1248AD
New Antioch expands its borders.
VP 20960 vs. 14970
Basra: Catapult -> Pikes
Aleppo: Town Hall -> Temple

The Fronts:

North:
RBC13H_-_1248AD_-_Northern_Front.JPG

East:
RBC13H_-_1248AD_-_Eastern_Front.JPG

Attacks:
Ani -Our lone Southern Ansar attacks Ani and beats the first spear, loosing 1.
New Damascus – The Protectors defeat three cataphracts sitting on the mountains to the northeast in a beautiful charge – and some of the survivors are promoted. A single Ansar defeats another cataphract on the mountain. Only two cataphracts remain in striking distance of the city.
New Antioch – Loose an Ansar before destroying the Cataphract with the second.

Note: Unless I specify, all units are retreating back into cities or beyond cities after their attacks.

Trade: Sell our WM for gold and send horses to the Magyar. We need the Magyar!

IBT – The Magyar SOD are taking on the Byzantine infantry SOD. It is an unequal exchange that the Byzantine get the better of, but they can’t afford to loose troops.

We defeat two Cataphracts and retreat two as they go up against our pike and spear in New Antioch and New Baghdad.

Turn 3 – 1251
Antioch: Ansar -> Ansar
Alexandria: Ansar -> Ansar
Acre: Smith -> Ansar
New Jerusalem: Aqueduct -> Pike
New Mosul: Ansar -> Ansar
New Medina: Aqueduct -> Manor

Attacks:
At Ani our Ansar defeats their last spear and razes the city.
Antioch – An Ansar defeats a Cataphract.
New Damascus – An Elite and a veteran Ansar defeat a cataphract and a spear.
New Antioch – The Chosen (from Antioch) defeat a cataphract on the mountain.
Four veteran Ansar hit the infidels, three of them make it back.

4 Cataphracts can hit us.
VPs: 21555 vs. 15340

Turn 4 – 1254 AD
Baghdad: Ansar -> Ansar
Samaria: Library -> Smith
New Acre: Spy -> Pike
Bugsy Basra: Town Hall -> Granary

The North:
RBC13H_-_1254AD_-_Northern_Front.JPG

Attacks:
New Baghdad – Our sword wins as do one of our Ansar, another looses before the Chosen kill another two Cataphracts.
Antioch – An Ansar defeats a spy (-3), our crusader defeats a cataphract (-3) and an assassin bites it to another Cataphract (-3). A veteran pike covers the crusader.

VP 21920 vs. 15650

IBT: The Magyar capture Antalya. Byzantine vs. New Damascus we win three, only one retreats. Byzantine vs. New Antioch – we win one. Byzantine vs. New Baghdad – we win one.

Turn 5 – 1257AD
Theology comes in and science is set to Invention.
Medina: Curragh -> Pike
New Sidon: Aqueduct -> Smith

Finally I realize what I should have been doing and switch New Antioch and New Baghdad to walls.

The Front:
RBC13H_-_1257AD_-_Northern_Front.JPG

Attacks:
New Antioch – Two ansars defeat a pair of spears and promote (-3), our assassin beats a sword and one of our ansars retreats from a spear.
New Baghdad – Our sword defeats a spear, The Chosen defeat a MDI and a spear while the Protectors defeat two spear.
New Damascus – Two ansar defeat a spear and a pike, our assassin dies to their spy, our injured (1/4) ansar kills an injured (1/4) cataphract and one of our pikes take out their spy, promoting.

Trades:
Cordova traded with the Byzantine last turn (seafaring for Divine Right).
Set our research to min sci.
Cordova: Theology, Dye, WM, ROP (4gpt) and 26gpt gets us Divine Right and Seafaring.
Bulgars: Intelligence Operations gets us 2gpt, 68g and WM

Damascus is switched to Notre Dame

IBT – The Magyars take Bolu, Burgundy starts a fight with Cordova and Cordova starts on Notre Dame. The Byzantine also throw an archer at one of our fortified spears and dies. They follow it up by shifting all their troops to our western flank (near Antioch).

Turn 6 – 1260AD
Sidon: Ansar -> Ansar
New Damascus: Ansar -> Wall
New Antioch: Wall -> Pike

VPs: 23040 vs. 16570

Attacks:
New Antioch – Our elite retreat versus a regular pike and The Protectors kill it.
Antioch – An Ansar defeats a spear, another defeats a Spy and four ansars retreat to spies…

Hurry three ansar and the walls in New Baghdad.

IBT: Cordova pulls in Germany versus Burgundy. Denmark and Germany decide that attacking the Byzantine is a good thing. And the Byzantine attack New Damascus with a cataphract that retreats.

Turn 7 – 1263AD
Antioch: Ansar -> Wall
Baghdad: Ansar -> Ansar
Sidon: Riots and is given taxmen
Basra: Ansar -> Ansar
Aleppo: Ansar -> Ansar
Prilep: Riots and is given enough taxmen (3) to starve them good and proper.
New Baghdad: Walls -> Pike
New Mosul: Ansar and Riots -> Tax and Ansar
Rubber Basra: Pike -> Pike

The situation on the front:
RBC13H_-_1263AD_-_Northern_Front.JPG

Attacks:
Near Urfa our Elite Ansar kills a spear.
New Damascus and Antioch see three cataphracts destroyed by our ansar warriors.
Antioch: A fantastic charge by six troops of ansar and a crusader see four spear destroyed as well as a cataphract in return for one loss and one retreat.

VPs: 23295 vs. 16740

IBT: Denmark declares on the Fatimids. The Byzantine attack us with two MDI and two Cataphracts. We defeat one MDI and one cataphract, loosing one conscripted spear and one ansar in the process.

Turn 8 – 1266AD
Spies are built in all cities except Konya on our Eastern frontier.
Gaza: Ansar -> Ansar
New Damascus: Wall -> Pike
New Antioch: Pike -> Pike

Attacks:
New Jerusalem – Our ansar defeat a spear.
Antioch – Three of our ansar crush three of their spears.
New Antioch – The elite ansar corps kill a cataphract and The Protectors defeat a spear.
Mosul – The Defenders of Allah defeat a MDI.

IBT – Castille goes to war against Cordova. Cordova starts Robin Hood. Burgundy captures Konya (which was left empty for the longest time, and I which I hadn’t reinforced at all) with a settler/spear pair. The Byzantine now shift their forces towards our far eastern boundary, but through us, leaving themselves horribly exposed.

Turn 9 – 1269AD
Antioch: Wall -> Harbour
New Jerusalem: Pike -> Pike

Attacks:
Prileps - And ansar takes out a cataphract.
New Baghdad - The Chosen take out three spears.
New Damascus – Three ansar take out two spears, we loose one ansar.
Antioch – Six veteran and one elite ansar defeat two spears. One ansar warrior dies in the process, and four retreat. Only one is promoted.

IBT – Magyar capture Sardica (btw. They took good care of that infantry SOD I mentioned earlier). Bulgars decide to sit down and smoke the peace pipe with the Byzantine. And the Byzantine kill a cataphract on one of our ansar.

Turn 10 – 1272
Damascus: Notre Dame -> Sheriff’s Office (this should be rushed next turn).

RBC13H_-_1272AD_-_Notre_Dame.JPG

Baghdad: Ansar -> Ansar
Alexandria: Harbour -> Sheriff
New Hatin: Pike -> Pike

Attacks:
Recapture Konya…. And it has no resisters!

All offensive units (- those at Konya) have been left with moves. No diplomacy has been conducted this turn.

Notes:
Ok the threat of the Byzantine Empire has ended. They are fighting a two front war and are loosing. If we concentrate our armies, we can probably crush the border cities handily.

In the wonder front we are only competing with Cordova for Robin Hood. They have a couple turns head start, but we have a bigger city working on it, and it will have a smith as well as the sheriff’s office. It should work, but will be close. Just remember to rush the sheriff’s office in Damascus next turn (we should hopefully have the cash for it).

And that is about it.

And with a smile Kabuki sees his beloved empire safe, and heads off to home, there is a flock of goats needing some tending and a woman waiting for him. This Empire thing, who needs it?

WOW!! That was great work Kabuki! Sorry I left everything in a mess, but I was in scramble mode trying to get units to the front. You did a much better job.

:goodjob: Great job Kabuki! I'm looking forward to my turns :D

Great Job, Kabuki! That was rather a nasty set of turns there, but you handled it very, very well.
This may be our last war. If we can keep hammering the Byzzies and start some offensive operations, the VPs will probably vault us over the 30,000 mark in 10 or 15 more turns.

@Sir Bugsy
I've been wrestling with my conscience about this, but I think since everyone joins Succession Games to learn and improve their game skills, it is worth pointing out. (In other words, I feel uncomfortable giving criticism to my fellow players, but in this case I'm doing it anyway.) ;)

My main point is that it is very obvious Theodora had ill intent from your first interturn (1227) In fact, I invite everyone to download that save
1227 save
and give it a try themselves to see what I'm talking about. The encroachment of the first few cataphracts on this first interturn with no other possible goal in mind is the tipoff. Warning bells should have been going off big time for you then.

You should have dropped everything right then, and started rushing units and upgrades in our Southern cities to bolster the frontier. Especially Catapults and Pikes. Since I made mention in my report of the "several stacks of 10+ Cataphracts wandering about", and the fact that the Bizzies have a stronger military than ours, then any thought of offensive operations should have been thrown right out the window. Your Byzzie city investigations is completely wasted money at that point. The sale of Polearms to them is also almost completely wasted (though we did get 600+ gold out of them before they backstabbed us, that is really not too shabby in a game where techs are sometimes hard to sell at full price).
Movement of our garrisoning forces from our Southern cities should have started right away, even if it meant clown duty because of the loss of MPs. Also, the movement of our main Ansar Warrior force from the North should have started right away and try to get at least two armies south in time to defend Hatin and Tyre. This could have been done without an ROP because of their huge movement potential. And lastly, get Int Operations from Bizzie in a complete GPT deal before demanding her to leave. (on your turn so that you could counter right away and bloody her nose before she got first attack (which you did do.) I forget if that is against RBCiv rules are not, but she telegraphed her treacherous moves so much that I don't really care! ;)

These efforts would have resulted in none or at most one of our cities lost, and a lot less of loss of troops by us.

Yes, I should have seen the coming offensive and started moving units towards the front. So that was a poor move on my part.

I did start moving units from the north immediately. That's why I was able to take the Byz city in the far east... because I had most of the northern units there already. In fact I had half of them in Byz territory when I got kicked out.

Turn 0 - We have 25145 VPs to Byzantine's 17280 and seem to be on our way to winning the war and going on the offensive. I decide to wait for a turn or two to see if the Byzantines are fully gassed yet (according to our military advisor, we are weak compared to them).

Kill a spy with an Elite Ansar, no leader. I see that the Byzantines only have one iron, so I send our army of chosen ones to pillage it and retreat back into New Baghdad.
4/5 Ansar vs. veteran spearman on our wines wins -1hp, no leader.
4/4 Ansar vs. veteran spearman on our wines wins flawlessly.

IBT - The Magyars scare me by sending giant SoDs near our Turkish cities.
Burgunday declares war on the Magyars (probably due to the sub bug).
Little in the way of Byzantine activity, We love the Caliph day celebrated throughout our empire.
The Cordovans are building Robin Hood.

Turn 1 - I decide its time we attack the Byzantines and get back our cities.
Veteran Ansar vs. reg. pikeman wins, -1 hp
12/14 Chosen ones take out 1 pikeman and 2 spearmen in Ohrid, -8 hp (it lost *7* hp taking out the pikeman!)
14/14 Abul-Abbas's Protector of Heaven takes out 1 pikeman in Tyre flawlessly.

IBT - Castillians come looking for an alliance vs. the celts and an ROP.
Byzantine counterattack is nonexistant. They send workers into Tyre and Ohrid, reinforce Ohrid with 1 Cataphract, and try to reinforce Tyre with one too (the tyre one didn't have enough movement points).
Magyars move some of their troops SW towards Iconium, but others go West, near our cities.

Jerusalemn completes Byzantine Medicine, set to Ansar (have to MM to get 30 spt, Damascus is now starving).
I change Damascus from it's Sheriff's office to an Ansar, as it can already produce Ansars every 2 turns, has little corruption, and we are making plenty of money.
Damascus:Ansar Warrior->Ansar Warrior.
Basra:Ansar->Ansar
Acre:Ansar->Ansar
Rubber Basra:Pikeman->Pikeman
New Allepo:Temple->Pikeman (expansion will be too late to prevent Danish settler pair to settle near it next turn).
Cordovans are building Robin Hood.

Turn 2 -
14/14 Protectors of heaven vs. pikeman in Tyre win, -3 hp.
11/14 Protectors vs. vet. spearman in Tyre wins, -5 hp and the city is once again ours. Luckily for us, it kept its blacksmith. I set it to a granary so that we can get it back up to speed and producing units again.
Elite ansar vs. vet. Cataphract. wins, -4 hp and Creates a Leader :D. He is renamed Mohammed's protector. The army is immediately filled with Mohammed's protectors and 2 Veteran Ansars.
At Ohrid, 14/14 Army of Allah vs. Vet. Cataphract wins, -2 hp.
12/14 Army of Allah vs. reg. archer wins flawlessly and takes the city with 4 workers.

VPs are at 26240 compared to 17475 for the Byz's.

IBT - Celts and Castile sign peace.
Magyars continue to scare me with their large SoDs, but portions of the SoDs move S. and SE towards Iconium.
Danes settle in the EXACT lower lefthand corner of the map, 4 turns before our temple would have expanded.
No Byzantine counter.

Sidon:Ansar->Ansar
New Damascus:Pikeman->Pikeman
New Mosul:Ansar->Ansar

Turn 3 - No Attacks, just movement and resting up to take Nicomedia and Hatin next turn (our army is somehow still weak compared to them though).

IBT - Magyars descend upon Iconium...
Cordovans and Danes sign an alliance vs. the Fatimids :crazyeye:. Hehe, and apparently it was the DANES that brought them in, not the other way around (How is that Danish city on our Fatimid Border still standing?).
Another weak Byzantine Counterattack with a total of 0 attacks. I didn't realize that Spies had ATAR (assassins don't so I assumed the same was the case for spies) so a few get into our territory harmlessly.

Jerusalem:Ansar->Ansar.
Antioch:Harbor->Granary
Damascus:Ansar->Ansar
Aleppo:Ansar->Ansar
New Antioch:Pikeman->Pikeman
New Tyre:Aqueduct->Pikeman
New Basra:Town Hall->Pikeman

Turn 4 - 13/13 Mohammed's Protectors vs. reg. pikeman in Hatin wins, -4 hp.
9/13 Mohammed's Protectors vs. vet. spear in Hatin wins, -1 hp and the city is once again ours (the Aqueduct and Blacksmith are intact).
14/14 Chosen Ones vs. reg. pikeman in Nicomedia win, -5 hp.
9/14 Chosen Ones vs. reg. pikeman in Nicomedia wins, -4 hp, revealing an MDI in the city.
Vet. Ansar warrior vs. vet. Mdi in Nicomedia wins and takes the city (no promotion unfortunately) with 4 workers and a catapult.
Vet Ansar Warrior vs. Pikeman. loses, redlining the pikeman.
Elite Ansar vs. vet spy. wins, -1 hp.
Elite Ansar vs. 1 hp Pikeman wins flawlessly, no leader.
Vet Ansar vs. vet spy on hill retreats after doing no damage.
Vet Ansar vs. vet spy on hill wins, -2 hp.
