RBC7 - Austrian Fascists (C3C Demi SG)

Sorry for the day of silence - I've been sick.
In terms of style points now that we are Fascists - are we going for domination or Conquest? Should we raze cities? - or just starve 'em down to size 1?

This might be a moot question because now that I think about it -Domination might be more difficult under Fascism than we might think because of the population hits and probably no hospitals.

Well- The expected Blitzkrieg turn didn't really materialize because of Peace Treaties - It turned more into a Railroading turn (which I personally like almost as much!)

Preturn: Ahhh! Luxes and Marketplaces make all the difference in the world for a painful/not painful Anarchy period in terms of starvation. Last time we only had 3, now we have 6. Nothing to do but press enter.

1010 AD The Zulu sign their death warrants by jumping in with the Vikings in their war against Germany. We are now xenophobic Fascists! OUCH!!! The Population drop is brutal! It appears that there were some traitors who did not appreciate the new Austrian Nationalistic fervor. (To the tune of almost 20%)! Every city drops 2 Pop points. We did have 39% of the population and now we have 34%. On the plus side we can now support 200+ units and we only have 115!!! This is a better unit support ratio than Communism in Civ2! (If I remember correctly!)

I can't believe we own 31% of the land and have no coal! This will have to be changed post haste. We cast our covetous eyes on the nearest source that is near our border in the Ragnor's land. Unfortunately we have 7 turns of peace left with him. We have 12 turns of Peace left with the Ottos. Our only real choice is to pick up the two stray Hittite cities in the SW and then defend for 6 turns until we can take on the Vikings. Set Research toward Industrialization at a modest rate. Everyone (who is left) in Austria sure is happy! Fire the few specialists who survived the purges. I look for some good whip opportunities, but there really is nothing available as the Pop drop was so brutal. I didn't add up the shield loss and corruption rate, but just by eyeballing it I would say it is exactly equal to Republic.

Declare war honorably against the Hittites and kill two of their wandering Knights without loss or promotions. Capture Medina with no losses and The Great wall (Tourist Attraction - 6 gpt) is ours. True to our nature, we find only one third of the citizens worth keeping around. The others are - "disposed of". The same holds true for Najran. Fortunately both towns only have a Arab citizens left, so no flip risks to the Hittites. Wake up our armies and glorious Hussars from their peacetime duties. (Major reshuffling here!)

What the heck!!!??? There is coal just right outside of Kafa! Did it just appear there or have we overlooked it all this time? Anyways, our nearest workers are 5 turns movement away from it. (What the heck is all this huge concentration of workers in the swamps around Budapest for anyway?)

1020 AD (2) The nervous Vikings come begging for a MPP and ROP. They must have felt the target on their backs! Uhhmmmm......NO! More troop re-shuffling. No sign of any Hittites. Start a forced march of workers towards the Coal. Join a 4'th Hussar to some of our Hussar armies.

1030 AD (3) Uhmmm...more of the above. I sure wish we could quick-march these workers! Moving our Riflemen garrisons to the coastal cities and freeing up our Hussars.

1040 AD (4) The Vikings build Newtons for us. Our first workers arrive at our coal. Start moving workers back to our core for railroad startup operations. Whip a couple of Temples.

1050 AD (5) The Ottos join in the war against the Hittites with the Vikings. A bunch of people start that useless (to us!!!) Universal Suffrage. The price of Industrialism has fallen dramatically - I can almost get it without a gpt deal.

1060 AD (6) Coal hooked up! [dance] The great military network that will speed our glorious armies to their destinies is started.

1070 AD (7) Buy Industrialism at last place price from Ottos for around 2100 gold. (Our Research helped reduce the cost). Shut off all research. Start building 6 factories in our core. 1 turn left on our Peace treaty with the Vikings.

1080 AD (8) We finish our Military Academy! Our Hussar armies will pack even more punch (Thanks, Arathorn!)
Honorably declare war on the Vikings. To-be-continued.

1080 AD (8) --- Continued. Our Hussar armies attack! Khurasan falls with no losses (Former Arabian city). Anjar falls next with no losses (3 ugly- looking Scandi citizens left and resisting.) Stavanger - in the middle of our territory - is accidentally destroyed when we conquered it. We do gain three nearby workers, but lost one Hussar in the attack on the city. Our main force advanced on Oslo.

1090 AD (9) The Ottos are making great headway against the poor Hittites. I hate to break the news to everyone, but we are not the only Fascists around. The Ottos, Germans, and Vikings are also this government type. All this urhmmm..."cleansing of the population" has resulted in us vaulting to 43% of the worlds population! With all the enemies the Vikings have had lately, they appear to be gassed (no counter-attacks). Oslo is captured with no losses. (Size 12 drops to Size 9 when we take control). Heal some armies, and make an advance on Birka. We now have a second source of coal if we need it.

1100 AD (10) Vikings attack with 2 Cavs. Both lose against our Riflemen at Oslo. Leader-fish in our attack on Birka. I got nothing, but didn't lose anyone either and captured a cannon. The same results at Copenhagen. Vikes are down to 5 cities and we are closing in on their capital. Our military railnet is 2/3'rds complete, but our core and the front are all connected at least.

The Game (1100)

Ouch, I'm totally sorry. I forgot about that game... :) *banging his head against the nearest wall thrice* I apologize. I assume now that my time is up, isn't it?

mfG mitsho

You assume correctly. It's gotten too haphazard in several games now and we need to tighten it up a bit... 24/48 doesn't account for "Tis 72 and tis forgotten"

Should have realized this would spell nothing good:
> I am back, but now am up in several sg's...
> I'll try to play them all this afternoon...

"Got it"
Charis

 I was feeling guilty enough for taking my full 48. I'm glad I didn't get "Charis-slapped!"

(Preface - no "slapping", Rubberjello, taking a full 48 to slog thru a tough campaign is one thing, doing nothing over a 3 day span isn't acceptable. Especially when first player turn was 24 hrs late and next turns were skips. There's no hard feelings, just trying to keep the game moving :) )

Rubberjello saw that we lacked coal that was rightfully ours and in Fascist
fashion, "nationalized it." It twas, alas, a detail that the coal lay in territory
'claimed' by some upstart Vikings, but Rubberjello started a 'corrective action'
to "reclaim" it for the glory of Austria. We also seem to be at war with a tiny
nation known as the Hittites.

We have 117 of 236 allowed units (yowza), blazing fast workers, Hussars and four
armies of Hussars, top score, top power, are 'strong' to the world, and 46 rifles.
Let's put the pedal to the metal before Infantry arrive on the scene. Rival in power,

albeit a weak one, is a tie between Germany and Ottomans. Due to geography, Ottomans
will be next in line for a whooping after the other two. We need TONS more work done
on rails, even Vienna is mostly unrailed. Milnet completion comes first though.
Our rivals have no useful techs, just Democracy and Communism, inferior govts!

Our goal - world Domination, of course. We're well on the way in population, and
need to double our area.

[0] 1100AD - Whip a few places to start, such as temple in Pecs, CH in Bad-tibira
and Gmeund.

[1] 1110 - First stop on the tour of peri-extinct viking lands is Bergen.
Next stop, our latest and greatest addition to the empire, Trondheim, home of
our new Sun Tzu Art of War, built by Austrians centuries ago, it is finally
nationalized ("reclaimed") for the glory of the Fatherland. Army kills three rifles
to expose a Berzerker. Sounds like a good time to let the Elite Hussar, and...

Beaulieu appears! Army #5!

Rifle after rifle dies at Trondheim, tis verily a river of blood. Finally, it falls
to the newly created army, and along with it and Sun Tzu, Magellan's and tourist
attraction Colossus. Both these cities are immediately hooked up to military railnet.
IBT - Only 'counter' is three frigates from Stockholm bombarding our army.

[2] 1120 - Lost a vet Hussar at Stockholm, but no other losses as we take the city.
After a little cleansing, we visit Shakespeare's theatre for a little propaganda film.
Milnet is instantly hooked up and we come up to break the resistance. The Vikings
have only ONE more city -- Reykjavik, and to curtail flip chances for Sun Tzu and the
rest, it's going to go, and next turn. (Kissura, Kish, Agade whipped)
IBT - Outside Erech, a Hittite MDI lands, next to one Berzerker landing (hehe)
At Reykjavik, two units LEAVE?!

[3] 1130 - Reyk is tough, starting with 3 retreats and loss, then two wins by army,
and a retreat (yikes) by army. Conscripts now, elite loses, wins, and wins to capture
the city (and Newton's University). The Vikings have been assimilated by the glorious
Austrians!

We turn now our sights to the Hitties, and see a musket defending Allepo! :P
The laughs subside when the first two Hussar retreat (tis on a hill, size 8)
We beat the next few and take it though. All ex-Viking cities are whipped, as are
Kafa, Kranj. IBT - Whoops, forgot MDI at Erech! He pillaged.

[4] 1140 - Harran finds itself facing the wrath of a Hussar army, which kills the
top three muskets, going red. One more Hussar takes it, and the Mausy Mauso.

On to Hattusas, W, L, R (vs Pike!), W, L to uberPike with elite Hussar??!, W to take it.
Finally, Erech lander is hit with cannon and taken out.

[5] 1150 - Vienna finishes factory, starts Coal plant, after which it can go on
army production duty :P Salzburg finishes too, hits 40spt and so can crank one
Hussar per two rounds. We advance on Hatusha. IBT - Nuthin.

[6] 1160 - Sipahi are coming close to Hittite towns too, ah yes, they're at war.
Hatusha only had two muskets, and is taken by an army.
Crud, Ottomans have Tarsus sealed off -- can't get there. Actually, can get ONE
army to get ONE attack by going around a few Ottoman workers. Pike is up... Pike
is down, that's it! We poached Tarsus from the onslaught of the Ottomans :D
The Hitties have precisely one city besides their capital and are insulted to
even think of giving it away. The problem is, that's an island city. The only
one who could easily knock them off is the Germans. We send a few elite Hussar over
toward their capital, Ankuwa, but its mountainous and the Ottomans should beat us
there. Still, there might be a poach chance. One army heads there too.
We found a native city in a gap between Reyk and Olso, which is called
Wiener Neustadt. (New Hot Dog City??)

[7] 1170 - Movin' and railin'. In fact, our mil net is FINALLY complete, all cities
connected via rail. Now our core can get some more attention. Several low shield
cities are put on settlers to fill in gaps and move us toward the domination goal.
IBT - The Ottomans are so lame. They get about nine Sipahi NEXT to Ankuwa but
can't reach it, but worse, they kill a pike and then LOSE to a spear with the ones
that can reach it. Our army is right next door watching :P

[8] 1180 - Poach indeed, the army decimates the lone spear and takes the city :P
[9] 1190 - Garrison, by next turn no more resistance.
[10] 1200 - 4120g +260gpt, Vikings gone, and our whole SOD army is next to Oslo,
ready to do the bidding of the next leader.

RBC7-AustrianFascists-1200AD.jpg

Notes:
- Unmoved settler next to Oslo - found a city where you like. Also the SOD next
to him and all the units in Ankuwa are unmoved, if you would like to.
- Harran was whipped to get rid of Hittite citizens this turn. Choose rifle or Hussar.
- We can probably sell off all rax, but I hadn't done that yet in case Trondheim
had any problems.
- Seems like the next step might be one of three things:
- Ally with Germany vs Hitties (with whom they share an island) and see them
eliminated. Meanwhile, prepare forces to strike Ottomans and ally with 'our
friends' Germany when we do.
- Make peace with Hitties, focus on settling and making factories and more rifles
for the next ten turns (since we have about 12 undefended 'interior' cities.
- Hit either Germany or Ottomans right now. (Probably not best choice, given the
number of exposed workers right on our borders.
Or of course, some modfication or combination of the above :P

Good luck, EDIT -- File now uploaded

Got it. Without having seen the save (I'm at work now) I prefer to go take Ottoman land with Germany as an ally. The worker exposure will decide if I attack now or within two or three turns.

Yesterday my new PC (finally) arrived, but it doesn't work yet: imcomplete delivery  They might come back this night. If so, then this will be something for tomorrow night (CET).

At Reykjavik, two units LEAVE?!

seen that often, lately - it seems units on a goto elsewhere ands ettler escorts do that.
I once saw a spear leave a town (going for a res deep in my lands), then an archer attacked out of it and died - and there was only one reg Spear left in it

The Germans are our blood brothers and have been stalwart allies. 'Twould be a fitting finish to have them standing shoulder to shoulder with us at the end

I agree, unless the end of the war is not the end... Meaning we need more territory or population and resettling doesn't do the trick!

EDIT: The manager of the PC store told me that he would come and fix things tonight. But I expect that he either will be stopped by a snow-storm or just won't show up anyway  , meaning I then will be able to play tonight.

Wow, new computer but something missing?!?

That's a major tease  Good luck with that.

It's quite a surprise to see Germany play such a 'useful' role in an SG game -- it would be wonderful to see the game end with the swallowing of the Ottoman empire and the Austrio-prussians together in domination of the world :P

I meant to count up how many units were in our SoD. There is a big army and 4-5 Hussar in the eastern isolated city of Ankuwa, but the main force consists of 3 more Hussar armies, a rifle army, only 1-2 spare rifles and oh... 1-2 dozen Hussar? As you say, ally with Germany vs Hitties, manuever into position, and declare on Ottomans/ally with Germany in 3ish turns should be devastating. If we keep our border towns well defended, Osmon will send his offensive units at Germany instead. I would expect Aggie's reign to be somewhat brutal, with quite a high body count, but it wouldn't surprise me to see not only a gassed Ottoman empire by the end of it, but over a half-dozen new cities in our control.
It won't be three player turns after that (if that many) before their section of the map has gone from orange to fully red. Those eastern Ottoman cities are not important strategically, but if neglected, Germany will get them, and may keep us under the 66% mark.

Should be fun times, good luck Aggie!
Charis

(PS to those asking about shadow, I wanted to give the mainline about 20-30 turns space to not affect their play, so after Aggie's turn I'll post that. The divergence point was the turn before the last anarchy. I got the needed other techs, went through a second one, I have save files for each of the other govts.)

Bede is polishing his sabre and spurs for the celebrations of our supremacy

Hit 'em hard Aggie

Cant't wait for the parade through Istanbul and the dances with Sultan's harem

I agree with the above plans. Aggie will have some difficult turns though because he will get hardly any reinforcements. Our core cities are finishing up factories and some maybe continue on with coal plants. We'll end up with quite a few defenderless cities in our backyard, which is OK because of our rails!

Forward Hussars!

Yup, they are gassed and I got about this number of cities...and more :)

I don't know if they tried, but they didn't

And now...the whole story. A bit of a boring read (no nobel prize nominee) but a lot happened!

IT: We have 41% of the world area and 49% of the world population.
We are strong compared the the Ottomans and they call us backward.

I get an alliance with Germany vs the Hittites for two luxes.

I hate to wait for an attack, but I think it is best that the troops regroup. New Vienna founded near horses.

IT: The Zulu/Hittite trading embargo vs us ends. The reason is that the Zulu are destroyed by Germany :p Germany finishes Universal Suffrage.

Turn 1 (1210 AD) Rifles are sent to the bordertowns and our big hussar stack goes to the south east. Aim is to take those cities first and then concentrate on the Ottoman core. We are in striking distance of all the 5 cities now.

Turn 2 (1220 AD) I cancel the lux deals with the Ottomans and demand 664 gold for peace. They decline, so naturally I declare war.

I get the now gracious Germans by our side for two luxes.

-Hussar army kills two regular rifles and takes Tyrana
-Hussar army kills vet and regular rifle and takes Emar
-Hussar army kills vet and regular rifle and takes Hubishna
-Hussar army kills vet rifle, regular rifle and elite Sipahi in Adana
-Elite Hussar kills elite Sipahi in Adana
-Elite Hussar kills elite Sipahi in Adana
-Elite Hussar kills elite Sipahi in Adana (how many more? :( )
-Elite Hussar kils vet Sipahi in Adana
-Elite Hussar kils vet Sipahi in Adana
-Vet Hussar takes two hitpoints from vet Sipahi in Adana
-Vet Hussar Kills vet Sipahi in Adana

-Vet Hussar kills regular Sipahi in Adana
-Vet Hussar kills regular Sipahi in Adana
-Vet Hussar is killed by regular Sipahi in Adana
-Vet Hussar kills regular Sipahi in Adana
-Vet Hussar kills regular Sipahi in Adana. Now the wounded Sipahi appears!
-Vet Hussar kills wounded Sipahi in Adana and we take the city

That makes 17 - 2 for the Austrians in the memorable battle of Adana. This gotta hurt Osman!!

-Hussar army kills wandering Sipahi
-Vet Hussar kills wandering Sipahi
-Vet Hussar is killed by vet rifle in Ugarit.

IT: The Ottomans lose a lot of Sipahi (about 5). We lose 3 Hussar, two rifles and the city Ankuwa is now Ottoman. That is nothing to worry about though.

Turn 3 (1230 AD)

-A Hussar army kills a vet Sipahi and we have Ankuwa back.
-A Hussar army kills two vet rifles in Ugarit
-A Hussar army kills a vet rifle and a vet Sipahi in Ugarit
-A vet Hussar kills a vet Sipahi and we take Ugarit

-An elite Hussar kills a vet Sipahi
-An elite Hussar is redlined but kills a vet rifle. We get leader Swarzenburg. I create a new Hussar army.
-An elite Hussar kills a regular rifle

IT: The Ottomans can't find the troops for a counterattack.

Turn 4 (1240 AD)

-A Hussar army kills three regular rifles and Kazesh is autorazed
-A vet Hussar kills a regular musket

We own the souteastern part of the world. The main troops now move to the original core of the Ottoman empire.

IT: Again NO Ottoman counterattack.

Turn 5 (1250 AD)

-A Hussar army kills two vet rifles

The other troops heal.

IT: A Sipahi manages to kill a wounded army. That one was left ungarded

Turn 6 (1255 AD)

-A Hussar army kills two vet rifles, a vet sipahi and takes Riza
-A Hussar army kills two vet rifles in Ankara but retreates against a third
-A Hussar army kills a vet rifle, a regular rifle and a Sipahi in Ankara
-An elite Hussar kills a wounded Sipahi and we take Ankara
-A newly formed Hussar army kills two vet rifles in Izmit
-An elite Hussar retreats vs a regular rifle in Izmit
-An elite Hussar kills a regular rifle in Izmit
-An elite Hussar kills a vet Sipahi and we take Izmit

-A vet Hussar kills a regular rifle in Edrine
-A vet Hussar kills a regular rifle in Edrine
-A vet Hussar kills a vet Sipahi and we take Edrine.

-A vet Hussaris killed by a regular rifle in Aydin
-A vet Hussar kills the same rifle
-A vet Hussar is killed by a vet Sipahi in Aydin
-A vet Hussar kills the now redlined Sipahi and we take Aydin

-An elite Hussar kills a wounded Sipahi wandering around
-An elite Hussar kills a wounded Sipahi and we have leader Frederick. Another army is formed.

The Ottomans are no match. We already control 63% of the population in the world. But only 48% of the territory.

IT: Two Ottoman Sipahi kill wounded Hussars.

Turn 7 (1260 AD)

-A Hussar army kills two vet rifles in Iznik
-A Hussar army kills two vet rifles and we take Iznik and control Bach

-An elite Hussar is killed by a vet rifle in Mugla
-A vet Hussar kills a regular rifle in Mugla
-An elite Hussar kills a wounded rifle in Mugla
-An elite Hussar kills a wounded rifle and we take Mugla

-A vet Hussar is killed by a regular rifle in Uskadar
-A vet Hussar kills a regular rifle in Uskadar
-A vet Hussar kills a wounded rifle and we take Uskadar

-A vet Hussar kills a wounded Sipahi in the open and promotes to elite

We own 50% of the world area and 72% of the world population.

Turn 8 (1265 AD)

-A Hussar army kills a vet and a regular rifle and we take Denzili
-A Hussar army kills two vet rifles in Antalya
-A Hussar army kills a regular and conscript rifle in Antalya
-A vet Hussar kills a longbow and we take Antalya

Turn 9 (1270 AD)

I settle at a lot of open spaces.

-A Hussar army kills four rifles and we take Salonika
-A vet Hussar kills a regular rifle and we take Konya

-An elite Hussar kills a vet rifle in Bulu
-An elite and a vet Hussar are killed by a rifle in Bulu
-A vet Hussar kills the last wounded rifle and we take Bulu

-A Hussar army kills two rifles and we take Urfa
-Hussar armies are needed becasue of their range, but the regular rifle and spear are no match. We take Bingol

A message appears:

RBC7Ottomans_dead.jpg

We have 11 turns of a MA deal with Germany vs the Hittites left. Others means may be required to win this (settling). We have covered 56% of the lands.

IT: The Hittites and Germany sign peace!

Turn 10 (1275 AD)

I decide to be peaceful and let the people of Austria await the orders of the next leader. We have 58% of the world in our power.
The next leader may have a chance to do some good, because the armies of Hussars are somewhat powerful.

The world is speaking German:
