RBC7 - Austrian Fascists (C3C Demi SG)

We are in the middle of the golden age and Fascism is known in the world. We can't buy it yet, but when I can, do I HAVE to buy it and revolt immediately? We have 10 turns of GA left...

Meanwhile I put science at lone scientist, because "obtaining it in all due haste" is via trade.
 
The idea is not to be distracted with other techs or delaying getting into Fascism because some other govt is working well, the goal is not to impale ourselves with an anarchy in the middle of Golden Age!

So I'm hoping that's a question and not a rhetorical comment whereby we're now in anarchy! :P

That is, get it without undue delay but at least finish the GA.

IHT: Obersturmbahnführer Aggie takes over from Franz Charis and sees a world at war :D And ourselves close to Nationalism. The rest of the world that matters is quite far advanced, but that can't worry him.

Only a little of micro managemnt is needed (science to 90%, Some cities to more commerce while still having the same shields/growth).

IT: A Zulu longbow kills one of ours and the Zulu march towards Lagash with 5(!) outdated units. The Hittites and Sumerian decide to boycot us.

Turn 1 (760 AD) Two cities end their riots. Science goes to 80%. Melas, our military leader in Graz, forms an empty army for future rifles...

Our army of knights kills a conscript rifleman without a scratch. Our elite Hussar finishes things by killing an impi. We take Zimbabwe with Sistine. The Zulu units near Lagash are all killed . Three Hussar armies close in on Ur.

IT: The Zulu and Sumerians send a couple of leader-fish-units.

Turn 2 (770 AD) Four Hussar armies are in striking distance of Ur. So the ciy is attacked. The armies manage to kill all rifles in the city (4) and a lone hussar gets the honour to kill the remaining longbow. Ur is ours.

IT: Nothing special from the Sumerians or Zulu. But loads of Hittite cavs near the Arab land, partly through our country!

Turn 3 (780 AD) We can do without Sumeria. We only need Fascism and Steam and we can get Steam from the Zulu. The Sumerians have too much culture and that is making our towns flip. I get a MA vs Sumeria with the Hittites for ToG. Four armies, of which one totally healthy, easily kill the four rifles and one cav in Erech. We take the city at least for one turn. The healed troops of Zimbabwe move towards Intombe.

IT: Scandinavia and the Otto's sign a MA vs Arabia.

Turn 4 (790 AD) We discover Nationalism and go for Fascism at minimum science. Sumeria is the only civ with the knowledge of Fascim :o . Time to have a look at the rule-book... Hmmm, I have to obtain it in all due haste :( Imho the fastest way is buying it. It is impossible to get it from Sumeria, so I wait for it to change hands. Meanwhile the science goes to minimum.

Just as I wanted to write about the unbelievable strength of the armies, one is killed by a rifle in Sumer :( But...we have three left and they have no problem with the three rifles and one cav in that city. We take Sumer and Leo is ours. I upgrade 9 pikes and 13 muskets for a total of 1000 gold.

IT: The Zulu and the Arabs sign a peace treaty. The Sumerians and the Scandinavians join forces vs the Hittites.

Turn 5 (800 AD) The young city of Kuma(?) was easily razed, however the defending rifle could kill one hussar. We have ourselves a riflemen-army. No other civ knows Fascism yet. I kill a few wandering units, but the main army has to rest.

Turn 6 (810 AD) We have to take more rest before we can start the final battle of Sumeria.

Turn 7 (820 AD) 3 hussars take Damascus from Sumeria. Four armies move close to Sumerias new capital: Umma.

IT: The people of Ur deposed our government. We had one Hussar in there :(

Turn 8 (830 AD) Two hussar armies kill 3 rifles and a cav. We now control Umma. Another army takes Ur back. The Sumerians might not survive and haven't traded Fascism yet. I now think that I know the rules of the variant more and science goes to 100% at -125. We have 1780 gold and will have it in 10.

Turn 9 (840 AD) We finish the Pentagon and raze a Sumerian city.

Turn 10 (9850 AD) Two hussar armies are enough to take Kish and 450 gold. The Sumerians now have only one city left: Kua in the far northeast. They still haven't traded Fascism and also won't give it to us in a peace deal, whatever we ask for it.

At the end of the day I am not extremely happy with my turn. OK, I managed to remove the Zulu and Sumerians from our part of the world, but I didn't keep a close eye on our build up and improvements. AND I made the mistake to join forces with the Hittites just one turn before the Sumerians got Fascism :wallbash:

We can make peace with the Zulu for discounts, but that means that we will take longer to research Fascism.

There's plenty of room to settle in the south. Beware of flip risks of the former Sumerian cities!! They still have a lot of culture!

Did they fold fast or what? It would be very nice if a far-away friend could eliminate Sumeria from the game for us and finish the flip-risk-nonsense.

If the Sumerians are GONE (or expected to be) we can rush-buy settlers out of their cities to fill those gaps asap.


Fascism will come soon enough, and our 'subcontinent' is finally under our control, just in time for its glorious entrance (whether that take 1, 10 or 20 more turns) Due in 8 won't be quite 8 as the GA and its uber income will cease in 5.

Looks like Bede is likely to set us up and likely obtain the tech, and may end in a period of anarchy, and RJ will have to make the transition to Fascism, see what new bldgs need to be made, and fill in the gaps. Whether there is immeidate war depends on our neighbors and their friskiness.

Actually...THAT is a good idea! Let's just get a MA with Germany and within one turn (or two) Sumeria is gone :D

EDIT: But would that mean that Fascism takes longer since no civ knows about it then?

BTW, you guys really want to build the military academy, too, even if you never build any armies out of it. The reason being that it's the MA (at least, that's what the literature says and I've not seen it contradicted) that takes the bonus from 1/6th of the army's strength to 1/4th. That is, your armies currently are getting a bonus of floor(21/6)=3 to attack (so they attack as a 10). Building the military academy would change that attack bonus to floor(21/4)=5, so they attack as a 12. Adding a fourth hussar and building the MA makes hussar armies attack as if they had strength 14 -- very impressive.

Yes, the communist shadow game is still on -- and I'll get it set up (it depends a little on what Bede does, he should of course play as best for the game, but I'll need to setup the shadow game so that it is anarchy with one turn to go, but with Communism in hand instead of Fascism - and I'll put you in the list for a turn with the commies :P RBC5 was the other candidate but may never see the Industrial era, or at least not the govt techs. That may end up as a post-win play-on-and-see quickie just to compare corruption/income/unit support under different governments in a real game situation)

I am trying to assemble a force in the south to take out Mecca or hit the Hittites when the time comes

Turkey and Germany learn Fascism and are in anarchy right now Neither one wants to trade for it

The Hussar army in the south gets a re-inforcement in Sumer

Abu sorties another longbow out of Mecca and a Hittite Cav takes it out

The trade embargo between Sumer and the Arabs against us has ended Sumeria is gone!! Otto came through for us

The remaining resistance in the flipped cities in the NW collapses and WLKTD breaks out all over

Shaka has 76g in his treasury now and will pay it in tribute for a peace treaty Make some more Shaka and we'll take that too

Gather some force in Kafa to take out Shaka's lonely MDI in the mountains

Ragnar calls and wants to re-up the Peace Treaty Having no quarrel with the Redbeard I agree

The Hussar army at Kish moves SW and uncovers a barb camp and uses it for sabre practice

The assault on Mecca begins An elite Hussar takes down the Arabian longbow and fortifies on the coast An elite Hussar absorbs a treb hit and defeats an elite spear The first Army defeats a vet spear and fortifies in reserve The second strikes and kills a spear and moves back in reserve. The Hittite forces are slowly leaving our territory

Mursilis' troops start a battle with Ragnar's Zerk, lose a cav and kill the Zerk

Shaka's rifleman takes out a gem road in the mountains above Feldkirch and takes a cannon bombardment unscathed It takes two Hussars to take him out One dies the second is quartered

Time to make peace with Shaka He'll take it straight up and if we throw in Fascism he includes Steam Power and Medicine We'll need the population growth for unit support under Fascism so take the deal and go looking for Sanitation Nobody has it yet but we have no coal!!!

Make a flying trip around the Empire and hire a bunch of clowns, taxmen and one beakerhead in an attempt to avoid civil breakdown in the edgier cities

A group of malcontents rise up in the capital and attempt a putsch against the Hapsburg Dynasty The putsch is successful and the Hapsburgs are exiled to Germany but the revolutionaries are going to need 8 turns of the wheel to gain control of the realm

The workforces at Salzburg and Krems go on hunger strikes to protest the putsch so a few more clowns are hired and citizens reassigned to food production

The Turk comes calling and cancels a lux deal He will pay 11gpt for Spices Sell 'em and another 11gpt for ivory Sold!

The Vikings and the Hittites fight a pitched battle around Zimbabwe and the Redbeard's Raiders are left are left in possession of the field

Prospectors comb the countryside looking for coal and find none

T10 950AD
The battle around Zimbabwe continues and the remnnants of the Hittite cav force is slain

The Vikings succeed in an amphibious raid on Medina but can't hold the city as it is retaken by two Hittite knights

Manbor is founded between Urisoursnow and Kish

There are forces positioning around Medina and settlers waiting in Lagash Medina and Najran just south of it should be easy pickings for the Hussar armies

Despite the revolution all the cities are orderly and well-fed

The Hittites remain at war with Shaka and Redbeard and Otto and the Sultan are still struggling for supremacy in the east but no changes are visible on the map The Hittites and the Zulu are the last democratic governments left All others are Fascists

The Austrians are the big dogs on the continent in terms of land and population and income per capita We are the cultural weaklings although our realm has at least surpassed Berlin but is only 20% of Germany's total Our power curve is moving towards 30% of the scale and we rank third behind Otto and Ozzie but are less than 100 points behind them

I see it. I told you I was goint to get stuck with the next round of Anarchy! ;) Well, at least this time I can have some warmongering to do during it.

I'm going to wait for Charis to check in to find out what he wants to do about a (the) shadow game(s) split out.

The Arabs too seemed to have chosen unwisely, though we shall raise a glass in their honor in Mecca.

Those Hapsburgs sure didn't last long! I can smell the winds of change a-comin'! It's time to REALLY crack the whip on foreigners!
Our FOUR Hussar armies, 35 Hussars, 36 Rifles and dozen misc units will see to that! We're strong to everyone and we have 'turned the corner' on the power curve such that no one can oppose us. Hopefully, you guys won't mind a fun 'rout' on the enemies :goodjob:

As far as the shadow is concerned, I'll need Communism and Republic. The latter is purchaseable (easy trade with Hittites actually for it and Democracy), but with Communism, there's no way to get it I'm afraid - you can't steal or do any such activities under Anarchy. The Ottomans have a monopoly on Communism.

While it's amusing to see Rubber Jello land the anarchy again, I've played through 5 turns to the last turn before it, to see if Communism somehow became available, but no.

980 Ottomans break rep and come to peace with Germany.
990 Found Ljubljana int he southwest. Found Kranj in the southeast.
1000 Zulu and Hittite come to peace. This is last turn of anarchy.

What's up with tech?
Ottomans and Germany have Communism and Industrialization. Other three have neither.

So, dead silent turns and you get a non-anarchy period Ruberjello, take it from the attached. What I'm doing for shadow is to revolt, steal tech, and play to end of next anarchy period for an equal shot at all govts. I'll post more on that later (before too long I hope)
