Update 5- September 1950
SPANISH CIVIL WAR! The Spanish civil war continues to rage as 8 months of bloodshed continue. The Communists win a major victory in the North, the Battle of Guadalajara. It has been the first tank battle of the war, and the superior T-34s that the Communists now posses have destroyed the majority of the Spanish tank corps. The Spanish are able to once again surround Madrid, but the majority is now inside the pocket, rather then outside. These also include the Belgian fighters sent to help the Republicans. The Republicans dig in and decide to turn Madrid into a battlefield. The large amount of Communist tanks sit waiting for the order to attack. Republicans have used their entire income buying defenses.
Spain: -20 Shermans, -50 Light Tanks, -30 Medium Tanks
Communists: -40 T-34s.
GRANADA FALLS! Granada becomes a battleground once more as a large British division and a division of Commonwealth troops storm into the area. The British support this attack with a wing of Meteors. The 2 communist divisions are unable to stop the advance. Granada has fallen, but the port city of Almeria remains in Communist hands. Bitter fighting has broken out outside of Granada. If the communists can save the city from destruction,(no combat in it) then a group of militia will secure their allegiance to them.

SPANISH AIR FORCE! The Spanish air force, not trapped within the defenses of Madrid have launched an all out assault on Communist forces. These almost 500 spitfires have caused large loss of man and material already. If Madrid is too be taken with minimal loss, then the air fields in Santander must be destroyed, but delaying an attack on Madrid will possibly cost more lives due to improved defenses, and possibly savior of the republicans by the British.

SURPRISE ATTACK! Develops in Bulgaria has proved the uneasy peace could never be. For a payment of 8 WC from the USSR, Romanian troops have crossed through Yugoslavia and have attacked Bulgaria from the rear. The large attack consisted of 4 Infantry divisions and 3 tank divisions. The attack hit several key airfields, and have allowed Romania to regain air superiority. The EDL forces reacted to this attack quickly, thanks to mech infantry. The Romanian bulge has helped encircle Sofia. The Bulgarians have built Medium Tanks to counter this new offensive.

RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE! The Russians now move with their forces and push through the weak Bulgarian defenses. Russias losses are so minimal, that replacement are brought up in a few days without cost. The Mech Infantry make excellent time and are able to cut of Varna from reinforcements, and almost meet up with the Romanian bulge. If the two are to meet up, it would trap all Bulgarian and EDL forces around Sofia. The Bulgarians are prepared to retreat to Greece if the EDL can make a hole big enough to escape. Currently the only thing standing in the way of an encirclement is the Turkish Expeditionary Force.

VARNA CAPTURED! As Sofia is threatened and supply lines cut off the forces around Varna dwindle. The Romanians launch 4 divisions against the city, only to be met by 5000 militia(partisans). The city soon falls and the Bulgarian navy is captured.

POLISH RESISTANCE ENDS! The final showdown between the Communist Poland and the polish Resistance came in early August. The Polish brought up 5 divisions of Conscripts to defeat the mere 4,000 Freedom Fighters. The force however was twice as big. Using gureilla warfare and knowledge of the land, the Resistance inflicted large casualties. Only the sheer numbers has brought down the resistance.

SLOVAKIA REBELS!
The Slovaks have rebelled against the ruling Czechs. The Slovaks cry that the power in the republic belonged to the Czechs, and not the Slovaks. The Slovaks also say that Slovakia received much less domestic support compared to the Czechs. This has prompted radicals to declare Slovakias independence. The most shocking thing about the rebellion is the fact that they have communist leaders. Having a border with Russia doesnt hurt either. Small arms are filling the Slovakian armys armorys to huge heights. Already 50,000 conscripts are prepared to die for the cause. Russia denies Slovakia help at this time.
NUCLEAR RESEARCH! Nations of Europe continue to research nuclear weapons even with strong domestic and international opposition. Britain finishes its research and even constructs its first nuclear bomb. The Italians in an attempt to match the British continue their research and become deadly close to finishing it. The Germans continue their research even with the stiffest resistance. Protests in Paris, London and Rome demand Trenches then, Atoms now. Germany must stop right now! All protests have ended with Police intervention. Several Molotovs have been thrown at the damaged British Parliament by radicals against the British and all nuclear research. It is uncertain what the EDL must do. The British bill in parliament passes the House of Lords and awaits the House of Commons. The Bill will expels Germany from the EDL if it wont stop its research.
ARMS RACE BUILDS! The Arms race between Russia and the United States continues to swell. The United States buys Strategic Missiles from France, giving it some strategic edge. The Russians however develop a new model of T-34, the T-34/50. The T-34/50 has improved armor, similar to that on the T-54, a larger gun and a better engine. This has allowed it to become the most powerful non-advanced tank in the world. The T-34/50 now surpasses the European Medium Tank.
SPEAKING OF ARMS! The USSR has enlarged its Air Force and Navy by building new submarines, a battleship and many MIG 15s. The total cost was 10 WC, build Soviet leader Josef Stalin claims, This is for the better protection of the people of the USSR from enemy air or sea attack Currently the new equipment has been reported to be stationed inside the heart of the Soviet Union.
ODER DEFENSES TO MAX! The best defenses troops can create has been created along the Oder line. Unfourtunetly the best they can do is barbed-wire and trenches as well as fortified villages, towns, machine gun nests, light AA etc. Many military strategists say it is too susceptible to air attack. 10 WC would reinforce the Oder line with fixed and mobile AA guns, capable of knocking down enemy YAKs and MIGs. Even better would be an Oder-Line, like the Maginot. It would cost Germany 75 WC though.
V-2s! The French construct 2 more V-2 rockets. They are capable of flying from Paris to Vienna. Reports are that France has stationed these rockets in Austria and Greece, capable of hitting Rome, Bucharest, Warsaw, Odessa and Sevastopol.
ITALY RECEIVES AID! Italy has received 22 WC from outside Rome-Pact nations. It is unsure what the reason or what nations these are, but Italy soon puts this money to use and furthers its nuclear research
MOROCCO DECLARES INDEPENDENCE! Spanish Morocco led a coup, ousting the local governor. They soon joined with Free Morocco. Morocco is now an NPC European nation(not world) Spain now in complete disorder, has allowed this to happen without a fight. Spain no longer has any colonies.
LEND-LEASE! The United States has once again Lend-Lease to a European nation. This time it was to its TATO partner Britain. 100 Mustangs and 150 Shermans have already arrived in Britain.
HUNGRY ON EDGE! As the Slovakian rebellion and Bulgarian war, Hungry is on the door step to joining the EDL. The only problem are the neutrals in the government. They wish to remain neutral and not join a side, hopefully saving Hungry from destruction.
SOVIET MOVEMENTS! The Soviet army has reportedly moved many soldiers near the Finn border and next to the Polish border, waiting for confirmation to cross. It is uncertain if this may be the Soviet invasion or not, Stalin has assured it is to protect the USSR from aggression.
WHICH SIDE IS HE ON? Tito of Yugoslavia continues to say he is not with either side, yet he allows Communist forces through his land. Tito has said this was because of the 8WC payment, which he did receive. Yugoslavia has not made any military actions against Bulgaria, or even mobilized its military. Many EDL members still say he might be persuaded to join.
NEW LEADER IN FINLAND! A new elected official has taken charge in Finland. He immediately joins with the EDL. This may not be good, because Finland is the only EDL member with a border with the Soviet Union.
