Relgious threads.

Well, if you stop, and all of the persons with your view stops because they are tired of the debate, the opposite view will become the dominate view with no one to say that there are people that think other.

Then that becomes what is thought to be the majority belief and they have the possibility to change the environment we are in.

After some time, when a new poster comes to CFC OF they only see people of one view and even thought that might be fun to enter into a debate in the beginning being they becomes so overwhelmed by people that think to your opposite you'll prob leave.

So at the end one view will gain superior and the rest will leave, or not say anything.

Same goes for the world as a whole.

I participate because while you find many differences re-occure, ocaisionally you can find agreement with someone with different outlook on life, or you gain an insight into how someone else thinks. Understanding how they think is important to undertanding people, and understanding people is important to learning tolerance.

Plus, I enjoy a good discussion, and I think there are subtelties to many of these debates that make them reworkable. When they get bogged down in simple 'I'm right your wrong', ie evolution vs creation, god vs no god, that's when I check out.

When people ignore their preconceptions long enough to actually hear what others are saying, then its worthwhile.

Makes ya feel big to belittle other people's beliefs!

Good for the ego!
So you did learn something from them after all .of course this is true in a lot of things in life. it called the" pride of life" . here is some of the thing that build ones pride:
Religion , knowledge, wealth , fame, very athletic , acquaintances, good looks, etc.
noone can ever brag about being humbled.;)

P.S. some maybe proud they don't post in religous threads anymore and see those who do inferior. Ex: I'm not againest Sport Threads because I have very little interest in sports nor do I see those who love sports( even debate) inferior to me. the thing about the forums on the internet is if I don't like a topic then I don't read it. it's that simple

no, no, you misunderstand...
he means "titanic" in the ship hitting the iceberg context :D

At least our arguments leave the slipway and don't sink at dock, eh, Bob? :p

vonork says it all: if I become silent and the religious nuts rant on, then I become part of the silent majority I always complain about.

and we can't shut up because all the faith-in-no-god nuts won't stop bragging how you don't believe in God, and how that makes you so much more rational ;)

Calling a truce is dumb because even if those who posted in this thread agreed, that wouldn't be enough and then we'd be silent and others wouldn't and we'd miss out on an occasional good point. Aye, I guess we'll just have to keep at it then, eh?

ah, you know i do not give a /&$)/ about whether you belief or not - it is just the nuts who want to dictate my life and work through old fairy tales......

I would suggest even the more hardcore religious (not spiritual) fanatics in this site don't particularly want to tell you how to live your life. I remember a certain Pantera Tigris, however, who contradicts what I just said.

Do you really not care at all what I believe in? Aw I thought I mattered :( ;) (okay I'd best stop winking)

oh, they do NOT want to make me live by the bible? That's news to me!

often enough have I heard them yell for laws that are solely and directly motivated by the bible - racist and intolerant as it partly is, too. Just remember their fight against evolution being taught, or against acceptance of homosexuals and so on. The first of the two directly concerns me!

I guess you are right in that there are enough posters here who are like that. However...

I know I certainly don't support those causes, I know I haven't said anything to you to tell you how to be, and yet far too many of the things you have said have made me feel like you were going after the belief part, and not the controlling part. Same thing applies to you too, Curt. I know you guys aren't after what I believe in, but sometimes in feels contrary to that. :(

Hygro: and even if we were - as long as we can disagree reasonably that's not too bad, right?

Oh right, forgot that part  Yeah I guess we're cool then.

I tend to avoid them as I have more important things to discuss online than the ultimate nature of reality and being and such. Things like whether radioactive monkeys belong on this site, whose national flag looks better, the latest crackpot scientific discoveries and the like.

I must admit to a desire to preen after hearing my name batted about here with such, well, I guess respect. I had no idea anyone was actually listening. I suppose I'd best polish up my act and behave...
