Requests for new components (and features)

Feature Request:

Alphabetical sorting of National and World Wonders in the Civilopedia.

As it stands now, they are sorted correctly, except when it comes to the English word, "The." Then, there is a massive list of 10-20 wonders all like "The Pyramids." The problem is, it can be very hard to sort through these in BTS. Even worse in mods like RoM, where there are 30-40 wonders like that.

I propose that wonders beginning with "The Something else here" be converted to this for the civilopedia entries "Pyramids, The." I know I could just change the TXT_KEYS, but that isn't really a solution, since it would look odd when building "Pyramids, The" in a city.

Hopefully this isn't too big of a request.

The SevoPedia code has something related to this, but I forget where it comes into play. I'll have to dig into the code again to see what it's doing.

I expect you can install those VD extras into BAT the same way you'd install them into VD itself. Keep in mind that the VD in BAT is a little out of date. Maybe you can copy the VD files over those in BAT?

Try this:

  1. Copy the entire BAT directory to "BAT Mod Plus VD"
  2. Copy all the files in VD/Assets to the Assets folder in this new BAT
Do it in a copy in case this doesn't work. Now rename the old BAT to "BAT Old" and rename the new BAT to the old BAT's name ("BAT Mod 2.0"?). Open a saved game. Crash? If so, undo the renames and delete the new BAT folder. If not, give a new game a try.
Thanks EF. I'm going to give this a try in a bit. I have a little problem with BUG and VD atm, which I'll post about in the bugs thread. When I get that fixed, I'm anxious to try and see if this works. :)

O/T:

Bugs and VD? I can see why you'd want to request "new components".....

Sorry, couldn't resist. :mischief:

Ah heck. Any nurse worth her salt will just tell you to just get a can of Raid and some Drano, and you're good to go... :p

I see in the sourceforge feature request list a couple of comments regarding inclusion of a Great Person mod being about ready to go... but no updates in a while. Is that still a going concern?

The problem is that the Python code is small enough to include in BUG, but the artwork that makes the mod at all interesting is 200MB. Compared to BUG's 2MB that's egregious. We were going to include the Python in BUG and the artwork in BAT, but time hasn't been plentiful lately.

It helps to hear that someone wants the feature, though.

One of my favorites--I love the parts that throw in tidbits of real history. It goes well with the leader's quotations that they fit into the dialog. Plus GP's are so awesome to the game it seems unfair they get so little fanfare.

Yes, you big genius man, you... it WORKED!!! Yay!!!! :D:D:D

Thank you very much for the tip. I posted the details on how I actually did it in a thread in the BUG forum, so others can enjoy as well. There were a couple of hiccups, but nothing a mod lay-person like me can't get around. If I can do it, anybody can. ;)

Thank you again. :)

Glad you got it working. I noticed in that thread you mentioned having to recopy BAT's Config folder after copying VD. Does VD really have a Config folder? I added that folder to BUG--it doesn't exist in the normal game.

In any case, thanks for posting the thread. It's nice to see BUG users helping other users. :goodjob:

Well now you have me thinking... I kept getting python errors until I did the recopy. Now I don't remember if VD has the config, or not, come to think of it. I'm at work right now, but when I get home tonight, I'll take a look and correct my post if need be. :)

So many people have helped me out with this game, I like to return the favor when I can. :D

I forget, did you merge in the latest BUG into BAT as well? Hmm, even if that were the case, you would need BUG's Config folder. Oh well, new BUG coming out this weekend so we can see again. :)

No, I didn't merge the newest BUG into it, I just used 4.0 as it is in BAT. I realized why I had a Config folder in Varietas. I had to move BUG's Config folder into VD in order to get the interface to show up. You had actually told me that last week, and I forgot about it, so that explains that. :crazyeye:

When the new BUG comes out, I'll merge that into BAT first, then merge VD into the whole thing. That way, the installation should be relatively painless, and I won't get my versions of BUG mixed up, which is why I was getting parsing and Python errors. Silly me.

I'll post my progress.

LM, just be patient until monday.;)
Oh, of course. Patience is my middle name. Well, ok, not really, but I'm in the middle of beating the living daylights out of Izzy, anyway. :)

Wait I shall.

Tap, tap, tap, tap... :p

This would be decidedly anti-UG because it's a rule change. I'd also like to see it in the normal game, but it can't be added by BUG.

I had this file from RevolutionsDCM that when copied to the CustomAssets folder it allows the :espionage: building, you'll have to check to see if the conversions are good, but it does work without overwriting anything.

I can't tell you how much I like BUG and BULL. They make the game so much better. I can't believe Firaxis never did those changes themselves, as a good UI is essential for a game.

However, (I seem to always have buts or howevers, don't I?) I think that BULL doesn't go quite far enough. My main last complaint is with civics. It's very hard for players to tell how much extra gold a civic with High Upkeep but +10% gold in all cities vs a civic with low upkeep and -5% gold in all cities will give. Sure, we could calculate this all by hand, but my games are slow enough. I would love it if there was some "Actual Effects" hover for civics as well, so players could judge the best civics, on the fly.

See LM, didn't even have to wait until monday... hope your happy!
I am very happy, thank you. :D

Now I have to install it. I had it downloaded last Sunday, but had to make an emergency trip to Ireland, and I couldn't play until today. :(

I've been going crazy with anticipation all week!

This is the one reason I will sometimes reload in a single player game, to see what effect a civic change will have. I would LOVE to be able to tell what my numbers will be after a civic change, but it had always struck me as something that might require too much calculation, but I really have no idea.
