Iran would like to make the following claimants using the advantage of our imperial prestige:

Persian Claims.png

The blue is the natural claims; the cyan is result of a Open Settlement policy ordered forth with 50 political capital.

In addition we will monitor the Jumhuriat Sirin for any transactions again us; they already lay on core lands of our empire but for now we will keep to a peace while His Imperial Majesty continues to oversee the dawning of this most glamorous and serene epoch.

The Shahanshah desires to move Iran forward into not just territorial expansion but economic too: we will set 8EP into productivity.

It would be well to bank the remaining 50 political capital.

Update One: Out of the Frying Pan...

dhm1666detail.jpg

June 15, 1921

I remember when I first entered Krakow - the new Krakow. Even one such as me, who had never been to that city before, could see that it had changed completely. This was the ground zero of a great revolution, one that did not merely change the political order of this part of the world, but had changed minds and hearts as well.

The Krakowians had, among them, enough Polish nationalists, men of letters, and black-elbowed engineers and practical workers who, sandwiched between the three great Empires of Eastern Europe, had made a living surviving in circumstances that would claim lesser peoples. When the Catastrophe spread, the Krakowians rose - I learned it was the Krakowians first of anyone who had fielded the mighty warmechs.

I studied these machines as my first great task, going to the Krakow Industrial Institute once I had made myself settled. Once they learned who I was, I had no further trouble being ingratiated into their presence. They were rough people, practical but hard-nosed by years of bitterness, and yet idealistic in their own way. They believed in their new republic, in their science, and in the strength of their new Armia Krajowa - armed thus with the new weapons of their devising - to keep the enemies that had once dominated the Polish nation at bay. This was their philosophy, and it led them to build great things.

It wasn't before long that these walking suits of armor, spewing smoke and lugging cannons, facilitated the development of pancerny - a form of armored automobile, with wheels or some conveying track, that mounted a cannon and could move rapidly down roads or, in the case of the tracked models, across open country as well. These machines were not very agile like the warmech, and struggled in difficult terrain - again much unlike the warmech - but their design followed from the design of the British "tanks" during the war. Between these new machines, the prevailing attitude among the Krakowian military engineers was that war was evolving.

Once I satisfied my initial curiosity, I kept a thumb on these affairs and went to study the word from beyond the city - safely nestled behind the gun-bristling and machine-guarded walls of Krakow, I was determined to hear the news from abroad. It trickled in, with refugees here and there, but once the Krakowians had admitted the Belarussian trade mission, there was a flood of information. I put pen to paper and began recording all I heard.

In North America, four nations had risen amidst the collapse of the United States and Mexico: the People's Confederacy of Dixie, located in the American southlands, a communistic nation of southern proles, was by Washington's reckoning in rebellion against the states, marking the second time in only 50 years this troubled region rebelled against the federal government's authority. In the west, the Californians and Cascadians had created their own republic, which they called the Union of the Pacific, and instituted their bureaus and governments towards the object of sensible well-maintained government. And Mexico, almost entirely, had become the domain of the Iglesia de Señora de las Sombras - which I understand means the Church of the Lady of Shadows. Whatever happened there, I had the feeling that the sudden precipitous rise of the occult was hard at work.

And none too soon there, for the occult had become lively in all parts of the world, too. I heard rumors that some strange brotherhoods had acquired a feudal authority in the lands of the trans-Pyrenees, a region dubbing itself the Kingdom of the Pyrenees, among a plethora of other smaller so-called kingdoms as well, which the Andorrans had clearly established as puppets to themselves. Here, it was said that an aloof and distant aristocracy controlled the purse strings of the Andorran mercenary armies with some tight cunning, and pacified this region through their expansive rule - a pacification well-tolerated at the time, but which given the Pyrenean mindset seems increasingly of a concern to them. The Timorian Empire, located in the distant orient, was similarly engaged - but closer to home was the Nachtverband Rhein und Sachsen, a curious and sanguinary nation that performed blood-bedazzled rituals after the Kaiser was killed. However this nation coalesced in the revolution is unclear to me, but whichever force or madness has overcome that people has all the outwards appearance of a cult, by the reckoning of those passing through. Not just any cult, but a cult of xipes, flayings, and the stringing up of entrails.

Small wonder, then, that both the United Kingdom - which against all odds had survived the perils, though I am told with a great loss of power in the outlands - and the Commonwealth of Scandinavia - a military order of Nordic nations - had declared the war against Germany unresolved, and no peace since the Great War valid. Thus did the fires of war blaze up again and the lands of Westfalen consumed in war.

I was told that the British had in their repertoire an entire division of pancerny and issued a conscription of the people for another tour of duty in war. Unlike the Great War, however, the great celerity and combat power of the pancerny, and the unpreparedness with which the Nachtverband was prepared to face invasion, left these lands wide open to the rampages of the British wave. Although many of these soldiers, having served their tour, are headed home, the initial push allowed the British to claim a large swath of Germany's northwest from the Nachtverband. The British advance was never convincingly stopped at any point, and now in June rests comfortably in Sachsen, having split the Nachtverband in two. As I said, it is expected many British soldiers re-conscripted for this final push will be cycled out, but the resources of the British are far from depleted and a renewed investment effort could produce fresh troops needed to continue the offensive.

A different scene played out in Moselland, where British reconnaissance groups attempted to stake the unoccupied territories surrounding the Nachtverband. However, these groups were foiled by the presence of a single Nachtverband enlisted division, which overpowered these settlers and forced them back to Wallonia, where they now lick their wounds. The Nachtverband's reconsolidation of the German nation in the midst of this war secured them a large frontier and a significant back channel for future operations, from which it is possible this cult may be able to stage a come-back: the large Nachtverbander army of enlisted regulars stands ready and drilling for another fight, and the Nachtverbander Panzer Korps, which halted the British cavalry advance in Niederbayern, stands ready to deliver a counterattack of its own against the thinning British ranks.

In Pomerania, a single Nacthverband infantry corps was engaged by a large army of Scandinavian conscripts, led by a fearsome corps of "Scandinavian kommandos." Little is confirmed about them except that they very capably disarmed and dispatched the Nachtverbander defending forces and routed them from the province without a month. Whereas the Nachtverbander and British fought on even grounds, the Scandinavian forces seem highly capable, wielding their weaponry with superior tactics and utilizing a superior suite of devices to accomplish their war aims. The construction of new supply lines and the relative slowness compared to the wide-fronted British offensive, spearheaded by quick-moving cavalry and tanks, slowed the Scandinavian advance by comparison, but not so much they were not able to gain ground after all.

At the current tally, with the British and Scandinavian conscripts cycling out, the Nachtverbander army is larger than both or either of them. But with the tightening resource situation and the prevailing strength of the North Sea coalition whereby it may continue to arm itself for prolonged engagement, the time that the Berliners have is limited. Reports indicate growing disunity amongst the Nachtverbanders as they despair of their chances against conquest, this renewal of the war seeming dim, but that is only matched by the ferocity of German resistance cells within the British and Scandinavian-occupied territories, which continue to tie down some measure of those nations' offensive capabilities.

In other parts of the world, renewed war does not seem to be the order of the day - yet. Many trade convoys pass with British and Argentine flags to all four corners, the new Argentine Republic and the dominion of New Zealand being trading powers that rival the once uncontestable British island. The Sombras church has run into conflict with its neighbors in Dixie, with Dixie settlers being turned away by an armed mission from Mexico City. The Iranian empire, resurgent, has laid claims to parts of the Omani trade federation of the Jumhuriat Sirin, and the independent Zanzibar Republic has come to loggerheads with the neighboring Ethiopian Empire.

Special Events-
Choose one of the listed responses to gain the appropriate bonus. Ignoring the event dismisses all possible options. You can also Improvise a Solution for a hidden, different trade-off, based on roleplay and your creativity.

People's Confederacy of Dixie - Our border tensions with the Church of Sombras inflamed when they denied our claim to Texas. Now some hawkish elements in the People's Congress are demanding action be taken to assert our claim thereto. However others are arguing this represents a new opportunity.
-We should prepare to teach those Mexicans a lesson. (Gain 1d6 free Military Tech investment, gain 1d6 Army Drill, lose 2d6 Political Capital.)
-Live and let live; and do business. (Gain 3d6 free Productivity investment, lose 1d6 Unity.)

Heavenly Kingdom - In Owari, some people are resisting the spread of our holy word. The high courts of the Heavenly Kingdom are consumed with debate over how to approach these malcontents.
-It's for their own good. (Gain 1d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Political Capital.)
-A heresy tax will do them. (Gain 2d6 banked EP, lose 1d6 Unity.)

Nachtverband Rhein und Sachsen - The invading enemies have inspired many political dissidents within our nation to claim that we are incapable of protecting Germany from the invaders. The question has arisen how we will marshal the people against this threat.
-We must pull together as one Germany, or assuredly die separately. (Gain 5d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Productivity, lose 1d6 Expertise.)
-Perhaps these dissidents should experience life on the front lines for a change. (Gain 5d6 Unity, lose 2d6 Army Quality.)

Union of the Pacific - We've struck gold - black gold! There's a lot of demand for this gooey black substance, and our nation seems to have it in spades. We can sell it, but economists warn that selling too much may be bad for inflation. On the other hand, we can invest the proceeds, but this may irritate the people.
-GOLD!! (Gain 3d6+6 banked EP, lose 2d6 Finance.)
-A penny saved is a penny earned. (Gain 1d6 free Productivity investment, gain 1d6 free Expertise investment, gain 1d6 free Military Technology investment, lose 2d6 Unity.)

Belarusian Democratic Republic - To our west a new war rages, and plenty of German refugees have spilled across the border. Speaking the wrong language and mostly penniless, the question "What to do with them?" has been raised.
-They have two hands, they can work. (Gain 1d6 free Productivity investment.)
-Why do anything with them? GET OUT!! (Gain 1d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Political Capital.)

Argentine Republic - Our trade is booming, and our exports - however landed gentry in our nation are worried this policy disadvantages them. Petitions are being made demanding that we limit our exports.
-Why should we care what they think? Argentina needs self-made men. (Gain 2d6 free Expertise investment, lose 1d6 Unity.)
-Agree to make some concessions. (Gain 1d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Finance.)

Commonwealth of Scandinavia - The enemy is on the run and our warriors are proud! Pundits in our nation are arguing that we should use this opportunity to claim a viking mantle. However, it's possible this may alienate some intelligentsia.
-We are vikings! (Gain 1d6 Army Drill, gain 1d6 Political Capital, lose 1d6 Expertise.)
-We are civilized conquerors. (Gain 1d6 Unity, gain 1d6 Political Capital, lose 1d6 Army Quality.)

Iran - Our neighbors in Jumhuriat Sirin are shaking in their boots at our hostile rhetoric. It's possible we can abuse this, but how?
-Their lands are ours by right. (Gain 1d6 Army Drill.)
-Maybe they'll be interested in trade. (Form free Trade Route with Jumhuriat Sirin, gain 1d6 free Expertise investment.)

Kaiserreich Brasilien - The newly acquired territory of Uruguay has experienced several protests against our rule lately. Some are even asking Argentina come and liberate them. We need something to deal with these malcontents.
-Crush them. (Gain 1d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Political Capital.
-Bribe their leaders. (Gain 1d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Finance.

United States of America - The stock market is booming, but there are some worries that the communists to our south may come and take our toothbrushes. The business leaders demand some guarantees that such enemies will be dealt with, if they come.
-Assure them the south is nothing to fear. (Gain 2d6 Finance, lose 1d6 Unity.
-Perhaps we should increase military spending? (Gain 2d6 free Military Technology investment, lose 1d6 Finance.)

New Zealand - We are a safe nation, isolated from many of the worst troubles of the world, at least for now. Immigrants arrive in droves looking to create a new life in our unspoiled and safe dominion.
-Our doors are always open. (Gain 1d6 free Productivity investment.)
-And who let this rabble in? (Gain 1d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Political Capital.)

Dominion of East India - The loss of British capital is causing some financial troubles for us, but our banking experts think they have a plan to control inflation and inject new capital into the economy - however some of the people may not quite comprehend it.
-It's for their own good, and ours as well. (Gain 2d6 Finance, lose 1d6 Unity.)
-Best not rattle the parrot's cage. (Gain 1d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Finance.)

Kingdom of the Pyrenees - Our little dominions are off to a start, but it's a slow one. Some of them need help. We can give it to them, but aren't they supposed to be helping us?
-The tributary relationship goes both ways. (Gain 2d6 Political Capital, lose 1d6 Finance.)
-They pay tribute to US. (Gain 2d6 Finance, lose 1d6 Political Capital.

Iglesia de Señora de las Sombras - Many folks are becoming indoctrinated into our church and it's starting to have effects on their daily lives. They are loyal, dogmatic, and do not question our authority. Clearly we can take advantage of this.
-It is honorable to die in battle. (Gain 2d6 Army Drill, lose 1d6 Political Capital.
-Work not for yourself but for the Church. (Gain 2d6 free Productivity investment, lose 1d6 Political Capital.

Provisional All-Russian Government - Russia is big, but divided. If we are to restore the peace and make Russia whole again, we will have to clear out the pretenders and bring our rule to them whether they want it or not. The question is which way is best?
-The slow and deliberate way. (Gain 2 extra territory claims.)
-The harsh and quick way. (Gain 1d6 Army Drill.)

United Kingdom - Germans in occupied territory are creating resistance cells, attempting to sabotage the operations of our brave men at the front. An answer is required.
-Crucify offenders. Show no mercy. (Gain 2d6+3 Unity, gain 2d6 Political Capital, lose 1d6 Army Drill.)
-Infiltrate their cells and sting them. (Gain 2d6+3 Unity, gain 1d6 Army Drill, lose 2d6 Political Capital.)

Republic of Zanzibar - The neighboring Ethiopians seem suspicious of our intentions, perhaps they fear an attack? We should find a way to handle this.
-Let them cower. (Gain 1d6 Unity.)
-Tell them we mean no harm. (Gain 2d6 Political Capital.)

Sokoto Caliphate - Our jihad in Benin has gone well, but we have captured some whites who openly deny the Prophet and the supremacy of our leadership. Now some are questioning what we need to do with them.
-Make an example of them to the other nonbelievers using nails and crosses. (Gain 2d6 Unity, lose 1d6 Political Capital.)
-Sometimes the gentlest touch is strongest. (Gain 3d6 Political Capital, lose 1d6 Unity.

STATS (Turn 1)
*totally updated, yo as of Wed-Dec-13-10.36 AM GMT

NEW PLAYERS, you can join:
Spoiler NEW PLAYERS :

  • As one of the NPCs, ready-made. You may make some alterations to the NPC if you like, and feel free to tell me about them. If you want to completely change the NPC, that is okay, but please write a story explaining how the revolution occurred!
  • As a NEW nation in unoccupied territory, claiming between 8 and 12 territories. If you claim more than 8 territories, your starting finance score will be reduced by an appropriate amount to reflect the expansion demerit that already-existing nations already have to deal with.
  • As a REBEL NATION in someone else's country. In order to do this, you select one province and secretly PM me who you would like to rebel against, identifying the province. If your rebellion ends up being crushed, the country you rebelled against will get a nice unity and political capital bonus for crushing you, and you cannot join as a rebel against them again for the rest of the game.

The next (second) update will consist of the time from June 15, 1921 to December 31, 1921.

To send orders (which you may post in the thread or PM to me, and please do clearly label your PMs with your country name), you should:

  • Explain how you're investing your Economic Power this turn. Unused EP is banked up to a certain limit. Your banked EP is listed separately from your income in the stats.
  • Explain where you will put your claims (you do not have to use all claims; unused claims will be banked). Your allotted claims are listed in the stats in the appropriate field.
  • Explain any trade deals you're forming, and with whom (they must be confirmed by the other party as well in their own orders). If a trade deal you made in a previous turn appears to be missing, you'll have to try again. This is the "Crezth fecked up" rule.
  • Explain how you're using your Political Capital, if you are.

*If you claim another player's claim or vice-versa, a coin will be flipped. You can hedge your chances by sending troops. NPCs will not claim the same territory as PCs but they may threaten you.

NEW Rule: A special government type called "Vassal" has been added because J.K. Stockholme had such a bright idea. This government type only gains 1 claim per turn for 5 turns instead of the normal amount, earns only 5 Political Capital per turn, and pays 20% of its income to its suzerain. In exchange vassals gain 1 free investment per turn. Suzerains pay 1 Political Capital per vassal they control.

That's the size of it. Go forth!

Get thee thy orders in no later than Saturday, December 23, please and thank you.

Okay restless minders, thanks for sending orders those of you that did, the update is in the kiln and I need some time to work on it, as I'm on vacation and such, therefore consider the deadline pushed back to the new year!! I'll make update on January 2 and be working on it continuously until then, so orders sent between now and then will still be considered!

In the meantime, to write stories and making of diplomacy, you can be getting special event and quest opportunities! Let's build your countries together!

Work on the update has begun earnestly! It is indeed coming a bit later than promised, but I had a day of travel and am still jetlagged and have recently come down with sick. Nevertheless, forging ahead.
