Return of the sword

I'm interested. I don't know whether I fit into the super, mega awesome bracket. But I used to be pretty good at MP Civ back in the day (as Churchill1) --- may be someone can vouch for that...

Also, before you properly consider me I'm not all that clear on how Pitboss works. If people are playing and I have to leave does the AI take over? If not how are others able to complete their turns when I'm not there?

After the clarifications it seems that I was wrong to deny you a spot!!

So let me explain about pitboss...The game is online all the time and you have 24 hours to take your turn. So every turn lasts about 24 hours unless all players hit enter before (simultaneous turns).

If you are away some day you have to either que moves or even better have a sub to play the turn/s for you. The game will only stop for a few days during big holidays (Easter/Christmas & summer).

So basically it is about logging in the game everyday to play 1 move (maybe 2 if you are last to play). Time needed depends on how fast you play, some people need 1 minute others 3 hours...

Double moves are banned. So you cannot move last in a turn and then first to gain an advantage, you must wait for your opponent to move first. That applies only in combat, not in settling or bulbing/hammer rushing etc.

If double move rule rule is broken the game will be reloaded to a point before the double move.

So this is roughly it, it is nothing major and you will get the hang of it easily. Only restriction is having the time each day to log in and play your move.

So if you want a spot, it is yours :)

OK. Bit concerned about that! Will give it some thought before throwing my hat into the ring. IndianSmoke - I'll read and digest your post first.

Edit: One move a day isn't really an "absolute commitment of your personal life"...

Sorry, I pushed it a little too far then :D

But depending on the pitboss the 'actual' limit is 24H but everyone does/expect twice a day, which is another story, + think about holidays.
It's like a pet  -doesn't look like it, but always have to be in mind...

I did have a bad PBEM experience in my early WL days (was suppose to be a group thing, and I ended up alone), it was really a pain to get bi-daily e-mails just to be surrounders by swords & archer on every tile and press 'Enter' :D. So now I make sure everyone sticks to its word & fully understand the concept. At 1 turn a day, normal speed, we're talking over a year to reach indus/modern era...and they're will be players (1-2, perhaps 3) very on top by the mid-Medieval era already.

We'll have fun ;)

We can do quick speed if people agree, I put normal speed in the hope that we will have some single player players around, but it does not look like it!

At quick speed we are looking at 10 month finish.

2metraninja pointed me here, so I figured I'd pop in and say hi. Even if I do qualify, I'm not sure I'll be able to play in this one... considering I've just started another similar game requiring spoilers (here), and I'm not sure if I can realistically fit in the time to do another spoiler thread as well as finishing off the time-consuming MTDG Warmup (entering the age of nukes with probably 1000+ units on the map).

Still, I'll continue to watch here with interest, and if you're still really short on players in a few more days (assuming you want me at all ;) ), I can think about joining. Let me know.

You do qualify Lord Parkin, so if you feel you have the time you are in :)

So we have 4 players registered and are waiting a reply from Pixie, Warningu2, Plako and Lord Parkin.

Can you guys please reply whether you are participating or not?

I'll pass. I've started 2 new long term MP games lately. At this point it would be alright but after half a year I would have 3 games at peak workload simultaneously. That is just too much for me.

Regular speed would also be fine with me. I guess I would even prefer it.

Like plako I think I'll also have to pass. Realistically I don't have the time to fit in another game at the moment... let alone down the track when it's more time consuming. There's also the minor point that wheel-type maps are really not my thing - I simply prefer less predictability in maps, just a personal thing.

All the best with this game though, hope you can find your eight. I'll certainly lurk from time to time once the game's going. :)

Thanks for the invite. Sadly I haven't the time to participate in a pitboss game at the moment. Hope it all goes well!

Sorry, but I can't seem to enjoy a Civ-game on an artificial/symmetric map. I hope you'll find enough players though, Indiansmoke!

So we are still 4 and looking for another 4. Interest seems very low, but I will give it another week or so before declaring this attempt a failure.

Hello ! Here is Ponti - administrator from www.civilization.org.pl [POL][KAC] ,many thanks dvametraninja for invitation to this game.Right now we are playing very big Pitboss game for over 20 players .We'll revert soon with information who wants to participate from us.

Looks interesting :) not so big game as our Dyplo which we play right now for seventh time (once we had over 30 players, playing for half year with one turn per day :) ) but still interesting. Sign me in if you can!
