Rule Britannia!
With the launching of three new aircraft carriers, HMS Ark Royal, HMS Illustrious and HMS Invincible, and six new Victory class battleships, HMS Victory, HMS Valiant, HMS Vengeance, HMS Vanquish, HMS Vanguard and HMS Vigilant, as well as the 13 (one extra was built) famous Dreadnought class battleships launched earlier, the Royal Navy has proven that Britain is the world's premier naval power. Also, the launching of the new Trafalgar class of submarines gives Britain a new unseen striking power.
Only the Aztec Navy outnumbers us, and Britain will strive to overcome that numerical advantage, despite the huge toll on the economy that creating such a naval power has made.
With our medium air force too, and the aeroplanes based on the carriers, Britain will rule the skies, the new sea as many have called it.
And Britain's army is not suffering either, its size matching the biggest the world has to offer.
Britain strides forward into these new and uncertain times, sure of one thing.
That Britannia rules the waves!
New Ship Bios
The new Ark Royal class aircraft carrier can carry 90 biplanes (60 fighters and 30 bombers), 3 squadrons of 30 (20 Bristol Bulldog fighters and 10 Rolls Royce Eagle bombers). 18" steel makes the flight deck nearly impenetrable, and fires less of a hazard, while the 12" armour surpasses all but the Victory class battleships. Driven by the same steam turbines as that ship (apart from the decks, they are actually the same), sihps of this class can reach 24 knots.
The Victory class battleships are the most powerful afloat, armed with twelve 16" guns and 12" thick armour, with an overall speed of 24 knots, making them also one of the fastest ships afloat, due to their steam turbines that reduce the vibration caused by the engine, making range-finding easier and more accurate, and allow for the speed increase.
The Dreadnought class battleships are based on those developed by the Germany Navy, except they carry ten 14" guns, instead of ten 12" guns, are slightly bigger and the steam turbines have been increased in size, managing to reach the 24 knots demanded by the specification. The armour has also been increased - 12" thick.
The Trafalgar class submarines are amongst the quietest and hardest to detect in the world. They have an overall surface speed of 24 knots, and a submerged speed of 16 knots.
The Warrior class destroyers and the Castle class frigates meet the 24 knots demanded by the specification of the Ministry of Defence using the new steam turbines that were developed for this huge project. The Warrior is armed with two 6" guns and six 4" guns, with 8" thick armour, while the Castle class has two 4" guns and four 3" guns, and 6" thick armour.
