Empirilists (interested in the creation of a Portugease Sea Empire, by any means necessary)- 130
United Workers of Portugal (basically a socialist party)- 100
Old Republicans (a centrist party that wishes to strengthen the military, but at a pace to keep the high standard of living)- 140
New Iberia Party (wishing for the opening of trade with every nation, and the pressuring of France to free Spain)- 30
After the Old Republicans and Empirilists were in a hot seat race for over 120 years, the control has gone back to the Old Republicans. A new power is rising in the southern provinces of Beja-Faro and Portalegre, being identified as the United Workers of Portugal. It will be very hard for them to gain control, though, unless it spreads to some of the richer provinces. A very new party, being formed from the leftovers of the Monarchists and Freedom Parties, named the New Iberia Party, is causing some buzz. Its first thing on the agenda is to open trade to every country all the time, very much a communist theory which hasnt even been adopted by the UWP. Its second issue is whats causing the most controversy. They wish to pressure the politicians in France to free the conquered people of Spain. This has caused a spike in curiosity at the party, and it managed to grab 30 seats mainly from thier home province of Guardo.

"Sir, I hate that line." said Private Vigo. "Me too, private. Kinda throws a wrench in our plans" General Alameda said, bringing down his binocular set, "Vigo, go down into the fort and get me a better pair of binoculars, I have some studying to do"

Infront of the Portugeuse Advisory Council with a situation map of Europe behind him
(red is European Powers, brownish is European Alliance, dark blue is Iron Fist Alliance, red squares with gray lines is the maginot line)
, the Military Department Secretary began "Hello friends and fellow council seaters. I am here today to discuss several points. Number one. As you might have heard, The French have constructed a large series of interconnected forts named the Maginot Line. This line stretches across the Portugease-French Border and the French-German one as well. It is extremeley well manned and loaded on weaponry. This fort is suposedly to deter any invasion attempts. Questions are welcome"
Rasing his hand, the Domestic Advisor spoke,"Sir, excuse me but how are we to counter this?"
"Domestic Advisor, we currently have a plan to set up a similair wall"
Next was the Porto Governer," Sir, please explain how well the system defends"
"Very well. It works like this, a long system of forts, no too far apart. They are integrated to work together in any attack. Now, if thier are no more questions, may we continue onto number 2..."

We see you have an awfully out-of-the-way colony in the Azores, way far from your homeland. We would be glad to take these islands off your hands and let you keep a base or two.
