Incas 12
Khmer 12
Malians 11 (14 - 3) -- Nothing personal, but they're the least interesting on this list now.
Mayans 12 (11 + 1) -- The Mayans were for most of the Middle Ages the leading civilization in the New World, with remarkable sciences and cultural achievements. Plus Yucatec Maya is just an incredibly euphonic language, IMO.

Mongols 12

Incas 13 my faves from the start
Khmer 12
Malians 14
Mayans 11
Mongols 12-3=9 they're important but not urgent

I fixed the score because civviefan didn't take Zaarin's votes into account

Incas 13
Khmer (12+1)=13 SE Asia is still unrepresented in Civ6, and the Khmer are one of my top choices to represent the region.
Malians 11
Mayans 12
Mongols (9-3)=6 Genghis can wait until 2018. Their Horse Archer zerg rush would differ little from Scythia except for difference in era.

This is what I found supposedly said by someone in Firaxis:
"Well we had a really long talk about [the Mongols] and whether we should include them in this installment of the series. Eventually we started asking ourselves if it was just time to move in different direction completely and if maybe we could find a less 'controversial' alternative. The Mongols were known for committing mass rape and murder and just kind of being jerks {laughs}, and how would people feel if we included someone like Hitler in the game? We still wanted to have a nomadic horse people from the steppe though, and eventually someone suggested the Scythians led by Queen Tomyris, who most people never even heard about. I remember we were doing our research on her and Steven literally asked me "How have I never heard of this woman?" So yes, that really fit into the vision we wanted to have of showing off lesser known but still larger-than-life personalities. It was like the stars aligned, basically. Of course Genghis Khan can still show up as a great general, but I'll probably delete him if I ever get him." {laughs}"

@civviefan and @Guandao: Looks like you missed Zaarin's votes above yours.

Here's a corrected tally with the latest votes:

Incas 13
Khmer 13
Malians 11
Mayans 12
Mongols 6

Sorry for the post without vote, but if this story is true, it is simply and utterly ridiculous, and Firaxis should get a better historical consultant (mongols being known for rape, murder and being jerks ... oh my ... O think an historian died there), and not add Rome (massive killing on Carthage and abusive slavery), Greece (massive slavery), Spain (slavery, almost genocide on mesoamerica and inquisition), Aztecs (cannibalism, human sacrifices), France (genocide try ont the huguenots, massive killing in the italian wars and slavery), Germany (genocide during nazism, massive killing on hussites), England (massive slavery and killings throughout their colonies), USA (massive slavery and persecution on different minorities, including natives), Macedon (slavery and mass killings on razing cities), China (massive killings, slavery), Japan (massive killings during the wars against Korea or XXth century, forced prostitution, slavery), Brazil (almost genocide on paraguayans), Russia (slavery, mass kilings, persecution on minorities), Norway (massive killings, piracy), and so on. It is utterly ridiculous : every empire practiced rape, killings among others, and I'm so astonished I'm out of words ! It is acceptable to add vikings and violent colonialists but not the mongols !? I ... I'm speechless ... and sad ...

Indeed. If we're going to whitewash history, I'm pretty certain every current and potential civ in game just got disqualified.

And let's not talk about the leaders : Harald who probably butchered a lot of peopla as a conqueror and as a varangian guard ; Catherine, one of the responsibles for the Saint-Barthélemy massacres ; Philipp II who reinforced the inquisition and forced in the low countries, leading to the 80 years war ; Qin Shi Huang who killed thousands out of paranoia and made builders work to death for his great wall ; Montezuma I who was one of the bloodiest tlatoanis ever ; Peter I, who killed his own son and tons of builders to build Saint Petersburg ; Trajanus who I'm sure was very kind to the people he fought against ; they're beloved Alexander who razed numerous cities and considered himsels as the son of a god ; Victoria, whose era is known for the peak of the british colonial empire ; Pericles who manipulated all other greek cities for Athens to prosper ; etc.
They should disable the possibility to raze cities ... heck even to declare war ! They should impeach the mulitary victory at all.

I'm sorry, I'll stop here with my wrathful and morose spam, but I felt the urge to let out my anger ...

Don't worry, I did some research on this supposed statement by the Firaxis employee, and it's not true. It was made up by someone on reddit. Mongolia will return eventually.

Incas 13
Khmer 13
Malians 12 (11+1) besides filling an empty spot on the map, there's potential for an interesting trade-related scenario
Mayans 12
Mongols 3 (6-3) no complaints that it's top 5, but I'm interested in seeing the others on this list first (well, on second thought, there's at least one eliminated civ I'd like to see above this one as well)

Incas 13+1=14
Khmer 13-3=10
Malians 12
Mayans 12
Mongols 3

Our next civs are going to be African and SEA, so Khmer already has a good chance of coming back soon. The Inca are not in the forseeable future which I think they very much deserve to be.

Incas 14
Khmer 10
Malians 12+1=13 - My favourites.
Mayans 12
Mongols 3-3=0 (ELIMINATED) - With Scythia in game, there is no major need for Mongols. At least not now. Bye!

Incas 14
Khmer 11 = (10 + 1)
Malians 13
Mayans 9 = (12 - 3)

It's crunch time now, and never a harder choice, since I 100% want all of these civs in the game as soon as possible. I have to pick an order though, and based entirely on the gaps that exist in the game right now, southeast Asia and (native) South America come first. Sorry Mayans, but with the relative proximity of the Aztecs, you are, regrettably, the least urgent addition.

We know we're getting an African and a southeast Asian civ soon, which I only hope are the Khmer and Mali. After that they certainly ought to add the Inca. I'm just up voting the Khmer because they're at risk of losing out.

it's getting really difficult, tempted for this to be my last vote

Incas 14+1=15 (important civ, hoping for a mountainous playstyle and map interaction more than in previous Civ iterations)
Khmer 11
Malians 13
Mayans 9 -3 = 6 (with the Aztecs and the Incas, the Mayans inevitably feel less urgent)

Incas 15-3=12 I feel like we're already more likely to get them out of the remaining choices, since SA has very limited options.
Khmer 11
Malians 13
Mayans 6+1=7 Keeping them in the fight just a moment longer.

Incas 12 + 1 = 13 I look forward to seeing how the Incas will be worked on in their interaction with hills and mountains.
Khmer 11
Malians 13 - 3 = 10 Well, I really want Mali in the game, but choices have to be made.
Mayans 7

Incas 14
Khmer 11
Malians 7 (10 - 3) -- Same as before: they're the least interesting civ left.
Mayans 5 (4 + 1) -- Given that the Mayans' accomplishments far outstripped those of the Aztec, I really think the Mayans are the ones who ought to be in the base game. I mean, the Aztecs were only beginning their golden age when disease and gunpowder wiped them out.

Incas 14 - 3 = 11 I think the Inca should come in second place IMO, I love the Inca but alongside my Asian civs bias, the Khmer are really important and interesting in the scope of SE Asia. We will UNDOUBTEDLY get the Inca at some point. They are THE South American civ. We are not guaranteed to get the Khmer when I think that we should.
Khmer 11 + 1 = 12 Above answer pretty well explains this choice.
Malians 7
Mayans 5

Incas 11
Khmer (12+1)=13 Fingers crossed that this is the SE Asian civ in the upcoming DLC, maybe Eagle Pursuit is not interested in the Khmer? ;)
Malians 7
Mayans (5-3)=2 Fourth place is an acceptable spot for them, we have the Aztecs to represent Mesoamerica currently, plus they stole their ballcourt (stepped pyramid is kinda boring for a UB/I/D name), the pyramid in the background of Montezuma I looks like the one in Chichen Itza for some reason, bring them back in the first expansion with a different leader than Pacal, and I'm sold
