RevolutionDCM for BTS

@RiHatz
Nice test Ri-Hatz this could simplify finding the issue. I think your game options were all off....question is, had you modified your RevDCM 2.5 build in any way like adding a module or anything?

@Jabarto
Excessive. That is ridiculous. I have not seen any problems with distance penalties yet. Can you remember what conditions you discovered this in? ie) map size and your era?

Cheers

The map was standard sized. I started in the ancient era. It happened as soon as I founded my second city. I've since changed the CloseRadius field from 10 to 30 (and it now works pretty well, so far) so I don't know if I can replicate it now, but I know for a fact I'm not the only one who had the problem. Some others mentioned it in the ROM 2.7 feedback thread.

It also happened on a huge map, so I don't know that map size factors into it.

i appreciate phungus420 and others being on top of this issue... GameSpy is a difficult beast...

LoR works with directIP but not on GameSpy. Why?

Vanilla BTS works on GameSpy but no other mod after the 3.19 over rated patch.

Every common point of problem centers on GameSpy. I have not clue what PitBoss is, after studying it for hours i still cannot understand what the purpose of PitBoss is. Seriously...

Why doesnt a mod game show up on the GameSpy system? But a directIp works? What is the basic no b.s. difference in the two?

Why do mods have such a more difficult problem with GameSpy? Is it RevDCM -- what are the differences... i would strip all the details off and simplify this.

OR, once DirectIP gets easily done WTH, who cares, ignore GameSpy completely...

Rise of Mankind gets OOS errors and LoR does not, that is not the same as connectivity. Both games connect in directIP and not in GameSpy.

To me GameSpy is evil. I feel for modders and the notion of why GameSpy is such a pain in the ass!

Glad to hear Multiplayer is working. Unfortunately not for me.
I attached a screenshot of whats going on.
I tried a lan game. I even tried it without any other human players connecting. And of course I disabled Revolutions. Disabling all other game options gives the same result.

The strangest thing is this: after trying a multiplayer game, the single player custom game gets the same problem until I restart civ.

quick note, watch what map you default load into, when i started a successful directIP game the default map was something called "lots of resources" or something like this and it had an extensive options menu. when this first popped i had no idea what was happening, but gratefully i hit close and continue and chose a different map type to my simplified pleasure!

so check your default map and see if it is that complicated set up map? :crazyeye:

I have just realized that the Manhattan Project is now a national wonder instead of a world project and gives +25%:science:. When and why was this change made? Can you build nukes when another nation builds their Manhattan project national wonder? Can you still build your own even after someone else builds theirs? And is the 25%:science: not a little too powerful? It's now a natural pair with Oxford in a way no other pair of national wonders are and can get your SSC up to +375%. It does make sense when you think about the Los Alamos lab and whatnot, but it is still a pretty big change from BTS.

@glider1: you might want to mention Quot Capita as a modpack that uses RevDCM as it's heart: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=261143

Thanks!

Feel free to remove WolfRevolution from the listto make room. Also the Dune Wars mod uses RevDCM, though it's not stable yet, so you might want to hold off on adding it.

Also glider are you willing to debug multiplayer?

I tried with no options at all and with default options. I have no further modules installed. (and I get the same thing with LoR)

maybe i should reinstall civ and see if that helps.

@Ri-Hatz
A big point regarding multiplayer connectivity is the map type. There is definetly an issue even in vanilla, regarding custom maps and the way they are initialised in multiplayer. Any testing of multiplayer should just be on the standard maps initially, maps like Terra. Keep up your tests you are doing good but don't drive yourself to the wall.

@Xchen08
The Manhatten national wonder has been like that for years, and originates in the DCM mod from 1.5 years ago at least. I would be happy to change it back to vanilla for a whole suit of reasons, but it is unclear how much complaint that would generate.

@Jabarto
Dooh. Forgot the critical question, how many map tiles are you attempting to build your second city from your capital? This is the central question. I initially thought you were observing an unpredictable situation where even normal distances between cities were causing problems.

Points noted regarding new mods to credit.
Cheers.

Meh. I can only speak for myself, but I'm fine either way. It's kinda cool, but I wouldn't miss it.

Although having it, means that RevDCM can't actually be stripped down to the base game through the options screen; this change will still be there with all options off.

The first time it was two tiles away, but then I tried again with it three tiles away and got the same problem.

I have the same issue. I had a city three tiles away, that I founded revolt and eventually crush me because of the "Distant Location" problem. I'm using ROM too.

Hello,

I have a question to assist me in my personal experiment.

How do I install RevDCM in CustomAssets and besides? I want to see if I can play it directly without going to Advanced->Mods path. Do you have instructions how to turn on or whatever RevDCM mod into BtS main game? I already installed Assets files into CustomAssets, then installed the other stuff beside Assets to the folder where CustomAssets is. But when I played main BtS game, there was nothing to show that I installed RevDCM in CustomAssets, just plain old vanilla.

Thanks!

the gamecore will not load from custom assets. If you are using a custom gamecore you either must replace the original (not recommended unless you are using the BULL installer), or give the game it's own custom mod. Custom assets will not load linked libraries. The engine has been forbiden to do so since BtS.

Ah well, thank you for that info. I guess I will need to merge Extra and Next War Advanced with RevDCM hard way. What is the best procedure to go about it? Thanks!

The WoC converter is the easiest I think. If you make the stuff as modules everyone can use your work. If you go non modular everyone must recreate the wheel with your work.

Lot easier to test things when modular in my opinion. With all of that stuff I would not be so sure necessarily that I would want it all. It is easier to manage test things if they are broken down in smaller organized folders anyway.

I love WoC as you can see from RoM threads but I'm no Vincentz *lol*. So can you show me or point me to way to use WoC to merge "Extra" and "Next War Advance" to RevDCM? Because they are wimpy without RevDCM, in my opinion.

I can not write an entire tutorial on it right now, but here is the WoC Converter program.

http://wocmodules.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/wocmodules/Tools/WoC Convertor.tar.gz?view=tar

You need to have the RevDCM schema in a folder. Then the program can remove all of the unneeded tags with zeros if you select strip xml. That can really shrink down xml files quite a bit. It can also auto generate folders for you. It is not perfect but very helpful for large projects as this.

Oh you need Java for it as well. If you do not already.

Thanks, will test it.

I will get back to you if I have any questions.

I'm having a problem where the game crashes when I load a LAN game using the LoR mod. Vanilla Civ4 LAN games work and single player games with LoR work. I tried reinstalling the mod but that didn't work.
It all works fine on my friends new rig. Spent all day putting it together and we were so pumped for a game of LoR. :(
