RevolutionDCM for BTS

Has anyone reviewed the AI code for "Who to declare war on?"

I played a BtS 3.19 game today (unmodded) and was reminded how awesome the code was there for conquest of neighbors, and again I am saddened that the AI doesn't work in RevDCM.

What settings do you usually play RevDCM with? (Map size and type, options, game speed, etc.)

I've double checked the code for picking who to declare war on a couple times after seeing your comments, but it's really not much different than 3.19 or from the early versions of BBAI. In RevDCM there can be a higher than normal level of chaos and wars that are started from something other than the standard "Who do I want to declare war on?" logic.

Reworking the war declaration decision making is on the horizon for BBAI, though I don't know when exactly it will be the focus.

Duuk and others:

Thinking about it some more, perhaps the biggest issue is that the AI is easily distracted by the wars it is in. With standard RevDCM settings on Terra maps, there will be very few declarations of new wars when the old world is discovering the new as old world civs will typically get into (usually very quiet) wars with the new world natives.

The AI has up to now never considered starting a new war of choice while engaged in any war (excluding minor civs). I've just changed this (just in time for 2.6 ...), so it will start a new war if it has a huge power advantage in its existing wars. This should help a lot.

Yes. That is nice.

Finally this build is released! Big thanks to all concerned and the new beta testing cooperation on sourceforge has meant that the quality of this build is probably at an all time high. I have acknowledged everyone I can think of including myself!? in the documentation.

We have been rewarded for the long wait for this version with a special AI release for RevolutionDCM devised by the master himself, Jdog5000. For Revolutions players there are many quality improvements and the depth of game play in single player has to be experienced to be believed.

Enjoy!
Cheers

Just played a game through to 1250 with Barbarian World on. 5 Players and 5 Barbarian cities. Fighting the Minor Civs was aboslutely mad. Great work.

@Everyone
Thanks for the praise everyone it's great to share a beautiful thing like this. Jdog is very happy with the build too.

@Nutnut
Yeah that barbarian world is a beautiful option combined with start as minors! I don't think we need aggressive AI on any more for these types of experiences!

Ah the life of a modder what do you do? Was about to sit down and start a short game to experience the same as Nutnut, only to find that there was a bug in the autologger that just had to be fixed...I've submitted the fix to sourceforge and uploaded to CivFanatics as well. If you want an autologger that doesn't give you troubles, download the mod again or just replace the attached file here.
;)

Cheers

Try it with quite thin continents. In my game the Players were split into three groups. Egypt and Greece were on a seperate continent whilst Sumeria was isolated from Carthage and I by three Barbarian cities. They quickly became minor Civs and, being the closest, I was the only one fighting them. I'll try another game sometime with about 12 Civs, one continent, Barbarian World. Let the madness ensue.

@Kel
Nop the "thingy" shouldn't be there good spot. However it doesn't seem to make any difference and the option seems to turn off and on ok. :whew:

EDIT:
@Nutnut
Yeah during testing I did see the effect of barbarian cities overwhelming the full civs. However at other times I saw the reverse effect and it looks roughly 50/50 but it will take many games to see a trend either way. It is so dependent on the map shape itself as you have noted.

Cheers.

Could someone confirm that, in the save from this post, Sitting Bull has +2 with Kublai Khan for "You have wisely chosen your civics" while he should not ? As far as I know, I did not check 'random personalities' and it's way too early to have environmentalism

Sorry if I just found a bug in this very new release :lol:
