[RFC-DoC] No Cities Left Behind (The Super Secret History of the Mongols)

What version of RFC Dawn? There is no kingdom of coryeo in my version

Welcome to our historical forum Professor Whobob :). There were three mysterious letters in the Super Secret History -- SVN If we ever decipher those three letters -- that would clear all your confusion :shifty:.

Great update!

EDIT: and welcome to the forums, whobob! :band:

Great update.

Welcome to the forums! :band: :band: :band: :band:

We won't eat you, of course. :mischief:

If anyone tells you that they are more epic than I am, they are lying. Especially if the person's name is Tambien. :D

4. Whoever urinates into water or ashes
is also to be put to death.
The Great Yasa of Genghis Khan

I mean, why, why would you possibly urinate in water??? It's disgusting :vomit:! Our shamans tell me that the time will come that all the people who are going to survive our onslaught are going to urinate in so called toilets ... into water  ! They gonna need a second Genghis Khan to teach them how to use Waterless Urinals :spank:. Too bad no second genius like Genghis can possibly rise ever! So the task to keep people from urinating into water and ashes is left to my boss right now!

While he was fighting in Khwarezm and Tolui continued his protracted siege of Chinese capital domestic affairs of our Mongol Nation was entrusted to Yelü Chucai. Well versed in Buddhist scriptures and a practitioner in Daoism, Yelü Chucai had become best known for his service as the chief adviser to Genghis Khan. He was a very tall man with a magnificent beard (reaching to his waist) and sonorous voice. Chucai was given the nickname "Urtu Saqal" (Long Beard) and placed him in his retinue as an adviser. Apparently he didn't like his nickname and thus ordered his own statute with much more modest nicely trimmed beard:

His first move was to spend our last gold and promote Horse Archer Jebe to Keshik as soon as we hooked those horses next to Qara Qorum. Young but daring Jebe was sent west to join Genghis who placed him under the supervision of experienced Subutai. For the first 100 years money was always a problem for our Nation. In 1219 left with only 40 gold and bleeding more Chucai conducted some trades with Goryeo:

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

As long as Goryeo pays us tribute giving them Pikeman technology should not be a problem. They never settle behind their 2 cities but build tons of useless units wondering all around the planet -- I guess Eternal Blue Sky sometimes known as Leoreth designed them that way.

Our troops in China finally achieved a breakthrough on that blessed year of AD 1225!

Civ4ScreenShot0009.jpg

After very exhausting siege and loss of Catapult and Crossbowman our foot troops made their way into Chang'an, or Xi'an. One of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, having held the position under several of the most important dynasties in Chinese history, including Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, and Tang, Xi'an is the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and home to the Terracotta Army. We even discovered an Academy before all the looting and fun took place:

Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

After this terrible blow Chinese capital moved to Hangzhou making it a natural to call China Southern Song. Yelü Chucai advised to start peace negotiation so that proud Chinese civilization would acknowledge their defeat and start to pay tribute to our Nation:

Civ4ScreenShot0011.jpg

Our victory in China provided us with cash, prestige and also new Great General -- Batu Khan. Son of Juchi he and his brother Berke took charge over the Juchi Ulus and started the long migration towards the Russian lands -- lands that Genghis Khan awarded to his oldest son, after they get conquered, that is. People of Chagatai Ulus also joined the departing Hordes:

Civ4ScreenShot0012.jpg

Meanwhile in Khwaresm Genghis Khan ordered to bypass terrible Kandahar and less intimidating Isfahan and cross Independent lands without fight in order to deliver a mighty blow to our second enemy -- the Shah of Khwaresm who made himself a capital in Shiraz:

Civ4ScreenShot0013.jpg

Our warriors laughed when they saw who was protecting this capital -- some petty Catapult! However we came into contact with the Byzantines and this was not a laughing matter at all. Byzantine Empire was the leading empire of that time and they had a great force assembled in Iraq. Their refusal to pay us tribute resulted in war declaration, even though this new war was very untimely.

Muslim Empire collapsed the very next turn -- from the mere sight of our hordes. This is how the known world looked like after the Muslim collapse:

Civ4ScreenShot0014.jpg

Genghis Khan charged Shiraz which came under control of some Independent warlords. It happened to be the Holy City for Zoroastrians:

Civ4ScreenShot0015.jpg

Eternal Blue Sky helped to replace this glorious un-destructible city into the city ruins. Our joy and jubilation was ruined however. The cursed independent Elephant stroke from the behind and claimed the life of Chagatai, the second son of Genghis Khan !

 I started reading this thinking that it was a byzantium story... so I was like what the.. is this for weird update.... then it hit me... it's Tigranes story about the Mongols :p

Great update. Are you going to attack byzantium?

Question: Are you going to burn rome itshelf to the ground?

Question: Are you going to burn rome itshelf to the ground?

Dear Prof. Christos! I didn't finish reading the Super Secret History but we can be sure that Ginghis Khan had it in his "to do" list. Remember the famous words to his sons: "With Heaven's aid I have conquered for you a huge empire. But my life was too short to achieve the conquest of the world. That task is left for you"

It was long known to us historians that Mongols did send a message to Rome demanding submission. Khan Guyuk wrote to Pope Innocent IV: Now you should say with a sincere heart: "I will submit and
serve you". Thou thyself, at the head of all the Princes, come at
once to serve and wait upon us! At that time I shall recognize
your submission.

If you do not observe God's command, and if you ignore my
command, I shall know you as my enemy. Likewise I shall make
you understand. If you do otherwise, God knows what I know.

At the end of Jumada the second in the year 644

As I told my colleagues before -- some of the facts in my discovered Super Secret History do not follow the general history as we all know it, though the general spirit is the same. Please keep in mind that Mongols were facing Aggressive Emperors, not Nobles or Princes, or Monarchs and so called hordes were always outnumbered and quite literary outgunned, as no research could be possibly conducted. How far could they go with one unproductive city, how long would they endure fighting the entire world? We shall find out in the next few months :crazyeye:

______

Raze all cities except Athens.

5. Whoever takes goods (on credit) and becomes bankrupt,
then again takes goods and again becomes bankrupt,
then takes goods again and yet again becomes bankrupt
is to be put to death after the third time.
The Great Yasa of Genghis Khan

:yup: Yup. Bailout -- Mongol way. We let you to default twice, but you better be careful for the third time.

The funeral of Chagatai, from Jami' al-tawarikh, or Universal History -- an Iranian work of literature and history written by Rashid-al-Din Hamadani.

Entire Mongol Nation was mourning Chagatai! He was considered hot-headed and somewhat temperamental by his relatives, because of his attitude of absolute non-acceptance of Jochi as Great Khan. He was the most vocal about this issue among his relations. After completing The Yasa Genghis Khan entrusted his second son Chagatai to enforce it and he was so adamand in doing so that many people had a great fear and respect for him. Marco Polo mentiones that not long before his death Chagatai Khan converted to Christianity but there are no other sources to support this claim.
The days of mourning were also days of reflection for Genghis Khan and Mongol elders. Unlike other wise men Mongol wise men never concern themselves with the useless silly contemplations, like "What shall we research next?.." The most important question always was and is: "Whom should we conquer next?" With Northern China conquered and Caliphate collapsed we have two more wars on our hands: the one with Russia and the other one with Byzantine Empire. There was no Baghdad in Mesopotamia in AD 1228, instead there was a Byzantine Ctesiphon, guarded by two archers:

Civ4ScreenShot0016.jpg

During the same year Genghis Khan proposed and approved the following plan:
1. Burn Ctesiphon/Baghdad to the ground!
2. Subutai and Jebe to bypass Byzantine strongholds in Caucasus and to undertake their famous raid, attacking Russia from the south.
3. Jochi has to wait in Central Asia for his grandsons Batu Khan and Berke Khan, plus our Mongol-Tatar migrants forming ulus of Jochi (Settlers) -- those forces are to attack the Russia from the east. Our migrants shall continue lead a nomad's life around the lower Volga River and never settle a city.
4. Chagatai Ulus protected by a Longbowmen should do the very same thing around the Central Asia's Ili river basin. Protection of our settlers who never settle is one of the most important goals in History of Mongols.
5. Genghis Khan, his third son and heir Ogedei will follow Subutai and Jebe across the Caucasus mountains so that all the Mongol forces could unite in Southern Russia and deliver a blow to Moscow, which oddly was the first Russian capital, instead of Kiev.
Finally....
6. Tolui and his few Chinese forces are to arrive to Middle East and mop what was left after the collapse of the Caliphate.

It's worth noting that Russia had more cities than we had Keshiks at that time so the Russian war was promising to be long and brutal. If left unchecked Russian population would spread across the Siberia like a wildfire. On the other hand our shamans predicted that Byzantium will soon loose lots of her cities to Ottoman Turks. History and strategical situation was demanding to focus on the Russia first.

Before the implementing his brilliant plant Genghis divided his Empire among the houses of his 4 sons:

Civ4ScreenShot0046.jpg

Later they will be known as Empire of the Great Khan (Yuan Dynasty), Chagatai Khanate, Ilkhanate and Golden Horde.

Our valiant Keshiks charged Baghdad/Ctesiphon. The battle was swift by siege standards: by February 5 the Mongols controlled a stretch of the wall. Byzantine mayor begged to negotiate, but was refused. On February 10, Baghdad surrendered. The Mongols swept into the city on February 13 and began a week of massacre and destruction:

Civ4ScreenShot0017.jpg

Even under Byzantine rule the city had a large Muslim community and was rich and cultured urban center. Baghdad used to be one of the most brilliant intellectual centers in the world. The Mongol destruction of Baghdad was a psychological blow from which Islam never recovered. Already Islam was turning inward, becoming more suspicious of conflicts between faith and reason and more conservative. With the sack of Baghdad, the intellectual flowering of Islam was snuffed out. Imagining the Athens of Pericles and Aristotle obliterated by a nuclear weapon begins to suggest the enormity of the blow. The Mongols filled in the irrigation canals and left Iraq too depopulated to restore them.

The advance in Iraq brought us into contact with a beautiful Queen, known as Izzy in some circles. She promptly payed requested tribute:

Civ4ScreenShot0018.jpg

:whew:, no war with Spain! :D That Byzantine SoD in Damascus (several promoted Cataphracts) is already sufficient to keep our warmongering masses happy. And sure enough -- Imperial army unleashed full blown attack on Mongol forces. Our boys fought back, heroically decapitating several thousands of Byzantine Heavy Cavalry, but we had some losses too. Most notably the third son of Genghis -- Ogedei -- found his death in flood plains of Iraq :aargh::

Civ4ScreenShot0019.jpg

He was considered to be his father's favorite son, ever since his childhood. As an adult Ögedei was known for his ability to sway doubters in any debate in which he was involved, simply by the force of his personality. He was a physically big, jovial and very charismatic man, who seemed mostly to be interested in enjoying good times. He was intelligent and steady in character. Unfortunately he was a heavy drinker and there were no RUI (Riding Under Influence) laws in Yasa!

Nice conquest, but that is looking pretty bleak for your technology research rate. Good luck in your conquests Tigranes!
