RFC Europe playtesting feedback thread

The cottage bug still hasn't been fixed in the newest version, and the "description" of how to fix it yourself is not exactly enlightening ("move Colonial Trade back"... what?). Please fix it ASAP in the next version.

Just to report a bug in my game as Germany: It is around 1250 and Prag hasn't flipped to the Austrians.

Prag is removed from the Spawning zone of the Austrians. It isn't a bug.

This game is great, I will give more feedback once I finish my first game. (My game as Burgundy and Venetia ended early as my computer shutdown without me saving. Won't make that mistake again.) But I have the highest score, second highest total land and population, but not too powerful. But I did conquer southern Iberia for the Spanish, but for the life of me, I can not get a vassal. Less powerful civs get them, but I don't even get the option. Spain vassalized Portugal, Germany got Austria and soon Austria went to Hungary. But how can I get vassal w/o capitulation?

Zach, you can always load an auto-save if something happens to your computer or CIV.

I found another issue. The English mines have +2:hammers:. And I think it isn't their UP, because it says: Workshops +1:hammers:, and not mines +2:hammers:.

Every mine in Civ4, BTS, RFC and RFCE gives +2 :hammers: bonus if built (for every civ). The only change that happened in RFCE is that you can build a mine on a forest/hill tile without the compulsory deforestation of the tile. Therefore a forest/grassland/hill tile can get 1:food: 4:hammers: with a mine.

And a response to BurnEmDown:
I played England as well and didn't get the Colonial UHV, but I'd also like to give feedback on another issue: It seems Frankia is willing to trade techs for really cheap prices. I also had this issue playing as Frankia, nobody wanted to trade techs fairly*!
Here's a screenshot showing how Frankia is willing to give so much for so little.

*I know the AI often doesn't trade fairly and will ask for more than he gives, but the trade offers I was given as Frankia were absurd!

It's a fair trade, Banking is an expensive and valuable tech, and you almost finished researching the Replaceable parts tech (and the AI knows that, and counts with that).
BTW, every leader has different willingness to tech trade with you. For example, in original RFC, Mansa Musa is a quite good trading partner. In RFCE, I found that you can get really nice tech-changing deals from Iustinian.

That was just one example, but every trade I had with Frankia was extremely rewarding, and whoever I wanted to trade with playing as Frankia just ignored my offers, for instance I think Arabia wanted 4 techs for Arabic Knowlage (which were of the same tech-level) and If I tried to give it just one and see what it would offer me it suggested about 50% of their gold which was about 200.
Edit: Wessel I put the file where you said but Cottages still won't improve! Any ideas how to fix this?

I've got a new version to release by the end of the day. Cottages will be verified to work 100% in it, so you could just wait for that...

It will mostly be little bug fixes and the addition of corporations.

Tech trading is AFAIK related to:
- attitude, Frankia is friendly so his techs are cheaper
- tech modifiers, that's why Byzantium likes to trade techs so much (just a guess though, but it might explain some strange behaviour)
- tech trading modifiers, as stated already.

Strange, cottages should grow now  Anyway, a patch is coming and sedna has a lot more coding experience than I have, so it will be fixed.

In addition to what I posted before, Spain has now got Norse as a vassal when I've been trying for centuries. How do I get a vassal?

First UHV win playing this mod. I was playing Cordoba. After conquering Spain and vassalizing Portugal, I mostly chilled inside my territory while I went for Scientific Method. I thought about detouring for Liberalism (or if it's called something else, the tech that gives you a free technology when you discover it) but saw that it was too out of the way. Good thing too, because in hindsight there's no way I could have done both, even with the Liberalism extra tech. Got Scientific Method in about 1460. I ran out of building to
construct pretty early on (1200s?) so I just set all my cities to research.

The only significant conquests after the unification of the Iberian peninsula occurred when Burgundy collapsed. I gobbled up all of southern France. *nom nom nom.* Genoa didn't get conquered by independents this game, which was nice, and Venice never spread from the two starting cities because Hungary had expanded east relatively quickly and cut them off. In the last 100 years of the game, I built about 20 Privateers and went around destroying everyone else's boats. I never lost a Privateer, b/c everyone else didn't have anything else above strength 4.

In sum, I think the "unify the Iberian Peninsula" goal should be bumped up because I conquered Spain really early on, and Portugal was trivial to conquer after that. As has been mentioned before, cottages still need fixing. And Privateers can't enter the territory of someone you don't have open borders with, which may be deliberate but just FYI. Overall a fun playing experience, if a bit boring in the middle. The tech race with Venice kept a little bit of tension on the Scientific Method race, and the fear of hurting my research rate was a nice way to keep me from going crazy with my expansion. I'm excited to see this mod develop and interested to see what the game plays like in the east. :goodjob:

Did you capitulate Portugal or did it spawn and ask to be a vassal?

He capitulated. I attacked him about 15 turns after his spawn. He only had two cities, so I razed one and he was down to three units defending his capital when I saw that he was willing to capitulate.

Reporting my latest game on Monarch as France. I got the first UHV condition easy enough and Paris was the most cultured city in the world in 1700. But that didn't register. Shortly after that I built my 3 colonies and that didn't register either. I've played on until I researched Trading Companies in 1715 and still both UHV conditions say "not yet". Both are clearly not working.
Another issue. Researching Trading Companies is supposed to be before building colonies but to get it you have to research Liberalism, Economics and Free Market. That's just not logical. Trading Companies should be right after Astronomy so at least you can start building The East India Company or the West Indian company before you start building colonies. That seems more logical and historically correct IMO.

Yes I know, but the English had the standard +2:hammers: plus another +2:hammers: bonus. So instead of 1:food:4:hammers: it had 1:food:6:hammers:. I even found a place with 9:hammers: (moorland, hills, forrest, timmer, mine combination).
