RFC Europe playtesting feedback thread

I came across an odd phenomena today while playing as France. I guess this is some kind of graphics anomaly and it might be generated by BTS or RFC rather than this mod. Suddenly an odd rectangular shadow rose out of one of the units and as you move the cursor it sort of shifts back and forth but rooted to the same spot. And it doesn't go away on succeeding turns. I've seen something like this before but not in this mod. Anybody got any thoughts on what this is? See saves and screenshots below.

Played as sweden

uhv did not work as I should of won
(Note played on march 22nd version0) and i think these problems were adressed

Imeadiately warred norse collapsed them and took all of their scandinavian posessions
Slowly gained in power, then warred moscow, took western russia (novgorad, narwa, a city farther inland, built vyborg
Vassilized moscow, then austria and bulgaria, then burgundy, warred germany and poland and conquered all of their baltic cities and denmark, collapsed poland starting major war. survived and collapsed france rode out game until i should of won UHV victory

In the first screenshot, it says A Coruna and I'm not sure whether it's supposed to be La or A Coruna.
In the second screenshot it should be lose not loose when describing the Bulgarian UHV.

IMO A Coruna is better.

IMO A Coruna is better.

I agree that it is the correct Spanish spelling. Though if you were born and bred there you would call it La Coruna in the native Galician dialect.

It's the other way around, in fact.

A Coruña is the galician (a language different from spanish, not a dialect!) spelling.

The city was later named La Coruña for a long time for "enforcing spanish" reasons, only a few years ago its official name was taken back to the original (galician) spelling, though retaining the ñ instead of nh (it's supposed to be the latter, as in portuguese).

It hurts my eyes to not see the Ñ or the accents (Córdoba, Cádiz) anywhere in spanish city names. I could take a look at the proper files and add it with its unicode format (which will be visible in any language version of BtS). For this test version or the next one.

You are right of course. Though I thought Galician was somehow related to Spanish.

@jediclemente: IIRC somebody had complained about the fact that the accent graves were not appearing on his computer, and I don't know of they can, technically, exist in civ. I also have kind of that problem in normal civ, where Evora appears as ?vora.

The crusades can be quite annoying. As Austria, a Crusade was called almost right after spawning. I (Leopold) was declared the holy Crusader, so my units spawned next to Jerusalem. Of course this killed my economy, and eventhough I was able to capture Jerusalem, I was unable to hold it.

The next crusade comes and I am once again proclaimed leader. So here we go again....

I think that crusaders shouldn't hurt your economy or stability this much especially since taking Jerusalem adds nothing positive, only negatives to economy and stability.

IMO, there should be SOME economic advantage to owning Jerusalem as a Catholic nation.

My advice. Next time a crusade is announced, NEVER vote for yourself.

I didn't vote for myself...either time.

I'm not sure where this should belong but which Python file contains the maintenance modified of the Power of the Endless Land? I'd like to adopt the -50 maintenance cost as a UP to Russia in the original RFC but I'm not sure what lines to copy and in which files.

Thanks in advance.

Well. If you are elected then don't take Jerusalem and lose as quick as you can. The Cusades event gives no benefit to the player whatsoever. Worse than colonies which at least give you some tradeable resources. Now if events and colonies were more like wonders and gave a points bonus (like 50pts. for each world wonder) or a gold bonus then they might be of some use other than being purely cosmetic as they are now.

But you surely agreed to participate in the Crusade.

Just say "no" when asked (before the vote!)...

That is obviously the answer.

During the second crusade, my forces performed guerrilla strikes plundering the countryside since Jerusalem had been fortified with better troops the second time around.

Greetings to RFCE community. Finally relaxed from RFC for a little bit and tried to run this modmod as Dutch (twice). 1580 Europe looks great. Real feeling of RFC and some of the best things from Medieval European Mod from Civ3. Both time Moscowans were not razed as I read in the other threads, but were very strong. First time Venice colonization/conquest was amazingly accurate. Second time Cordova was really strong. All the right countries had Protestantism/Catholisism/Orthodoxy/Islam. I wonder is this AI free choices assisted by the code, or heavily code driven accuracies...

Few remarks:

1) Loading time for Dutch (Emperor) took 1 hour 10 minutes (I have great CPU and RAM on my laptop). When I read 30 min for Dutch I thought it's gonna be like with RFC -- after cPickle thing all the Rhye's advertised times in reallity became too overestimated, AMerica rolls in in 25 or so minutes/ Why it takes 70 minutes with Dutch?

2) Why does the Bremen flips to me? I checked settlers map and Bremen was too far from my squares.

3) What historical city can I found as Dutch with my second Settler? I can get cities north and south from Amsterdam, but playing without Amsterdam just does not feel right.

4) Why does the Spain pleased with me? I was expecting to start at war with them...

5) Why does AI builds no colonial projects?

6) In my second game Damashq was razed by barbs, so Islam was 1% with strong Cordova. Don't they start with Islamic Missionary? That would make sense...

7) What is the role for Judaism? Is there any way to create Independent Khazar cities with Judaism? I even think Khazaria is a great choice for playable civ. It's the only country in world's history with Judaism (besides Israel) and was a major challenge for Kievians. Many think there were no Inquisition in Russia, but long after Khazaria fell Judaistic heresy had spread to Novgorod and religious prosecutors (hailed as Saints in Russian Orthodox church) did their best to eradicate that heresy.

8) Would it be logical to suffer some population loss when you get rid of the rival religion? And some unhappiness, maybe. Some spy bucks penalties. Feels too easy to get rid of the religion.

9) Please increase the cost for spies to influence civics and religion. Huge exploit, both in RFC and here, considered stability. One can spend 2*500 points to change twice the civics of rival empire and that empire collapses due to anarchy stability hits.

10) No one bothers to retake Jerusalem from Christians and the owner of Jerusalem gets no benefits. Wouldn't it be nice to make AP available to be built only in Jerusalem, so whoever controls it with his religion will get bonuce +2 hammers for it? I really think Jerusalem must be hard fought prize. Medieval European Mod had a special resource on that tile "Holy Land". I think it was a good idea.

RFCE is a lot heavier than RFC. More land, more cities, more everything (except civs).

I think you MUST build Amsterdam on the spot if you want to win the UHV. But dutch spawning area needs some rethinking nevertheless. My main problem is after 10 turns or so you'll be culturally bombed from the nearby civs. Their cities have been there for so much time (especially the french) you just can't do anything.

4) Why does the Spain pleased with me? I was expecting to start at war with them...

Spain has the Low Countries on their warmap, but that doesn't have any effect right now. It's difficult to make it different.

It's difficult for an Euro civ to take Jerusalem and not lose it to Arabs. But I've seen it happen some times. The goal should be to make more likely the crusades to triumph for 100 years or so, that is for euro civs to take cities (not just Jerusalem) there and lose them afterwards.

I think something like "golden age (only once) for taking Jerusalem between beginning and end of the crusades", and some bonus as long as you hold it can be coded.
