RFC Europe playtesting feedback thread

2) Why does the Bremen flips to me? I checked settlers map and Bremen was too far from my squares.

You have to look at the spawn reference. That says Bremen is in the spawn area. The settlermap is where the AI prefer to colonize.

But Bremen never been Dutch! When I play as Dutch I feel like giving city back to Germany. But one time it was too late -- they DOW on me....

The problem is that the Dutch spawn area needs to be pretty large to beat back the surrounding culture. As it is, people normally complain about the Dutch getting choked out culturally -- though I know one knob to turn to try and fix that.

Oh, as for Jerusalem and motivating the crusades. I think the intent was to have a wonder in Jerusalem (perhaps pre-built) which provides the luxury resource "Relic", which gives extra happiness with some religious buildings.

Just a couple of points following a recent game as Venice.

1. The first UHV condition is about right though it's too easy to get by 1500. Maybe 1400 would be better.
2. The second is too easy. I conquered Rhodes before 1400. 1600 is far too late.
3. Getting 8 luxury resources is too easy. It says by 1700 but I still had to wait until 1700 to get the UHV win. Should be 1500. In the meantime I built 3 colonies, 2 trading companies, Knights Templar and the Medici bank. None of which counts toward your score, so I wasn't at the top of the points table at the end.
4. Colonized S. Italy, Sicily, Greece and Malta but got pretty shaky at the end. Too much expansion hurts Venice. (Beyond the UHV goals of course).
5. Papal States still not working properly. The Pope captured Beograd and another indy early in the game. I thought they weren't supposed to expand or conquer anybody.
6. I'm tired of getting the message "We want to join the Papal States" every time I build a city or conquer an indy. What's that all about? And the Pope keeps asking me to gift him cities too.
7. I've tried everything to stop enemy infiltrators from trashing my improvements. Using spies in their cities or keeping spies in my city doesn't work. So how do I stop them?
8. Again this city name from RFC Rome keeps cropping up. (see screenshot). Can't we have something
a bit up to date and what's with the question mark?

Question mark is due to the accent graves. As told before, thinking of removing them.
EDIT: And Vibo Valentia, according to wikipedia, still holds a cute 40955 citizens.

Ah, but it was called the much more appropriate name "Monteleone" from 1235 until 1928. The return to "Vibo Valentia" was part of Mussolini's Roman revival ideas.

The site had been abandoned c. 400, and Monteleone was built in 1235. There was a Norman castle there for at least a century before Monteleone was founded, not sure what it was called.

So I finally started playing RFCE and guess what, it's actually playable. (Despite my reservations about my system and the large map) The Eastern Europe civs are all unstable and promptly collapsed (all the Russian civs and Hungary are indies), while Arabia respawned once.
I just have one question: does Calais count as a French city when playing as the English? (Or do I have to go to war finally with my dear friends the French?)

Welcome to RFCE, A.P. Hoped we'd hear from you eventually. Yes, the mod/mod is getting more playable now. Lots of tweaks and balance issues to resolve yet but the beta version isn't very far away. It's at this stage that playtesters of your experience would be really helpful.
To answer your questions. Yes the Eastern civs are pretty unstable due to getting the full impact of the Mongol hordes. This still needs to be balanced. Arabia doesn't usually collapse unless Jerusalem is captured in a crusade. And yes, Calais counts as an English city for the UHV requirement. IMO France will always DOW on you to get it back though, so prepare for war.

Let me get this straight: so Calais counts as an English city, i.e. I still have to conquer either Paris, Bordeaux or Brest? What about an independent Lyons--is that French?

According to the English UHV file in the reference folder, Calais counts as French.
BTW, I don't know if Lyons counts, since the UHV area doesn't include southern France...

What I mean is that for the UHV as England all you have to have is one city in France, any city in northern or western France. If you already have Calais then that's all you need. Nothing else.

For France, if another civ has a city anywhere within the territory of France then it can't win the UHV.
Check the reference file for the UHV maps like these. You'll get a much better idea from them.

Whew, thank God no Hundred Years' War for me (it's 1350 BTW). Thanks for the maps. I even founded a city on the Hebrides and was about to do so for the Shetlands (elephant there?!). Peace is good for business (I'm running merchant republic).
Edit:
Lol, a war walrus.

Nice new Orthodox buildings. But I think this is too modern styled.

Got it.

In other news, I finally got around learning how to compile the DLL. Yay. As my first (trivial) change, I increased the loading time estimates for Sweden to 45 minutes and the Dutch to 60 minutes. This is based on my system of course, but I think it better reflects the normally-lengthy wait for these civs.

I'm trying to play a game right now. I downloaded the file (2nd post on that other thread), gone through all that rapidshare crap, and now I have this folder with all these folders inside. What do I do??

Now you put that folder in your Beyond the Sword/Mods folder, so it will look like Beyond the Sword/Mods/RFCEurope. Find inside Public Maps folder, open it, double click on the only map there and you are playing :)

Trying Dutch again right now. 60 min must be more like 90 minutes, around turn 240 it gets like really slow, at least 2-3 minutes per turn. Too many 20+ sized cities, I guess. Do you guys import Pickles as cPickles? :) RFC got so fast after that...

It's still really bugs me to get all the NW German cities flipped to me. I could swear I saw an invisible culture wall in my game as Venezia. You know, the silver in Dalmatia... no matter how much my borders got wider to the west they never went beyond one tile to the east and I never got that silver. Byzantines finally claimed it. Why can't you guys do the same thing for Dutch? Just make 4 tiles around Amsterdam invincible for the foreign culture. Or make Dutch start with Rembrandt :)
Germany for Germans! :)
