RFC "Training" SG?

He means that the cow only gives 2 :health: only when you have supermarkets. Mind you, the deal was made not so much for the cow, but for the sake of peace between Germany and us until we can crush them. If it were not because of stability, I would never trade for resources outside my empire. For example, Khmer has so many plantations around, and trading plantation-based resources away is going to hurt it more (e.g. because you have additional bonuses with a plantation) even if you get something like wheat (because there's no space for farms).

I started playing and our UHV rewuires us to have the Black Sea (have), Balkans (i think we have) and Mesopatamia in 1700AD. Uh, Al-Kuwait controls some Mesopatamian tiles- won't that be a problem? We don't have the requirement greenlighted, so it looks like we need to cause Arabia to collapse.

No. We need Arabia NOT to collapse, as they are our vassal.

The UHV requirement is to control 3 cities in Mesopotamia, which we currently do. The requirement isn't checked until 1700 which is why it currently says not yet, but we will be just fine at that time (and will give us a triumphal arch). The wording requires holding cities in the specified areas IN 1700 not BEFORE 1700.

Quotey, have you checked the RFC Atlas at all for the exact areas required for UHVs? You can be sure for yourself if you take a look:

Something bad happened that I didn't know was going to happen. Here's part of my turnlog:

So Darius wants Masqat (Arab). I abstain. NO wins.

Ming Tai Tzu wants Patna (Independent). I vote now, because from my aborted attempt at the Khmer I remember the city has a wonder or two. NO wins.

I don't ask for any city because I know it'll cause some wars.

Well tht was a lovely learning experience!

Oh, there's a city behind my request box and my heart drops to my shoes.... Catherine wants Kilia (TURKISH). Oh god I can't say no to Cathy.... but I must. Oh god, I'm going to get declared on, aren't I...

I see Frederick wants a Turkish city too- oh go----

OH GOD. The goddamned Congress votes yes on giving the city up. Oy vey.

China, Persia, Scandanavia, Germany, France and Russia vote yes. Can we go for domination this game? Those civs really need to die. :P

Kilia's a decent city, but I don't want to give it up. Freddy wants Dirac and I can guess how that vote's going to go. So we face war with Europe other than Spain (Issy, I knew I could count on you), or losing 2 cities. :(

I hope you had enough spine to refuse. We need those cities for the UHV. We can fight them all even if they do declare war, but please oh please do not give away our cities.

Actually both cities can be THEORETICALLY given away and we can still win the UHV (since Tushpa counts as a Black Sea city and we have Yergogu. BUT I would rather face a possible war than losing face.

That is one reason why I never go for nationalism nowadays until America spawns, it's just too messy. Oh well...

Quotey, please go back and try to buy Russia or Germany (Russia is likely to bite if you offer them 75% of our 1 turn no-science purse), and if he accepts, he won't ask for our cities, and will vote for us against Germany. Germany is unlikely to accept anything less than 1000 gold which we don't have, since he's furious with us. Avoid war at all costs for now, because we cannot hold Pompeii.

I don't ask for any city because I know it'll cause some wars.

Actually, if the human player asks for a city, and the vote is yes, the AI HAS TO cede it without war, just like if another AI asked for that city. It's only the human player that has the option to say no to a vote and risk war.

Another solution out of this dilemma (because we are torn between war with Germany or war with Russia) is to declare war on France and Spain, which then ties us a little closer to Russia and Germany (who are at war with them), and maybe they'll ask for French cities instead. Spain unfortunately has some claim to Pompeii and Atina, so if Germany votes yes we may still have to fight them. Please try bribing Russia or another AI (the vote doesn't pass if the yes/no is equal).:please:

Hehe before this turnset everyone was like this game will be piece of cake. Situations can chance pretty quickly:crazyeye:

I'll keep what I did a mystery right now and ask another question! How do I start the golden age and switch civics without Anarchy? I tried switching civics before we pop the GP for a GA, but after we built the Olympic Park, and I've tried doing it after like AP's post said.

I have actually no idea

You can switch civics, and then hit the GA button when you select your GP which will nullify the anarchy (i.e. for that turn you will get production). I.e. you have to have 2 GP ready when you switch your civics.

Ah, I forgot to say that. Yes, you need to start your golden age with anarchy, then use your great people. You cannot be already in a golden age.

blzzrd (onhealth resorces): Was wondering why AP gave Germany dyes, getting cows in return. I personally don't like to give the AI happy resources.

AP (on the Congress debacle): call me over chivalrous, but i don't like to reload

Looking at the diplo screen, Azteca is called "Mesoamerican France"

Do the trade deals and get up extra GPT.

Pompeii was building a Christian Cathedral well below the happy cap. Was going to switch it but we're far on and nothing else it all tha worthwhile.

Bother, it seems my turn counter has gone. Oh well :(

Turn 0 (1610AD)

Looking at the diplo screen, Azteca is called "Mesoamerican France"

Do the trade deals and get up extra GPT.

Pompeii was building a Christian Cathedral well below the happy cap. Was going to switch it but we're far on and nothing else it all tha worthwhile.

Turn 1 (1615AD)

The settler in Hattusas is unfortified. Can't see any note on it so fortify it again.

A Frigate made ot make contact with the Inca presumably can't get to America the sane route because we can't get OB with Spain so I have to create the Suez (build a fort) to put the ship throgh so it can go all the way round Africa....

Then I notice we can cut through Tanis instead- awesome!

Also, does anyone here "Emily is a big girl" when clicking on Ottoman units?

Turn 2 (1620AD)

Lou-Lou asks us to declare on Mali. Nah.

GOD he is ugly.

Then the Moose wants us to convert to Islam. Christ, we just decided not to declare on you! Be thankful! Stop demanding things from me!

Vote NO on stopping the war against the HRE as I want to keep them in war.

A Turkish revolt takes place in Buto and the Ethiopians capture it. Not sure what happened first though.

Mesoamerican France converts to.... *drumroll* TAOISM!!!

Uh, what?

Turn 3 (1625AD)

Set research to Democracy.

A GS is born in Dirac. Send him to Luxor to build an Academy.

A random event gives us the choice of +100 culture in Sur or paying money to get 450 culture. I'll go for the cheap one.

Turn 4 (1630AD)

Catherine demands we declare on Spain... no.

East India Trading Company completes in Istanbul.

Notice that the earlier stop the fighting resolution must have pssed but a message pops up saying "Election Cancelled"

This is the second time there has been no who voted for what message.. does RFC avoid these?

Checking HRE on the diplo shows it is still at war with Spain... weird.

Move our Klagenfurt Spy to Rom- it's almost 1k esp points cheaper to steal a tech there.

Turn 5 (1635AD)

Uhh... an International Congress and I'm invited? I never get invited to anything! Hell yeah! This is the thing where you demand cities right? Well why not!

A great scientist is born in Luxor and I send him to Istanbul to await a million more GP for golden age #62 in a distant future)

Turn 6 (1640AD)

We're asked if we want to try to bribe civs to join our cause in the congress? Eh... touchy. Say no.

Oh, and our Spy in Rom was caught.

I hear Ethiopia half an hour before I see them. Yuck! We get Buto for free.

Turn 7 (1645AD)

YUCK! Everything happens at once- Congress, tech finishing, golden age starting.

I don't ask for any city because I know it'll cause some wars.

Well tht was a lovely learning experience!

A couple cities are voted over

Oh, there's a city behind my request box and my heart drops to my shoes.... Catherine wants Kilia (TURKISH). Oh god I can't say no to Cathy.... but I must. Oh god, I'm going to get declared on, aren't I...

So I had to give 2 cities up. No way.

The war horns last 2 minutes with all the declarations. Welp, I'll just post the foreign advisor map:

Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0002vr3.jpg

Oh, and to mark this event, our GA starts. I think about it and switch civics. 2 turns/16 isn't THAT bad. But we'll wait for Communism.

The lst piece of action in this turn is Ethiopia vassalising to China. One less guy to vassal Mali right?

Turn 8 (1650)

YUCK! A couple of german CAVALRY steal a worker and a Russain Caravel destroys a Galleon going on a round the world tour.

I go to Willem to see what he wants for Rep Parts. Nationalism, Democracy and Millitart Science. He's only a vassal; he can have them.

Defeat a German Galleon with our South American Frigate and meet a Trireme of the Incas. Not a vassal. Nice. Also they're Confucianist. Gift them Drama.

Destroy a small stack of Russian Cannon.

Turn 10 (1660AD)

I must have miseed logging a turn or two.

Well, the Spy is still in Rom. We still need about 1k esp points to seteal Rifling. I sugest after Communism, we rush the Great Spy over to Germany and get the esp boost, and turn up the slider for a turn or two.

The real force of the Europeans is yet to come. Good luck.

And the world is thrown into chaos...
This can be officaly counted as WW1
Oh wait.. dont say it... im next ?
Lucky us that we are not fighting two front war. Our only theatre of war will be europe.
Oh good its blizzrd before me :)

As Louis XV (or his mistress Madame de Pompadour) purportedly said,
Après moi, le déluge. :suicide:

I used to disregard the opportunity for bribes, reasoning that I can just defend if people declare war on me. I've since learned that the 600 gold you spend on a neutral/cautious AI may be the best gold you will ever spend during that game, because I usually either get a city from it, or I have prevented war that would have slowed down my research, which means a slower domination in the end.

Discretion is the better part of valour (and chivalry too).

I did spend part of my turns just transporting our troops from the east to the west, but I think Pompeii is destined to fall to the Germans, rather than us flipping Rome peacefully.
