Well, it's interesting to point out that post-riflemen/pre-tank era is as unbalanced as in vanilla game in regard to use of artillery.
You can't do anything without it, and with it your rule and AI sucks.
Errrr... In my Germany game I conquered Russia just fine in that eras and I only ever owned two artilleries which only got to fire a couple times each. =|

Actually you are wrong. I am now playing my third game as America (I keep losing, so I keep on trying;-)), and I am always able to trade horses, typically from Germany, before I get my own Mustangs. And with horses I can build knights and also Lancers.
Really? I was sure the american civs were supposed to require mustangs for their mounted units. You ARE playing on the Earth map, right?

And you took down Russian Rifleman/Infantry/Machine Gunners with just Lancers and Cavarly???
I can't imagine amount of casualties.
(exempt if you had some armies involved)

hi barak - the timing on the tech tree is not perfect, and never will be. you will find that if you are an active explorer/trader, you can accelerate the global tech pace through active trading with the AIs and reach industrial age quite early.

On the other hand if you turtle and build towards a cultural victory, your lack of trade catalysing will stagnate the world and the most advanced AI will be in the middle ages into the late 20th century.

generally speaking, most games balance pretty close to historical accuracy, with the average being near spot on. :)

EW

Well, I am the tech leader by 2 techs over the French and English, so not really intersted in selling them (or anyone else) too many techs.

I am wondering if I will EVER play regular C3C again!

Has anyone had successful games using the random map?

Well, historically speaking that is how horses returned to the new world. If you can get horses from Europe or Asia through trade, then the American civs should be able to build the mounted units.

Well, the Russians were defending with Riflemen and Partisans and IIRC I started the war off using alot of Zeppelins and attacking with Trench Inf... But now that I think about it, I may have only started really conquering once I started producing two Panzers per turn. =X
Anyway, it's realistic that there will be a stalemate around the WWI era that is only broken by the arrival of Tanks.
Artillery is another issue. Maybe the only way to fix the imbalance caused by humans using artillery is to remove artillery from the game altogether... =\

-> standard cavalry and lancers aren't available to American civs. They have their own flavour anim, which requires mustangs. I don't see how you can build them with traded horses. Those horses will make you only build horsemen/knights/h.archers.

-> The high defense rating of machinegunners reflects the WWI times: huge amounts of casualties on the offensive side, until tanks were developed.

VFM-> I read your mail. If you get the holy war error message it means that: 1)you're playing RoC, not RoCX and you haven't updated Conquests to 1.22

Highlander->Thank you very much, I didn't know that thing about the lakes. (in the list for the next patch).
About the carriers -> I'll move them to flight.

Dont even joke about taking out artillery. If you do, remove bombers too. All forms of imbalance, or none.

Playing as the Russians, managed to create real world empire! Sweet! Its 1812, I am industrializing and working toward communism.

Found Feudalism to be incredibly useful for my mega horde, and Absolute monarchy even MORE useful.

Right now, producing conscription/worker pumps in the Siberian "Wasteland" and using the vast resources of Mongolia to cement my overwhelming lead over the rest of the world. Found the Cossack almost useless against the mongolians, but vital for my Finland campaign

The Lancer ended up being an excellent (grand) strategic defender, even though it was a tactical attacker (road advantage), while the cossack made a great attacker all around.

This got me thinking about the horse archer/knight relationship. Why is the Horse Archer not granted the same recognition of its speed and manouverability as is the Lancer? All it gets is the parthian shot.

As the horse archer should be a viable alternative to the knight (considering a tradition of superiority over all forms of heavy cavalry that stretches from the Parthians to the Mongols) it should be granted the blitz ability.

I am also of the opinion that it should be more geographically restricted... but that is another story.

You are problably right then. I am certain that I built knights using horses. Now that I think of it, I may not have build my Lancers with the german horses, but with my Mustangs instead.

I hope I'm in the right forum.
I Have conquest v1.22. I receive this error message each time I try to play Rhye's of Civiliaztion V2.68.big. The message is load error file not found "art\units\ancien settler\\\\\\art\units\settler\settdefault.flc"

I have tried re-down loading and installing the verison. No luck. I'm doing something wrong or I'm missing a patch. Any help would be great.
Thanks,

Hi again cylc,

The correct place to post this would be in the Rhye's of Civilization, but don't worry about it. If a moderator doesn't merge this post with that thread in the next day or so, you can post it there. The RoC maker know the mod better than us. :)

I've found confirms of artificial lakes in Ukraine and Russia.

for now, here are the changes in v1.23:

- Removed some build never flags for the random map
- Removed "build never science" flag for Portugal
- Jaguar Warrior cost decreased to 15
- Eagle Warrior and Clubman now both cost 35
- Fixed AI Strategies flags for Clubman, Elephant Archer, Musketeer, Swiss Mercenary, TOW Infantry, Spearman (5), Firelancer, Cossack
- Turtle Ship now can bombard but can't load units
- Mobile Tower can be loaded and can't load
- Carrier moved to Flight
- The Slave Trade now expires with Mass Production
- Fixed crash occurring when building a carrier. Eastern civs now have the carrier with the standard animation
- Oil appears with Combustion in random maps
- Deleted artificial lakes of Kahovka, Cimljanks, Rybinks, Kremenchug
- Edited Azov sea and Ladoga lake borders
- Added Marsh near Caspius and Azov sea
- Added one river in Peru
- Tuned German (+) strength

Thanks again to those who are helping me. I AM using 1.22 now, when I first downloaded I was on 1.00. I was having problems and someone pointed out I needed to update to 1.22. I did update to 1.22 and I still am having the same problems. If I try and start up the game 2.68 big I get a message about not having holy war file.
When trying to start up from 1.21 Igot a message about not having statue of liberty file.
Based on the files I have saved I DO have RoCX_v121 ( not RoC).
I also have the files for RoC_268.

ANy suggestions?

How strange! Those two errors (holy war and statue of liberty) happen when attempting to start RoC or RoCX with non-patched Conquests.
I really haven't got anything more to add....I should come to your home and see what's wrong myself ;)

what can I say....
tell us what subfolders you have in \scenarios\
you should have Rhye's of Civilization, Rhye's of Civilization X, Rhye's of Civilization XF.
Inside Rhye's of Civilization\text and Rhye's of Civilization X\text you'll find pediaicons. They contain holy war and SoL entries.

what more, let me think....
is your Civ3C original or a backup copy? In the latter case, be sure to put the appropriate crack for 1.22 after having patched. (in my mind there could be the eventuality of you putting the crack for 1.0 over the patched 1.22conquests)

Are your Civ and Conquests the English version?

@VFM: Check if you have the following files in your folders. If you don't there's a small chance that they were corrupted in your downloads - if so I'll post the relevant files for you:

Holy War
Scenarios/Rhye's of Civilization/art/Civilopedia/Icons/Buildings/arabmedicine2.pcx
Scenarios/Rhye's of Civilization/art/Civilopedia/Icons/Buildings/arabmedicine2sm.pcx
Scenarios/Rhye's of Civilization/art/Wonder Splash/jihad.pcx

Statue of Liberty
Scenarios/Rhye's of Civilization X/art/Civilopedia/Icons/Buildings/libertylarge.pcx
Scenarios/Rhye's of Civilization X/art/Civilopedia/Icons/Buildings/libertysmall.pcx
Scenarios/Rhye's of Civilization X/art/Wonder Splash/Liberty.pcx

It's not definite that this will fix it for you.

@Cylc: You will be helped in this thread. Just give as much information as possible.

Thanks Procast:

I just made a real quick search for the files you suggested, I did not find either. But I admit I did not spend much time looking. Could you post the files anyway, if it is not too much trouble.

Thanks. I still need to spend a little more time with Rhye's suggests but again a real quick search did not help any.

THanks again to all helping.

Ok on further review. I DID find all ( I think all of) those files you suggested Procrast.
All those files appear to be there, in the correct locations ( at least as far as I can tell).

Rhye Yes, I have those files. Yes, I have Rhyes of Civilization, and also R of C x, and R of C xf.

Oh well, perhaps I should delete it all and start over?? But since I am on Dial up. That is a LONG SLOW process to download everything again.
