I know you're not going to see it, but this kind of attitude is exactly why big corporations get away with so much crap in gaming. Why do you feel the need to defend 2k games? It's not Firaxis that's raking in the money from your purchase. The devs get paid a salary, they don't own the franchise. Your money goes to 2k.
And who do you think makes money from sales on Mac? Aspyr? I highly doubt Firaxis sold them the rights to Civ and now they are doing whatever the hell they want with it. Unless someone has evidence that suggests otherwise, assume that Aspyr is being paid by Firaxis to do a port because Firaxis/2k thinks it will be cheaper than doing it in-house. If a port is low quality, or late, that is always because money was saved somewhere along the line.
You won't ever see me defending 2K games. I think their communication policy is absolutely idiotic, apologies for the language. But the porting is
also not 2K's responsibility. It's
Aspyr's responsibility. The only way in which you can hold 2K or Firaxis responsible is by saying they should've asked someone else to port the game, they are not in
any other way responsible. So don't withhold your money from 2K/Firaxis because of porting issues. I could see "they don't allow Firaxis to communicate" as a reason to withhold money from 2K, but that's something totally different.
So you're saying the starting bug introduced with the fall patch is not a thing?
I wasn't referring to that bug in any way. Neither were you, actually, in your post. You're mentioning a carpet of doom, which, as far as I am aware, is in no way related to the starting position bug. But to expand on your points from your previous post, I have
never come across a continent blocked by the units from two city states to such a degree that Settlers would even be significantly slowed down - let alone blocked.
As for resource distribution, that's exactly
the point. Resources are scarce, and you might have to fight in order to get access to them. That's why they're called "strategic resources". So if there's only a niter resource at the other side of the continent, all that happened is that Firaxis' goal of instignating conflict through strategic resources has just been accomplished. If you don't like it, sure, but it's a fully intentional part of the game, so don't ***** about it.
I also do not recognize the "having to trade relics in exchange for strategic resources". 8-10 gold per turn is all they typically ask me. Of course, if you don't make enough gold for that, they'll come with other stuff, but then you probably just need to build an additional Commercial Hub + trader. Don't be surprised you can't trade with other civilizations if your economy is bad, after all.
The only thing which is indeed questionable is not requiring resources for unique units, but once again I understand Firaxis' design decision that it absolutely sucks if you can't build your unique unit if you don't have access to a resource.
(oh, regarding the starting position bug, I realize this isn't what you want to hear, but there's plenty of mods that fix it; just use them as band-aid)
