Rise from Erebus 1.30 Bug Thread

Well, thanks for all answers, of course i made google check and looked here in forum, the main problem for me is that im not sure which keywords should i use to get what i need, im just a gamer not programmer ;P

as for more details of my comp i have currently I5 with 4GB (my win 32 xp sees only 3,46) with radeon 5870
XP SP3 with virtual memory set to 5314

Still i never had any problem before with A4800 and 2GB in any version of civ or ffh.

Playing on a duel maps is not an option for me, but i will try reducing graphic details, maybe it will help a bit.

Solution, not from civ forums , but the same problem. You can probably add more than the 3gb mentioned in the solution if your ram/vm exceeds it. Oh and if this doesn't work, blows up your computer , kills you , makes your wife have another mans baby, or anything else , i take no responsibility.

Using this solution involves editing system settings so watch out what you're doing.

Explanation:
If you're running a 32bit operating system and get the crashes while saving or otherwise dumping a lot of memory usage then it is most likely because of the fact that 32bit operating systems only provide an address space of 2GB to every user process running. It means that whenever memory usage for 1257 goes sky rocket it most likely exceeds 2GB and then you get the crash. The way to avoid crashing is configuring your OS to give more address space to process.

Windows XP
(click to show/hide)

* Menu Start -> Run, type sysdm.cpl and press ENTER
* a window should open, go to tab Advanced -> Startup and Recovery Settings -> Edit
* at this point you're editing your boot.ini file. Don't mess things up.
Look for the line with your operating system mentioned and add "/3GB /USERVA=2990" without quotes. Should look like this:
Quote

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /3GB /USERVA=2990

just add only the "/3GB /USER...", don't erase or add anything else
* save changes and reboot

Windows Vista / Windows 7
(click to show/hide)

*
o if you are running as an Administrator go to Menu Start -> Run, type cmd and press ENTER
o if not go to Menu Start -> Programs -> Accessories, press RMB on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
* in Command Prompt type "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 2990" without quotes and press ENTER
* reboot

EDIT:
It's so easy to forget about obvious things and just cut them out of the equation ;) Thanks Tina.
This solution probably won't work if your RAM and Virtual Memory summary is lower than 3gb. You can't do much about RAM but you can change the values of VM.

Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (or at least I think that the route is the same in each of these systems)
(click to show/hide)

* Menu Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced
* Performance -> Settings
* Advanced tab -> Change
The tricky part is setting the values right. Microsoft suggests (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308417 , Step 2) to set the minimal value as 1.5x of your RAM and maximal value as 3x your RAM. There's plenty of topics on the web with performances results and such revolving around this subject so... Google.
* Save, reboot

To revert the process (if something doesn't work):
Windows XP
(click to show/hide)

* Menu Start -> Run, type sysdm.cpl and press ENTER
* a window should open, go to tab Advanced -> Startup and Recovery Settings -> Edit
* at this point you're editing your boot.ini file. Don't mess things up.
Look for the line with your operating system mentioned and erase "/3GB /USERVA=2990". Should look something like this:
Quote

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

erase only "/3GB /USERV...", don't delete anything else
* save changes and reboot

* in Command Prompt type "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 2048" without quotes and press ENTER
* reboot

Wow, thanks, i will try it :)

Meanwhile i sought that changing graphics settings from high to medium helped somewhat, im getting much less crashes.

Archons civ seems to be bugged, i tried them twice recently and they crash much often than other races.

btw. in Jotnar civilopedia description is written that their cities can work only 1 tile around, while in fact i see they have 3 tiles range.

The Jotnar have been changed dramatically in Rife, rather then many small cities (1 radius, max 10 population, reduced number of cities maintenance from traditions) they now have few large, but slow growing cities (3 radius, 3 food/population, significantly increased number of cities maintenance, almost no distance from capital maintenance) and their civilopedia entries are outdated. They are also supposed to be reworked at some point of time.

Somethings wrong with Barnaxus of the lurpichips. His ranking in strength is suppose to effect the other golems but it does not.

It's meant to be how many combat promotions he takes, as in Combat I, Combat II, and such. Each one gives golems an Empower promotion (Empower I, Empower II, etc.). I'm sure I've seen that working, are you sure it's bugged?

Thanks moon i looked again and seen it. I was looking for strength promotion just the name has changed. hehe thanks hey, how do you post your game. i was in the middle of game but i can not get the runs of kilmore religion. I have only golems with no other units..

The religion might be disabled; There are hidden game options that do that. If you switch between mods, gameoptions can get messed up. Run a play now game to clear stored options. ;)

I thought it was possible to reset hidden options so that this problem didn't occur?

Cant you make an option on the launcher that will reset it automatically?

It should be as simple as memorizing the default file in the code for the launcher and writing over the .ini file with this new code.

Hell, it should be trivially easy to do.

(On a side note, it would be cool if we could get the code for the launcher. There are so many cool things that could be done with it.)

cool

BTW, what language/platform was it written in? I assume it was either C++/C#/Java?

OMG, my language of choice.

You can expect some wild things once that code comes out. If the creator allows it.

I've noticed barbarians sometimes pulling a Houdini and vanishing, this is the first instance of it occurring since I /delurked.

Zoomed out into globe view to show it's not in my territory or anywhere on the edge of.

Also, didn't even notice it healing when it should have died until I posted, wonder if that has anything to do with it as it is rather odd.
