Usually I don't care about the death of celebrities. To be honest, I am not terribly concerned in this case either.
But on the other hand - this is the first Hollywood star I grew up with and liked and who is now dead. And that also amplifies my own sense of mortality. I will miss him a bit.

There are rumors that it was suicide. Robin Williams apparently had a history of drug abuse and depression. Which is interesting, because I find that this dark thread of his personality shows in his performance. I feel like there was always a notion of melancholia and cynicism in the way he acted. That IMO really came out in the movie Insomnia, where he plays a sad and violent man. The acting felt convincing, but still strangely close to his comedy acting. I also find it a depressing idea to be marked as the funny one. Didn't Jim Carry also went through some rough spots? So I have heard. Another comedy actor who is renowned for his distinct acting style. Do I detect a pattern here?

Anyway - not much left to do than bow my head to the grim reaper.
