Rod1- Something Enjoyable

I'm interested. It sort of sounds similar to SGOTM14, without its' special rules. What victory are you looking for? What settings for the landform? A Pangaea might be kind of cool. What level do you want to play at?

We cant go above Monarch, because of this crowded format, the Extra units will finish us.

Settings for Landform are not decided yet.

Of course its an Pangaea!

I was thinking about allowing only Conquest for us, with other vics on.

Sounds reasoable. Who do you want to play as? Conquest victories tend to favor certain tribes, usually with good traits and fast/powerful UU's, but they are also the most played tribes. What do you want, the well-travelled road or the abandoned dirt path?

20k takes work, luck and concentration.

At what level?

And a near perfect starting spot, with food, shields, commerce, a seacoast to get the Colossus and a river to allow growth.

That would be nice, but see your own comment below :).

Almost better as an 1CC or 5CC.

So many people seem to think about it. But, 1. you ideally want to keep your research up as much as possible to get access to more wonders and for more SGLs and 2. the more cities (at your normal spacing) you have, the more military you have... the more chances for an MGL. There's only one wonder better in the 20k game really for your 20k city than The Heroic Epic (this doesn't mean I get The Heroic Epic much myself)... The Statue of Zeus. Or, at least, The Heroic Epic comes out rather high on the wonder list. Granted, it's like an OCC or 5CC in many ways, but I think it's better not to associate them too closely.

I lacked several of those, and ended up finishing in 1951.

Who'd you play as? On what type of map/settings?

I am leaning towards China or Mayans as our civ.

We cant use the Iroq or any other civ with a resource dependant UU, Because Chances will be that we dont have it

lurker's comment: You know, you are coming very close to committing the major social ill of our time. You are becoming very, very boring.

To be honest, I tend to skip your posts altogether but you really do need to get a life that includes more than a 20k. :please:

That post seems like it belongs in another thread, as it has absolutely nothing in common with our current discussion. It does match another thread I posted in and the quoted material was written by me, so it must have been entered in response to that but ended up here......quite weird.

Lurker:

I would sure like to see quotes include the poster they are quoting. It is not always obvious as to where the quote came from. I figured this was a cut and paste gone awry. I managed to do that once or twice. Upon reading, I realized I was in the wrong place.

I try to put the posters name in and then "" the lines. This is needed in the quick post thread as some times a post or two will have been entered, before you can get yours up.

Anyway I have messed up many post, every way you can, including bad information. I keep telling myself to not visit the site when it is late, but noooo.

Actually, you have posted those lines in this thread before you played your turnset :lol:

I need to ask the team a question. Do we Secure a Beachhead Right now? WE have everything in place and Urfa is our Target.

lurker's comment: I like the idea for the new game and will buy the popcorn as chief lurker there

I say yes, get the beachhead secured and start bringing the troops over. Theres nothing they have that can beat Infantry on a regular basis. We may eventually face a Sipahi rush, but unless they bring more than 4 or 5, a couple Infantries should hold.

I think that 25 Galleons is too many. Most will not have anything to do. Ten or twelve Galleons should be enough.

If we can fill up a Galleon or two each turn with new units and send them across the ocean we will be doing very good. Once the beachhead is established, all the Galleons will do is ferry troops across. It will probably take one or two turns for each boat to sail from harbor to harbor.

I just hate to have boats just sit around because they are empty. I feel stupid for building them and then not using them.

If we have rails with our beachhead, our new units will get into action that much sooner. So we may need a few boatloads of workers to build us railroads.

True, the 15 or so galleons we have are more than adequate, even if we opened a second front. Also, keep building settlers, I think we should only keep a few enemy towns, raze and replace where possible, even with a minimal flip risk, losing troops to flips always is sucky. Our culture is minimal, so even at Regent level, flips can happen.

Drop science down to 0%, we still learn The Corporation in 1, +389 gpt.

Then I plan to shut down getting smarter and focus on stocking up on gold for rushng units.

~~~~~
I had to pause the game here to get some sleep.
In the homeland, all the easy stuff in the first phase of the Geek Expansion has been railed. Now we are moving into unroaded terrain, with forests to chop and irrigation to add. This will slow down the terraforming efforts. I am not going to road hills or mountains, but I will clear marshes and jungles.
Down south, I am content to just let the AI come to us and die. Almost all the roads are cut to our borders. Once the AI comes close, we have artillery to pulverize them and then Guerillas and Infantry to kill them. We won't get thrown off the continent but we don't have enough units, not yet anyway, to hold what we have and expand. In a few turns, yes, but not at the moment. So, our science farms will do our research, and we will use our cash to rush units.
I found some sleeping Beserks in Old Korea. I woke those up and they are in transit right now. They will land at Rusaddir next turn and get shipped across.
I wish we could move our Beserk Armies in Galleons, but the Armies are too big. We need Transports to move them.
Then we start thinning out the Orange SoD.
We redline them all, and a Bab Longbow and assorted Indian units inside our borders.
Eight Elite attacks (3 Beserk, 4 Guerillas and 1 Infantry) but no MGL (47 of 47).
Nine more attacks by Beserks and Infantry result in 4 promotions to Elite (56 of 56).
We cut two roads from Karichi to our borders, two more still remain.
We focus on the 7 unit SoD and reduce it by six units, gaining two or three more promotions to Elite (62 of 62).
We find an eInfantry and send him to work on the 3 unit SoD, which is on the mountain 2S of Haugersund.
We win and promote to *InfantryOne* and Erik Bloodaxe II (63 of 63). He goes to Beachhand to form an Army.
Utica is cranky, so we hire another geek. This city is size 11, grows in 3 turns and has three geeks.
NW Beachhead
Spoiler :
T1700_NWBeachhead.jpg
This area is now empty of enemy cities. We can probably ignore it, except for barbarians.
SE Beachhead
Spoiler :
T1700_SEBeachhead.jpg
The focus here is on Indus (11), the 3rd capital of India. It has at least 6 units in it. Around it we have two armies (Erik Bloodaxe II and Sons of Odin I, both very healthy) and seven other attacking units nearby. We have about 12 Artillery in Dye-De-Dye and 16 more fortified near the coast. Indus should be gone next turn.
The units around SE Nowhere are mainly defensive, in case India or Babylon try to sneak up on us. Mostly those units are there to protect the workers and slaves.
South Central Beachhead
Spoiler :
T1700_SCentralBeachhead.jpg
This is where I think most of the action will be next turn. We are cranking out a lot of Infantry; enough to form a solid line. That is what the Blue Line is; just a line of Infantry moving south one tile at a time, killing whatever it finds. We need roads behind these guys, so that we can move our wounded to a Barracks city to heal.
Bengal should fall next turn. It has one unit inside and two Armies outside (1st Infantry and Mighty Mjollnir) and two Elites looking to promote.
The units in the Pink circle need to let a wounded Infantry heal, then they can move on Benghazi (?), in the fog to the west. These three won't be enough on their own to take the city; we might want to send on of the armies around Bengal to help them after Bengal has been removed.
Old Maya
Spoiler :
T1700_OldMaya.jpg
This is the last part of our continent to be geeked up. We have three jungle tiles left and two stacks of 24 slaves that can remove a roaded jungle tile in one turn. One of the jungle tiles will be cleared this IBT; I set the 9 slaves to clearing the jungle instead of roading it. In the two remaiing jungle tiles are 9 slaves that just roaded those jungle tiles this turn. Once the jungles are cleared we will have plenty of slaves to road, rail and irrigate the few tiles that remain to be improved. Then, if we want to, they could start roading the remaining hills and mountains in case we discover a new resource.
The four Blue dots are suggested city sites in this area.
We need a lot of workers down south.
Once we get everything irrigated, we need to send workers south. Workers, not slaves. Leave the slaves on this continent for pollution clean up. But send the workers south.
I have been keeping 4 galleons at each end of our shipping line. We don't dock in Hooray!, so when a boat is loaded it sails 4S into Beachhead, unloads, and then sails 1N. When needed, I sent an equal number of Galleons north from this spot to be ready to be loaded next turn. The most units I sent across on one turn was 10 units.
Due to the constant irrigating and railing of our land I found I needed to visit each city to see if they had maxed out on population growth and could hire any geeks. This got easier to do as the turns progressed. When possible, I let the cities grow as fast as they could to size 6 and then hired geeks.
I thought I might get through this turnset without losing a single battle, but that dream died on the last turn. But all the artillery really made that run of 87 straight victories possible.
We have seven luxuries connected; we lack Spices.
This game has at most 50 more turns to go. The limiting factor is that Infantry only has 1MP. The end is in sight.
003 Settler
068 Workers
Looks good, Great Work :goodjob: .
Overseer is up. And I think we could finish it in 2 turnsets, 1 turnset to clear land for domination and 1 Turnset to fill the land.
I feel that my Ship Chain was better, I landed a few more units I think
