Role Play Challenge: Happy Hatty

Love these challenges!

If you cannot deny a trade (other than those with Alphabet), you may get offered Drama/Lit/Music in trades and find yourself shutting down science very quickly.

It'd be great if you had horses seeing as you have not much else. Will be nice to keep you safe with barbs. And that begs the question as to whether Hatty may attack/raze/keep barb cities...

No man, not cool. Why would such a Happy Lady be bothering with those nasty and unpleasant Barb. Unless of course it's a matter of survival.

So as with AIs, if it's a keep city of strategic point Hatty can attack.

As far as being offered Lit/Music/Drama, didn't think that one through but hell we'll roll with it!

Turn 209 1410BC
Spoiler :

Mining>Pottery>Myst>Masonry>Poly>Mono*>AH>Writing>BW

It took 209 turns to get the Mids, ouch this speed is so slow. I have 2 cities, mids, a religion and 4 warriors and 2 workers, gold is hooked up. The happy cap is about 10.

Because Shaka is here and I cannot refuse a trade, it seems doomed. No horses found either. I have the Holy Mountain quest.

*Judaism in stone city, OR

HH probably wouldn't build such an obtrusive object as a Great Wall, would she?

well ... it holds the dirty wannabe's out of her domain so :p

I think getting a Great Spy in this game is pretty useless.

well ... you can always save him for an GA at some point or settle him under rep for the 6 beakers

If getting a Great Spy is useless (as in this game) building the great wall may actually hurt you more than it helps. Better off going for stonehenge or pyramids instead.

Looks like an interesting game. I'll be lurking.

Considering your inability to tech in the mid-game and later, would setting up a religious economy to generate heaps of gold to use for tech trades in addition to brokering the ones you get from others be a viable option?

Wait, so can you still conduct tech trades that do not effect Alphabet? This will be some craaazy tech brokering this game. ( I LIKE IT!!!)

Happy Hatty: Part 1

An interesting start that already has me saying, Golly gee!

We settle in place

HatA0000.jpg

Rice, floodplains, and hills.

Our techpath went: AH/pottery/hunting/archery/Mining/BW/IW

Our second hut we pop a Barbarian. NOT cool dudes, not cool at all.

HatA0001.jpg

And soon we meet a fellow leader

HatA0002.jpg

WHAT a nice man, so polite and friendly. I am sure he would be a good friend to Egypt!

After AH we find

HatA0003.jpg

Sorry folks, it does not look like any of Mad's RPCs will be showcasing any War Chariots!

We get that health random event.

HatA0004.jpg

Hatty says no way, stinky stuff that just does not smell right.

We meet another leader

HatA0005.jpg

So dapper, and such a sweetheart!

After laying down some cottages for some extra commerce we start on a settler

HatA0006.jpg

And after BW

HatA0007.jpg

OK, we have access to copper although in poor places. All RPC kidding aside I prefer to have some more pop with old Shaka arround. Thus we go for IW early.

We drop city #2 very close to cottage spam a bit more. Two VERY nice culture producing cities when we up the slider.

HatA0008.jpg

And after teching IW we see the map as well as where the other leaders are

OK folks, we have an interesting choice here. DO we ramp up military and take Shaka out of the game as a self-defense action, or do we try and befriend him hoping he attacks Willem early.

Also where do we settle next??? Agressively towards Shaka or hold back and keep the desert between us?

Ain't life just full of exceitement!

Shaka must die, we've seen him last time and I think he holds the record for the most RPCs obliterated. You have Iron right south of Thebes. Settle 1 SE or you could just connect the iron right now and rush him.

Shaka will eventually attack. But he might attack Willem, not you. Willem always has a low unit count. If you can spread your religion to him, you will have a chance for peace. I would build a stack of axes anyway in case he does invade. You must at least expand towards Shaka, dont give him any more land. I think cultural and religion are your only two possible victory conditions and Shaka spoils those.

No declaring war. Keep a stack of axes on hand for D, but I'm sure Happy Hatty thinks that Shaka will be nice.

Expand up the river, then claim the juicy jungle before either of the others do. Looking right now like you might just be on a continent of 3, so if you take off Shaka, I don't know how much Willem will trade with you in isolation (I don't remember the rules for that).

I vote for not attacking Shaka. Sure he has wrecked some RPCs, but he's just misunderstood. He isn't impossible to get to friendly, +4 from religion, +4 from fair trade, +3-5 from peace/open borders/resource trade. Just give into his first demand and you should be fine as long as you don't get a faux pas event or something. Your going to destroy him in a later RPC, so there's no reason happy Hatty has to break a rule this early to do it.

MISUNDERSTOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you are right!

imo theres not anything to win by settleing aggesive towards Shaka ... other than the land all the way over at him which would be overly expensive to maintain, its not that interesting ... i'd rather expand on the north/south axis, and getting a workboat out to explore that island you can see ...

as of more specific city placement i would suggest placing a city 3e1n of thebes and 6n, and 3w3s ... explore more to the north before i'd suggest any more city placements

Hello mad! Nice to see another RPC comin along!
I would just like to make a notice here that

SKIPPING LITERATURE/DRAMA/MUSIC DOES NOT HAVE ANY SERIOUS EFFECTS ON THE TECH TREE thus you could keep on teching normally up to any point you wish :-D

I know it's lame but I HAD to mention that!

On the other hand, skipping Alphabet make Happy Hatty miss : Printing Press (all replaceable parts and there after, so no cavalry/riflres or steam power), DEMOCRACY and Railroads (no PP, no Steam Power), making your last obtainable techs being : Constitution, Military Science, Military Tradition, Steel, Liberalism, Astronomy and Corporation.

So I am just pointing out a situation here...

AP cheese looks REALLY good here..

Now, as for the game itself : RPC-wise, you should not DOW Shaka, it would not be nice of you. I say expand to North and South, up to the point where you have borders with Willy while building military at the same time. Go to Willy and make good friends (play cards, have some wine, sleep over, you know the drill..) so when Shaka attacks Willy (that will happen if you own willy in power), Willy will ask you to help him and you cannot say a plain "nay" to your good friend then, can you?
