Role Play Challenge: Happy Hatty

UnHappy Hatty: The End

we perhaps I did not play out the dismal end, but I have seen enough of these games to know what's coming.

But let's talk about how we got here!

we start by getting a friendly random event

HatD0000.jpg

You bet, help out our big friend!

We then met the otehr continent which looks rather interesting

HatD0004.jpg

Gentlemen, it's a privaledge and an honor to meet you. I am certainly glod there is alot of Ocean between us!

And techs

HatD0005.jpg

So we manage to get Fuedalism off SB

HatD0007.jpg

And find out Hyuna is vassaled to SB and Fred Vassaled to Cyrus with Cyrus and SB hating each other. So a diplomatic plan opens up here.

We started culture bombing our GAs as we are limited in those culture multipliers. Soon the culture situation

HatD0009.jpg

OK moving along. We decided to build a few more cities to get those 2 catherdrals in each city. We also got some flipped cities

HatD0013.jpg

And then the world erupts into war!

HatD0015.jpg

Come on guys, can't we all get along!

Soon Will capitulates to Shaka and Cy/SB get peace.

So I soon realize things are going much to slowly as I will be seeing Mechanical Infantry soon, so we run some scientists from our secondary cities to get philosophy and start building wealth to up the culture slider.

Soon

HatD0018.jpg

Ends up costing us 2 extra gold over OR. Not bad.

Eventually Will's new capital culture flips to us!

HatD0019.jpg

How many times does a capital culture flip!

So now we are crusing along in culture and a little science

HatD0020.jpg

Getting teh cathedrals built, and looking to get a few more culture bombs.

Shaka was now friendly and just teched Military Tradition, so

HatD0021.jpg

This is great. Those extra diplo points, perhaps the other continent will fear Shaka's great Macemen and not send their rifles towards us!

But............

I saved here and if anyone else wants to play the war out go ahead. Hatty is not pleased and refuses to play anymore. However, we did last until 1644 AD which is a hell of alot longer than I thought we would.

So I think this cements Shaka as the first guest of honor on the LAST RPC.

RPC recap

Rules:
These were very tough rules considering the neighbors. Agressive Shaka and REXing Will.

1) No DOW nor refused deals made things tough. Normally Shaka would go early especially since he started his war-machine a little later than usual.

2) Tech limitation. Too severe here. I should have opened it up to liberalism rather than the three culture techs!

Why we lost

1) SHAKA. Seriously, I should have reloaded the game once he popped up!

With all that said, we actually were doing well and heading towards a culture win.

So last three RPCs will have very limited rules but more restrictive victory conditions as well as entertaining setups!

The next is DeGaulles league on a LArge Arhceopolego map. We will be restricted to a 9-12 city core and MUST spawn off as many colonies as possible. Warfare is completely at our discression (had enough being nice with this game). Victory is ONLY the UN Diplo vote.

Ah, yes, more of that oh-so-intelligently-implemented BTS diplo. Still, I'd like to see an explanation of why Shaka dropped from friendly to cautious and DOWed, other than "because he could."

I relaoded the turn before the DOW to see whay also. Apparently the "friendly random event" -6 diplo dropped to -5 and dropped Shaka to only Pleased. Still, that is brutally fast.

What!? No! That means one less RPC already! I demand another game!

On a side note, harsh luck. Shaka's ruined yet another game of yours. Many you can save the game the turn before the DOW in WB and open it in a scenario so that you can turn on the option that makes random events new every time you load?

Sometimes AI will DoW no matter the relationship. It happend several times to me. Mostly when it doesn't have room to expand. I remember an LHC failure, where Willem declared on me, friendly and without WHEOOHRN. I dont know why, maybe someone else could explain.

Nah, where's the challenge in that ?

Shame on her, She's african, he's african , whats the problem ???

I thought the human player could never be a vassal.

Its in my dim and distant past, but I'm sure I played as a vassal once ( I may have broken free from it later, but I certainly didn't know how to do that at the time, it just happened - I did win the game though, I remember the smug feeling :) ) Its not like i try to do this on purpose and its only happened once.

You can't be a vassal to an AI, you just cannot.

Uhh, well maybe I'm mis-remembering, I'll keep an eye out for this, time and brains don't always mix well. Vassal AI's can win though, I've seen HC culture win as a vassal (or was that just a glitch in the matrix too :( ?)

AIs can win space, diplo (AP or UN) or culture as vassals.

wow, didnt think shaka can dow when he has a DP with you...interesting...sucks too =x

It looks like I was wrong about Shaka. He isn't misunderstood, he's just a jerk.

That said, would it save you if you went back to the turn before he declared and begged 10 gold off of him? I see from the tech screen that fair trade bonus isn't an option, but maybe you could get another point from the defensive pact or a resource trade. Or maybe he would even decide to go after someone on the other continent.

You did luck out with the other continent civs though. Neither of the masters declare at pleased, so if you can get Shaka off of you it should be game over.

The above evokes the question: Why not? Why is capitulation or voluntary vassalization not a valid diplo option for humans? You can still win, by space or culture or by breaking free, and the restrictions etc. are well defined.

Does anybody know/understand this?

I guess the mechanic could be abused : you would voluntarily vassal to a powerful AI (e.g. Shaka) and then cruise to victory as no other rival would defy your master, and not even your master could declare war on you !

The AI would have to be much smarter about when to accept vassals than it is now to be a valid option.

Doesn't this hold for almost all game options?

"The AI would have to be much smarter about [war] to make [adding warfare to civ] a valid option"

research, espionage, permament alliances, tech trading, ...
