Role Play Challenge: Suleiman the Magnificent and the Battle of the Philosphers

SM- Lib- Take Communism

I considered this until I realized Liberalism is a prerequisite for Communism:crazyeye:

Right now I am leaning towards chemistry then steel via liberalism.

The other path I am considering is SM, physics via lib for airships, free GS to bulb part of Biology, then manually tech artillery skipping steel. Can this be done or do we need steel first to unlock artillery?

He he, history repeats itself. Russia and the Ottomans go head to head again!

Anyway, I think you could get artys without steel though I'm not sure.

According to the XML, Physics and Steel and AndPrereqs and Rifling is an OrPrereq. Looking at the rest of the system, that means that you need all of the AndPrereqs and one of the OrPrereqs, or all three of them for Artillery.

I considered this until I realized Liberalism is a prerequisite for Communism:crazyeye:

It still works, just tech Scientific Method first and once you get Liberalism it'll open up Communism for you.

I think I'd still prefer the Steel slingshot though, seems more effective for your unstoppable war machine.

Artillery requires physics, steel and rifling. You aren't gonig to getting any special slingshots to it.

So, you have Liberalism on the same turn and Communism is now avaliable for you. I am sure it works.

You can indeed take communism with lib assuming you have the other pre-reqs first. The question is if that's optimal. It will certainly help his economy though, and his military is advanced enough to end the game so if he's leaning on workshops/watermills for hammers he might as well.

Of course, advice from me regarding tech is usually iffy, as I like warring so much that I'll go monty style tech-poor in some games. I did so much damage and caused so much global stupidity in my shadow that not only did I not win liberalism, *nobody* did...nobody even had a beaker in it by that late date....

Still, IMO SP will give him both a tech and production edge with that many cities, so I don't see any reason he should avoid it or try for arty vs longbows or something. Using Jans is good for the RPC angle anyway, no?

Edit: Wiped out civs or vassals are not emancipation threats (you can just force vassals out of it), so you'll be fine w/o it ;).

Magnificent Suleiman and the Battle of teh Philosophers: Part V

Suleiman continues to prove to the world who's the grandest leader, and who is the absolute best Bulbs**tter!

First the techpath: Chemistry/Scientific Method/Liberalism (finished)/Biology/ start Guilds. Yep, went toward Physics from Liberalism. Sure steel is overpowering but I thought warring following the Ottoman UU as part of the RPC added a nice flavor. And what a UU it is!

The early part of this segment was rather dull. Suffice to say we teched to scientific method while spamming out Janissaries/Trebs/ and a few Jumbos. After SM

SulE0000.jpg

2 sources of oil, but WAY too close to Peter's lands!

Once we tech SM we finished liberalism and chose

SulE0002.jpg

Airships and the option to more advanced techs! We used the free GS to BulbS**T about half of physics.

And before starting what is inevitable, we got this random event

SulE0003.jpg

A free GA in a city! Sure we are not supposed to settle GPs in this RPC, but a seaside summer cottage for our grand leader with a permanant GA sounds too tempting!.

We then roll out the Jans! Two stacks

SulE0004.jpg

SulE0005.jpg

And dial up the Backstabber for a little Turkish justice!

SulE0006.jpg

Given enough troops I always find splitting my stacks in half very strong, the AI simply does not handle this well. Combined with the fact that I got Al to join the dogpile for free, things like this

SulE0007.jpg

And this

SulE0009.jpg

And this

SulE0010.jpg

Were common place.

In addition alot of warring broke out

SulE0011.jpg

Oh, and there was this

SulE0012.jpg

OK, where were we???

Right, we were dicussing this

SulE0013.jpg

At this point Peter was willing to discuss

SulE0014.jpg

OK, we saved here with a million dollar question. Does Suleiman the Magnificent want vassals??? I say he does and we take on Peter. We then take a little time to reposition our troops and go after Al conquering the entire continent. With Astronomy perhaps we can subdue the world with just Janissaries!

A view of victory conditions.

SulE0015.jpg

we certainly need more land than just the Russians and the Greeks to get domination.

Tech's

SulE0016.jpg

Well once we tech Guilds we have a monopoly on, well almost everything!

Diplomacy

SulE0017.jpg

The Greeks love us! Suleiman is pleased and I think it's time he grant Al and the Greeks access to the Ottoman empire. Of course that may require some more warfare, but these are sacrifices Suleiman must make!

So there we have it. What is amounting to a classic overpowered game! I say we tech guilds then Communism for State Property. We ignore Democracy and keep slavery. We also have yet to accept a religious civic which I think we shall keep.

So just how far can out Janissaries carry us in this game!!!

Gogo power janissaries!!!!

From historical point of view- no. Ottomans don't have and don't want vassals. They want to own.

From RPC point of view- no as well. Suleiman is magnificant, he doesn't want to share power. He is the king.

From game point of view- yes. It will make the game easier and you'll win faster.

It looks like you'll have a lot of problems from cultural pressure if you vassalise Peter now. I'd take a few more cities so you have a block of territory without any of his cities.

You only get cultural pressure if your tiles are farther away from your cities than theirs are though... Haven't had a good look at the map however.

You still get "yearn to rejoin motherland" unhappiness but get +1 happy everywhere which can often make up for it.

I mean the chances of revolt from cultural pressure from your vassals. It is very annoying to have to keep a huge garrison (like 10 janissairies) in several cities you want to keep from revolting

Does that happen with vassals (culture revolts I mean)? I can't remember :(

I thought that got patched in one of the Warlords patches... I am a drunk though so don't believe a word I say ;)

You no longer have culture battles over squares in the BFC, but if the vassals' (hidden) culture reaches the city itself, it can still cause constant revolts without a large garrison. The city can't flip though if you got it by conquest.

I don't really care if you vassalize Peter at this point or not, it really doesn't make much of a difference. Definitely take out those few internal Russian cities first though, relegate him to a corner. Though how much land do you think this continent has? If you fully conquer it all you may have enough for domination without an overseas invasion...

Magnificent Suleiman and the Battle of the Philosophers: Part VI

A short round tonight, finishing our war and straightening out the empire. Also we did NOT get to BulbS**t this segment.

I decided to go with Sem's comments about what Suleiman thinks. He is definitely the King and accepts no challenge to his power. NO VASSALS.

We then proceeded to exterminate the Russian menace.

SulF0000.jpg

A key Russian city here. I should comment that we had ALOT of war weariness, mostly because Peter had the Cursed SoZ

We made a nice trade with Al

SulF0002.jpg

Breaking our monolopy on Education, but that's OK. We still have monolopies on techs like gunpowder and Printing Press.

Speaking of tech: we went Guilds/banking/Military Tradition.

Also note that the entire world is at each other's throats

SulF0003.jpg

Perhaps a big reason for the slow tech rate.

We finally more on Moscow

SulF0004.jpg

Which has the SoZ! We are using exclusively Jans and Trebs with a few Jumbos and maces as support.

SulF0005.jpg

Peter was toast at this point. I will not bore you with too many screenshots, but perhaps this

SulF0007.jpg

Last Russian city! We acquired the entire Russians empire here including several wonders. That is three Ais eliminated by our Magnificent leader.

We upped our science slider to 50%, whipped out several building, and saved.

Victory conditions

SulF0008.jpg

We very likely need intercontinental invasions to get to domination. Not a problem considering we also have a monolopy on Astronomy.

A view of the major continent.

SulF0011.jpg

Well that's it for now. I think at this point it just depends how long it will take me to get a large enough Jan/Treb force to take out Al. And we shall soon have Curassairs.

W8, does Justinian only have 3 cities?

Anyways you're doing pretty well in techs. At 40% and still major tech leader!

Yeah, he's a colony. Colonies really mess up the vassaling mechanics, which annoyed me but at least prompted me to actually conquer stuff for a change. Looks like mad has designs on the takes too.

You didn't research economy yet??? Free bulbsh***ting. Come on, all together now, detour, detour, detour. Forget about military tradition. We want Economy, communism, facism!!!!! Burn them Great people. Harharhar.

Sidenote: This game almost looks too easy for you ;)
