In these 3 years, iroquois and turkish envoys started to debate again about trades. Turkish Ale has stopped doing business, so Turkey couldn't supply us with their beer, and they lost their bananas too, which canceled our two trades:

1- Iron for Coffee, Banana, Alcohol (Turkish Ale), Pig

2- Horse, Fish, Glassware for Shrimp, Pig, Alcohol (Turkish Ale), Stone, Rice, 1/turn

But after the envoys worked together again, we got an even better trade agreement with them:

Naval Victory

The english have fallen to our trap, and we could sink another of their strong Brigantines.

The battle was tough, but our marvelous Onondaga (Caravel) did a great job sinking the english ship with the help of several other ships, mostly Mongolian Caravels bought under Tadodaho I. But a second Brigantine stood there and couldn't be destroyed. We hope it stays a little longer near our fleet so we can crush it next time.

Basra celebrates!
The arabian city of Basra celebrates with a big festival our King's coronation day. This is a huge development to the region, which was in chaos and rebellion some years ago. This has proved once more the great management of King Tadodaho II. This has only increased the ties between Arabia and Iroquoia, and arabian clans begun forming. They still can't vote for anything at their home, but they may travel to Iroquoia and vote there. But the first talks of a council in Arabia reached Tadodaho's ears and he may have some plans for it.

With this show of support, a clan of great wealth was created in Kufah: Clan ibn Muhammad al-Kufah. Still, this clan can't do much in Arabia, so its destiny is still a mystery to all of us. Will it fight for the representation of Arabia in the Iroquois Kingdom directly from Arabia? Or will they move to Iroquoia and try to win their purpose next to the Government?

The Senate
With great promises for the future, 2 senatorial seats were replaced in the years passed. Clan Die Ritter von Teutoburger Wald, with the support of the majority of Hellenic faithful, got the seat of Hamburg, and Clan 독수리 (Eagle) coming from the smaller village of Daejon gathered the majority of Seoul's district voters, getting Seoul's seat.

The Senate is now gathered to give the King advice on choosing where to put the finances of the government. As of now 80% of the income goes to technological discoveries made by scientists, engineers, artists and the like. 20% goes to the treasury. Scientists from the kingdom are trying to gather foreign knowledge and develop them in Iroquoia for us to master what has been named Algebra.

The Senate understands its most important duty is to advise the King in the things that are less tied and need more attention like where to place our research capability. The balance between research, culture, espionage and treasury is a much harder topic and should be avoided until a strong need arises.

But baseballpie may give his opinion as well (taken into consideration there are 22 senate chairs, and only two real players on them, elections wouldn't actually happen at all, just a debate). If we end needing a simulated vote, I may let you give your vote for another senator (I have 20 NPCs for that).

“Ahote was but a child when his parents had taken him on a long and difficult journey. Along the way, his mother had succumbed to illness and fatigue. A few years after arriving at their destination, a place which came to be known as Tionontati, his father died, crushed by a wrongly felled tree in the surrounding forests.
Ahote, now a scrawny teenager, took to roaming the dusty streets begging for food, and stealing what little he could from market stalls. After a severe beating from an enraged fruit vendor, he collapsed on Tionontati's beach, sure to never wake up again.
But wake up he did, some days later, in the hut of a local fisherman, who had found and healed him. Ahote asked his name, but the fisherman never spoke. Instead, he simply smiled and pointed at his neck, where an old scar snaked its way from chin to torso.
When Ahote was finally able to stand on his own legs again, the fisherman showed him his small boat, the nets, and pointed at the oars. No words were needed.”

Thus begins the traditional tale of Ahote, the First Water Herder, fabled founder of the Water Herder Clan of Tionontati.
The story then tells about Ahote's growing skill in fishing, and the discovery of a particular area of the Roieza Sano Sea which was particularly crowded with marine life. With the wealth from such bountiful fishing, Ahote was able to buy a new ship, then some slaves, more ships, and so on, until the point when he could comfortably marry a merchant's daughter and establish his own clan.
Nowadays, the Water Herders are a numerous clan, with all members involved in some part of the fishing and trading business, still firmly in the clan's control.

They have recently risen to notoriety in Tionontati and beyond for their ability to avoid encounters with English ships, thus being able to keep Tionontati fed with seafood.

Great choice Noyyau. It's nice you provided ages and the patron and matron. It's not necessary for the clans to do that, but it's recommended.

I'll still come up with some rules about aging and dying, but one of the already decided features is you may choose when your family members die, except in the case death comes to then by turn passing. You may choose how they die too, but when it involves other players, truth may become assumption, and even heated debates may arise (this will be fun ).

By now the only thing certain is the Life Expectancy, which strongly influence the life spam of your patrons and matrons. Currently it's at 54 y.o.

So, as senate chairs are related to death, if you have a patron with his age it's easier to keep track as to when you may have to face election again. While we don't have people competing for the same seat, it's not a great deal actually.

Senate Discussion

Going to Edinburgh Castle for their dual monthly meetings, the senator from Tionontati fell ill on the road near Oneida and died. This opened up election time in Tionontati.

Not a surprise, the Clan of the Water Herders got the seat and Wemilat Water Herder is now the newest senator in the council.

In the next meeting everyone went there to discuss the plans for what to research after Algebra is understood.



Lobbying for Gunpowder

The Die Ritter von Teutoburger Wald Senator, from Hamburg, strongly supported Gunpowder as the next subject to research. Seeing how our two stolen Bombards are effective in the field, this is a path most already have an idea where it'll lead to.

Senators from all over the country supported this idea, still not sure what to decide but giving a good advantage to this path. Mohawk, Narragansett, Namp'o, Saratoga, Seneca, Susquehannock, Mingo and Owego senators were the strongest supporters (some think the influence of the guilds acting on those cities may have something to do with this decision).

Powhaten strongly supported Oil Painting, saying we will win this war with the fleet we are buying from other Anagonia nations. This not only strengthens our position against England, as weakens the rest of the Anagonian countries which will have less chances of joining England in the war. With art, we may get more money and make our culture stronger, which can only add to our situation. The Senator from Berlin supported this idea, but seems divided between culture and war. Seeing war closer, people from Berlin know things are not so calm as Powhaten subjects think. Strong speeches with "Powhaten has never seen war, just wandering boats" have made this idea a hard one to accept.

P'yongyang still thinks Printing Press is the right path to go: "If we are to win, we must keep increasing our research capacity. With paper already, we may finally use the printer, which foreigners are already using to enhance their economy. With this, researching the path to military victory will be much faster and safer". Some Senators regarded this as something to be discussed.

The Senators from Onondaga, Cayuga, Caughnawaga, Tuscarora, Erie, Nowadaga, Gewauga, Seoul and Tionontati have yet to give their opinions. They are still discussing with both senators and their people, to see which way is better.

For now, Gunpowder is the option with most followers.

We must advance in science and navy, as that is the path to the greatest success!

The Senator for Tionontati, Wemilat Water Herder, makes known the opinion of his constituency:
-finish research on Algebra
-research Astronomy and Gunpowder, in whichever order. Our great Nation needs both advances
-after those, seek our way to the ability to replicate English ships, evaluate the path to Naval Cannon. Buying naval vessels from friendly nations has served us greatly, but we cannot delude ourselves into believing this alone might save us.

We do not currently have monetary problems, and the direct threat to our very survival is much more important than entertainment and art. So Oil Painting is something unnecessary, which we might consider at a more peaceful time.

The Printing Press might be an useful advance, but securing our own shores takes priority.

The Senator, a practical man of business, also asks his esteemed peers for opinions on the possibility of trading knowledge, alongside ships, with our Anagonian neighbors.

The Arabian clan Ibn Muhammad Al-Kufah, led by the clan's patriarch, Abdul Aziz (Age 48), while having no official say in the matter, strongly encourages his brother Iroquoians to support the research of Astronomy, citing the possibility to limit the naval dominance of England.

A Senate divided... or not!
In another meeting, Senators begun discussing if Astronomy was a better idea, as it was surely the path for a better navy.

The Eagle Senator from Seoul was the one who started the discussion. If the idea was to remove the english navy from our seas, we couldn't rely solely on these old ships. We needed to best the english fleet.

The undecided Senators started regarding this idea as something that had a great truth on it. Fate may be willing this they say.

In a letter from Arabia, a prominent clan from Kufah, close to the Governor of Arabia, clan Ibn Muhammad Al-Kufah, knowing about the difficult decision the Senate is taking, defended Astronomy as well. Abdul Aziz, their patron, remembered once again the need to wipe out our waters from english ships.


But to the surprise of all, the newest Senator, Wemilat Water Herder, gave a speech in which he could finally get together both ideas into a single strategy: Better ships not only needed the knowledge of Astronomy, but as well as Gunpowder, because as we could see english ships had big iron barrels that spit big boulders which are the doom of our ships. And if we were to win england, we had to advance even more in navy, as surely they already had better technology then brute gunpowder.

Now the decision is resting in which to choose first Gunpowder or Astronomy.

The envoy news

Our envoys and ambassadors, answering the call of the Royal Senate, could gather these interesting deals and information.


To get to english ships we need the technology of Metallurgy, a tech which requires Gunpowder. They need Astronomy (EDIT: Optics) and Metallurgy, both the Sloop and Brigantine.


The failing in the quest for a technology exchange: The Principality of Thebes and the Republic of Holy Rome could only be asking for a public humiliation of their leaders, with deals in which we gave them several technologies, all our treasure, most of our income for the next 22 turns, several of our resources (surplus or not) also for 22 turns and some trebuchets.

The unworthy worries of new Senators

So after talking to the ambassador in Hattusas, finally the Senate has a report. The words of the ambassador were long and tedious, but modern painters could bring this info to a well made art piece of the situation that's used on history books nowadays:

The Duchy of Hattusas is a vassal state of Byzantine. Long ago, before Byzantium decided to wage war against Hattusas, the Principality of Hattusas and the Kingdom of Iroquois were close friends. Several times had our Kingdom declared war against the Kingdom of Khmer with Hattusas and Byzantium. But then the Byzantines decided to annex the territory, and we couldn't afford to lose a strong friend to protect a doomed one. Hattusas regrets this since then.

The technology of Stirrup is something everyone knows already. Ignoring new world natives, maybe only Hattusas still don't have it. To give it to then is something not worrying at all. They lack everything, even sovereignty, so there is no risk in trading this with them.


So will the Senate advise the King to accept these tradings? (seeing as nobody thought otherwise, if no one comes here saying NO, I'll pass this to the King in less then a hour). You must be a Senator to deny this, so if anyone else wants to give his opinion you may try to convince the Senators otherwise (and if you want to become a Senator just create your clan and tell me from which city you want to come from. If you choose the same city as any other player senator, you'll have to dispute elections or leave for another city to get another Senatorial seat).

And about the technology, the second round is waiting for you to defend which to be researched first: Gunpowder or Astronomy. You may check them on the previous post I talked about the techs. The main difference is vs . Anyways, there are still 3 turns for this choice to be effective (Tadodaho won't stop doing Algebra until it's done).

Elum Eten: Named after the Gulf south of it, Elum Eten is the last nation to join the Iroquois Kingdom. It was colonized in 756AD after the consolidation of Gojoseon and the Pusan Duchy.

Elum Eten was the base of operations in the taking of uMgungundlovu, northeast of it. Now it's well defended by both Pusan and Turkey against enemies across the Anagonian Desert. It sticks with Mohawk, Roieza Sano and Gasosofn Eerl in the combat against religion spreading.

The senate sent word to the King about foreign deals, showing him their attention to public matters of state. This pleased the King. All deals seemed a gain to the Kingdom. More ships to resist the english navy, and 2 extra siege weapons. All deals were conducted and succeded.

But the Holy Romans got yet another reason to be hated: Their Caravel came damaged, and he charged us as if it was new. They will pay for this one day.


1452 AD - 1455 AD: More Ground... or Water?



The King got Married - 1453 AD

King Tadodaho and his wife Halona enjoying the traditional forest walk after their marriage, wearing traditional clothing.

It's a pleasure to announce that, at the age of 30, our beloved King Tadodaho II got married. The Ceremony was impressive. Many people from the realms came to see the wedding. There was a huge group of subjects outside the Palace. As faithless people, the Iroquois held weddings as ceremonies concerning fate, tradition and customs.

His wife, Halona(23yo), was chosen from the Water Herder Clan for reasons of the King himself. Now Halona, former Water Herder, is now Matron Queen of the Iroquois, and former Matron Queen Skawennahawi (50yo) gained the honorific title of Matron Mother, for her last days on our planet.


Foreign news

In the same year of the Royal Wedding, Duke Sejong VII has passed away. Not like our Kingdom, the Duchy of Pusan is a direct hereditary monarchy, so as the death ceremony took place, soon followed the Coronation day. No Iroquois official comitee has been sent to the ceremony, with excuses of War. However, many Gojoseon subjects went through to Pusan territory to follow it. There is still a great feeling of brotherhood between the peoples of Gojoseon and Pusan.

Duke Sejong VIII took his father's place. He was the oldest son of Sejong VII, and as the custom of the duchy dictate, he was to be the next Duke. As soon as the Coronation ceremony was over, the new Duke went to Mohawk to swear his Oath of Fealty to the King on Mohawk, like his father did twice, once when he was made Duke, and then when Tadodaho II became King. The vows shall be redone when any of both rulers die.


The Kingdom of Khmer was overthrown recently. Not many news arrived from this episode yet, and most think this is yet another family trying to rule with people's approval just to make itself the new Royal Family when everything gets under control. Many times has this happened in Holy Rome, Egypt, Babylonia and Khmer in the past.

Military Report

Roieza Sano remains putting holes in English Ships, and to our joy a Caravel built in the docks of Tionontati destroyed an english Brigantine in the coast. This Caravel was bought by Iroquois authorities from Water Herder's company. After this successful battle, the ship was renamed Wemilat, in honor to the newest Senator. The subjects of Tionontati and Tuscarora (for the Brigantine was in the Sea of Roieza Sano, between both cities) cheered when they saw the more developed ship sinking to it's forgetfulness. Similarly, south of P'yongyang, the remaining Brigantine which survived our ambush couldn't survive again. It took a Mongolian Caravel with it, but then our Onondaga destroyed it like it had done to the one before.

Arabia's northern cities are under control, but the southern ones are still giving some problems. This is still not allowing our Southern army to march to the barbarian cities nearby.

The situation in the Duchy of Pusan is of no enemies in sights for more then a decade. The Kingdom of Iroquois and the Assyrian Republic are officialy at war, but no attempts to attack us by them have been done in a long time. With the new troops being trained, Wang Desert Tiger is considering to march to the Desert and attack Assyrian cities.

We caught a spy in Tionontati. He died under interrogation without telling us where he came from. By the circumstances all authorities atribute it to the english. He couldn't cause any harm to us.

Celebration in Basra
Basra is still giving big celebrations every year in the special days of our King (his coronation, birth and marriage). It seems the marriage filled even more the spirit of Basran citizens. The strange of it all is the revolutionary spirit strengthening, but specialists guess the people have nothing against the King, but against local authorities.

Envoys
Following the suggestion of the Senate, the King already sent envoys again to see if there was something new to be traded.

In Anagonia nothing could be traded.

But an envoy was sent to make a deal to the French natives. The deal consisted in teaching them the knowledge of Music, and in return they only had to supply us with 200 gold + 7/turn. Next report we may already know if they agreed. This envoy was also responsible to find in any northern native people map charts and knowledge.

Espionage

Our intelligence network reports that in some decades two monitored civilizations will finish their discoveries on Oil Painting and Gunpowder. This new has come to me this morning, and I'm writing to you now as I know this is top priority issue on the dealings of the state. It's decided then: We will fund the researchers to discover the secrets of Astronomy, and I'll put myself the necessary funds from our taxes for the intelligence network to be able to supply us with the other knowledges. I hope you understand the nature of any other information regarding the report is strictly confidential, so don't bother asking me anything else about it. Thank you senators, for without you maybe we could let pass this opportunity and keep behind England in this war.

Both dealings with the new world were sucessful, now we got a better map chart and more gold from good trade relations. It was even better when we heard the French Lord was pleased with our deal, feeling extremely grateful for what we have provided him.
