Ron Paul suspends active campaigning

Texas Rep. Ron Paul said on Monday he will no longer be actively campaigning in the GOP presidential primaries but won't formally suspend his campaign. Instead, the libertarian candidate's organization will continue to accumulate delegates to send to the Republican National Convention.

"Our campaign will continue to work in the state convention process. We will continue to take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future," said a statement from Paul that was distributed by his campaign. "Moving forward, however, we will no longer spend resources campaigning in primaries in states that have not yet voted. Doing so with any hope of success would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have."

Rest of story HERE

So that's unofficially the fat lady singing. No one will fund Paul's continued efforts. But Paul is not, so far, endorsing Romney.

You could have just said misogynistic bigot, but I know you want people to find your opinion important. Dr. Ron Paul is a wealthy and famous man. You're a forum member. :)

In other news: Slow news day

Unless someone can pull off a palace coup at the convention. Which isn't at all likely.

This should of happened when it became a mathematical impossibility to secure the required number of delegates. I don't think he has achieved much since that happened either, what a waste of money..

I expect he believes he has influenced the terms of the debate. Which can sometimes have effects in the long run.

I've heard that he's aiming for a "delegate win". We'll see what happens. The convention might be disgusted enough with Romney that they'll swing for Paul instead.

He's still having fun trying to take over as many state conventions as he can. Of course Romney will still be nominated, but it's amusing to watch Paul exploit goofy caucus rules to grab more delegates than he'd otherwise get.

The real question is: when he finally does concede to reality, will he endorse Romney, Gary Johnson, or nobody? If he endorses Johnson, that could push Johnson's poll numbers up by quite a bit, maybe even enough to get into a debate. Not sure what the odds of this are though.

This Republican race to win the nomination kind of seems to me like that kind of situation where you have your enemy (Democrats) right where you want them. They're weak. You move in for the kill. It should be so easy, but you pull a move like the Tortoise and the Hare, or maybe like baseball...you got a ball coming straight in to your sweet spot, right down the middle...and.......Mitt Romney...SWING AND A MISS! GG Republicans.
